Lady Victoria Turner is a highly desirable woman coming from a wealthy family, who is not interested in getting married, despite her father’s wishes. She is too shy for this society and she would much rather live her days out alone, writing her stories of a better world. Yet, when a mysterious American gentleman throws a masquerade ball, everything is about to change forever. Will Lady Victoria open her lonely heart to this enigmatic man? Will she trust him with her love?
Thomas Jones has arrived in England without any clue of the social rules that dictate London life. He has secrets of his own, but he is about to find out that running halfway across the world does not mean that he can escape them… Soon, his world turns upside down when he meets Victoria, a woman who immediately catches his attention with her uniqueness. As Thomas’s secrets appear from the dark, will he be able to silence the echoes of his past and earn Victoria’s trust?
Even though Thomas is the only man who is not interested in her wealth, Victoria keeps pushing him away, incapable of trusting his feelings. How far will he go to win her heart? Is Victoria ready to turn a new page in her life and give a chance to love? Is Thomas the man she should trust?
I have to admit that I was disappointed with this novel. I love novels set in Regency England but this one (if it was indeed set around that era - it’s hard to determine) just wasn’t my cup of tea & didn’t seem very English to me - predominantly in the style of speech/terminology/grammar. I guess being that the author is American this may be why - in my opinion the style just didn’t match what I am used to reading (& enjoying) for this type of novel & so for me, sadly, it just became annoying. The plot itself was good - it had a lot of potential but other than the above reasons for annoyance it just seemed too rushed. E.g. the romance between the two main characters pretty much happened overnight. Love at first sight etc. & although the heroine was unsure for a long while, they basically became committed to each other after only seeing each other 3 or 4 times - only one of those being in an extended social setting & any personal ones being very brief. There was hence also very little “substantial” dialogue between the characters. It was mainly internal thoughts/musings. Not to make this a rant session but I found myself getting quite frustrated as the story continued and just wanted it to end as it just seemed to be repeating itself.
Incidentally, I got my copy free via BookFunnel (which had a lot of typos in it). Glad I didn’t have to pay for it but from what I can gather this is one of the first novels from this author. Hopefully the others will be better.
This book could have been better. The narration was a bit off in places and there were parts that the narrator sounded like a robot. There were parts that the errors in the book were read out. I was trying to adjust the speed but it was either two fast or not fast enough. This is a quick listen but the narration by Victoria Labs was not great.
The story is about Lady Victoria Turner. It is set in the Regency Era. In those times etiquette and moving in the right circles really counted. Women were educated to enable them to be good wives and mothers.
In these times is was good to show off wealth and parents would send their daughters to society balls in order for them to meet a suitor.
Victoria is different, none of that life appeals to her. She would love nothing more than to live alone and work on her favourite passion that is writing. But, she is the youngest daughter and her parents want to see her married off because Reputation is everything.
In comes the handsome Thomas Jones who is hosting the party to meet other people. Victoria only agrees to go to this party as her parents want her to try to meet a husband. If it comes to nothing this time she can have her wish to leave to start her life alone in the country. Victoria just has to endure this party.
Thomas Jones is from a different way of life. He has no idea of social the social rules. He has come to England to start afresh then he meets Victoria…..
What a lovely gentle book, thoroughly enjoyed reading it. It's not the usual rake and heroine story. Our heroine has a brain and wants to use it and our hero is happy to support her.
The plot itself is interesting. However, the glaring historical errors ruined this novella for me. The time period was impossible to determine. The title indicates the book is Regency, so what king is one of the characters talking about? Regency is a favorite genre of mine. The author needs to do more research.
This is an entrancing romance — Regency all the way. Victoria just wants to be left alone to write her stories. Her parents want her married off. Thomas, who is American and has no clue about English manners and Society rules, just wants to spend time with Victoria. Dancing through this sticky web is even trickier than it sounds!
Honestly this book was so similar to bridgerton. It was good but it was just a little too similar. It ended cute but it could’ve been a longer book. I feel like there was detail that was only surface level. There was so much potential to dig into parts and give more back story but it just skimmed it. Overall I don’t think I’d recommend but it wasn’t horrible.
How do I review? A "sweet" novella, if you want a nice little tale and can ignore historical context. Some will like it.
I wanted to like the book, but couldn't. It was a sweet little story, which I usually enjoy, but it would have worked better as a contemporary, or maybe 20th century novel. A period piece should be researched better. Example: Duke is not used like Mr. It's either Duke of place or just the place. Not Duke family name. I couldn't get beyond that. Problems with the ex, too.
My review today is on the Regency Romance, Dancing With a Lady. This book was sent to to read, I was not required to review it but it is a great read so I will review it. This story is well written and entertaining. I know you will enjoy it.
Lady Victoria Turner comes from a rich family. Her sisters have made good marriages and now it is time for her to do so too. She has no desire to marry or become a mother. Her passion is to write. She would like to just be left alone to write her stories. She must attend a masquerade ball. Dressed and ready to attend she overhears her parents talking about what to do with her if she didn't meet someone tonight. They have decided to get her a little cottage in the country. Victoria is upset when she first hears about the embarrassment she has caused, then she realizes that is just what she wants. She goes to the ball and hides in a corner but a man sees her across the room, their eyes meet, and he comes straight to her. She is drawn to the man but doesn't want to give up her dream of the country.
Thomas Jones is a wealthy American. He has come to England to take over family property but he wants a new start. He's unaware of the rules of society but he is determined to marry the Lady Victoria. All he has to do is to convince her. She seems to want no part of him. Rejection is unfamiliar to him. Can he win her over?
A journey of two souls; each dealing with secrets of their own. Although attracted to each other can they get over their own agendas and find a way to come together. God has a plan for these two, a good plan and not for evil. God has a plan for you too. Give Him control over your life and watch Him move in your life.
Good -Great. Lady Victoria is in no hurry to get married. She doesn't wan to foll "the rules". She wants to do her "own thing". She wants to live in the country in peace and quiet with her hobbies.
Thomas, the mysterious rich guy , that came to London to give a Ball invites all the single Ladies. Lady Victoria is upset, she doesn't want to go- her parents insist.
She goes, she finds him the most handsome man. Thomas is an American. He left there to start over. He is instantly attracted to her. or should I say, they are both. All the other ladies he meets can not compare, he can talk to her, they both "don't want to play the socialite game that London" wants. They did have some UPS AND DOWNS , AND TWISTS They finally get it together . HEA (it actually is a shorter read but I forgot to write the review right away so I decided to use today as the day I read it) # 22 BNB Challenge
I got a copy of this on book funnel, for an honest review
I enjoyed the story of Lady Victoria who basically doesn't want to follow the "London rules" yet knows she must. Thomas Jones, flees America and his past to start over in England and has no clue what the rules are and just doesn't care. He knows Lady Victoria is too good for him but he admires her brains and finds her so easy to talk with. Can two opposites make it work in society? Will they care? Maybe not totally accurate on historical information but if you read to just enjoy the story, this book is for you.
Lady victoria lives with her parents. She just wants to left alone to write her books and she wants to live in the country side by herself.
She meets Thomas at a ball. He then comes to her home. She tells him she wants to be alone and not marry. That is until he kisses her. She is now confused. Will she go off to live by herself or will she end up with Thomas?
I highly recommend this book to read i couldnt put it down. A wonderful romance book.
oluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy of this book."
A slightly more feminist Regency novel but not too much. It kept true to the era and the story was definitely different than I have read before. Which was refreshing. It doesn't just focus on clout and titles but about some of the more serious issues of the time while still being a romance story. Which in turn makes me think of something that you would have seen in Downton Abbey now that I really think about it. Never too terribly issue focused but brought up on some occasions due to personalities. It was enjoyable and very relatable. I will be looking for more by Abigail Agar.
I really enjoyed this book. It was easy to read, short and very sweet. I loved the characters. Last Victoria and Thomas were instantly in love when the met at a masked ball Thomas threw to get to know people at his new home. Victoria was so sure she knew how she wanted to live her life but as it normally happens, life got in the way.
I received a ARC of this e-book to read and write an honest review. I highly recommend this book. And the other books I have read by Abigail Agar are also great books.
Lady Victoria Turner had only one desire at age 23 she wanted to be left alone to write her story and not have to worry about marriage. Her parents really wanted her to marry and be happy. She received an invitation to a masquerade ball thrown by an American gentleman by the name of Thomas Jones. Thomas Jones started falling in love with Lady Victoria when he first saw her at the ball. He met her parents her father was especially happy with him and he started courting Lady Victoria. Abigail Agar has written a wonderful book that you should read...
I enjoyed this novella. This is the first that I’ve read from this author. I liked the plot but do question English/American terminology used. There were also lots of typos and glaring mistakes with the name Minnie/Millie even in the same paragraph. I received a free copy from the author and Bookfunnel by signing up for her newsletter. Because I did enjoy the story itself I will read another of her books with hopes that the proofing is much improved.
This was a short, sweet book that I read in one sitting. Victoria and Thomas are perfect for each other...she's an English lady that doesn't care for the social rules that "dictate London life" and he's an American that doesn't know what the social rules are and doesn't really care! The epilogue wrapped up everything nicely.
Short, sweet, good read. Cute story and I enjoyed the twist. Having said that - if I could I would rate it 3 1/2 stars to take off 1/2 point for editing. Near the end of the book, a critical character is called by two different names. In one case, in two adjoining sentences. That detracted from my pleasure. Otherwise I enjoyed it.
A sweet romance of an American man starting over in England and the proper lady he falls in love with. Victoria does not want to get married and live a proper and spoiled life. Thomas is not a proper man. Can he convince her he is not like the stuffy gentlemen she is used to. I received a complimentary copy and I am voluntarily reviewing.
This book was shorter than usual. It has an interesting plot. A few decisions needed solving. Two people, who do not want to accept societies rules, finally realised that for them to come together. Their choices were limited.
This author has written, some delightful books, that I would recommend to other historical romance readers.
I love regency stories but this one had to many confusing details in it. It was not british and had a tendency to become modern in language and characters. It had lots of potential to become a great story.
I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book.
I received this from Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. I have to say I really wasn’t a huge fan. Victoria is a lady who just drove me crazy. I did not like her at all. She drove me crazy just couldn’t like the story because of the character.
I didn't hate it. The story is cute. Honestly though it isn't well written. It's as if the characters told me who they are, rather than showing me who they are. Also one of my pet peeves is the love mostly sounds like attraction.
I absolutely loved this book. Couldn't put it down. I felt like I was there with them. I almost wished I was Lady Victoria because it was such a wonderful story. I so recommend this book to anyone and everyone.
I loved this book. Finished it in one sitting. Just so wonderful and exciting. The love they shared was fresh and different. Im happy they chose to be with each other and live a beautiful life together. Crazy twist of events throughout the book. I highly recommend this book.
I don't know if it's just because I had such a connection to a previously read book, or if I just am not in the mood for a novel such as this one- but I did not feel the pull to this novel that I normally do when I am reading a new novel. I will definitely have to try again later.
This is a quiet and delightful story of a woman who has no desire to marry. She find an American man who loves her stories and find her fascinating because she is different. They do the typical dance, eventually they fall in love. This is a story where the differences in each other matter.
What a delightful story. The character descriptions were great. I just loved Thomas’ character. What a delightful refreshing man. He knew what he wanted and set upon a plan to get it. Victoria was another delightful character. A lady of that time period that did not fit. A must read.
I enjoyed reading this despite the typos and grammar issues. I felt that the heroine is relatable with her shyness. I think that each of the characters learned valuable lessons. I don't want to say anymore to spoil the book for others.
