Misadventures with a Professor

Rate this book
"Sierra Simone is a master at….word play and fills the pages with one girls adventure with an older more experienced man." ~Beyond the Covers Book Blog

Zandy Lynch never planned on going to grad school a virgin. So when her professor father finds her a job abroad as a research assistant the summer before she starts her master’s program, she sees her chance. She’s got one night in London to lose her V-card to a Mr. Darcy lookalike before she has to join some ancient professor in the country.

Oliver Graeme is not looking forward to having some American co-ed hovering around while he’s trying to work, but he owes her father the favor, and besides, his office is an untidy mess of uncatalogued research. He needs the help. Still, he decides to take the edge off his frustration while visiting a colleague in London, and winds up having the sexiest, sweetest night of his life with a stranger, who vanishes in the morning without a trace…

To Zandy’s shock when she arrives at Professor Graeme’s house a day later, the door isn’t opened by a fussy old scholar, but by the wild, passionate man she met in London. Cold and reserved by day, Oliver is ferociously greedy with her at night, and it’s not long before Zandy finds herself falling for both versions of him—the aloof professor and the generous, rough lover. The trouble is that summer only lasts so long, and Zandy already has a plane ticket waiting to take her home…

Misadventures is a romantic series of spicy standalone novels, each written or co-written by some of the best names in romance. The stories are scandalous, refreshing, and, of course, incredibly sexy. They’re the perfect bedside read, a ‘quick blush’ for the reader who loves a page-turning romance.

If you like the naive heroine type who thinks she's not beautiful (when reality says otherwise), one who is so careless with her own safety that she willingly propositions a random stranger on the street (I'm pretty sure that's called prostitution solicitation ) and all because she MUST lose the dreaded V-card.

Well, then, have at this book. I'm out. DNF @20%.

5 Dominantly Kinky Stars ⭐️

Misadventures with A Professor is the perfect smutty read. It’s a story with dialogue I want to continuously reread, characters I found utterly appealing and chemistry that leaps off the pages.

Zandy Lynch is a soon to be graduate student, who's landed a research assistant role for Professor Graeme in the English country side. Before commencing her new job, she has planned a night out in London to rid herself of her pesky virginity, if only it would stop raining...

"I’m tired of ending my nights with a skinny margarita and a vibrator. I’m tired of dates that go nowhere, tired of coming home alone, tired of lying in bed with a hollow ache that no amount of battery power can massage away."

Lost and utterly drenched, her plans take an unexpected turn when she collides with a gorgeous stranger Oliver. And with a lot of convincing, Zandy entices this man into her bed. Except her one night of pleasure will come back to bite her on the ass when she learns that the stranger is none other than her soon to be boss.

I devoured this story (twice actually) while feeling hot, flustered and pleased the entire time. I adored Oliver Grahame, surly, arrogantly British, dominantly kinky and delicious. He was perfect for our heroine Zandy who was quirky, geeky, voluptuously sexy and oh so eager to explore and learn. They worked so hard at denying their attraction and keeping their situation professional. But, they were both a force of nature and completely combustible in each other’s company. This book is explicit, filthy and so very enjoyable. Don't be deceived by the boring cover.

"Fuck that. I’m the professor here, and I have the sudden urge to tell her so. To press her against the wall and put my lips to her ear and murmur all the ways she’ll respect my authority and experience."

I'm a huge fan of Sierra Simone so I couldn't wait to start this book. Ms. Simone never fails to deliver a sensually heated tale and I knew this book would be provide the perfect amount of naughtiness. Which I was right about, but unfortunately soon after starting in on this adventure misadventure I lost some of that excitement.

Zandy as a heroine came off as very immature, naive, and just plain stupid in the beginning. Meeting a stranger on the street and practically begging him to sleep with her is just not my idea of smart, and it put me off her character right away. After that initial meeting and night together it did get better and I didn't see more of that same pathetic girl from her so she did grow on me and I came to like her. Also the heat definitely saved the book for me and kept me intrigued enough to keep reading.

Besides the start to Zandy and Oliver's story I did enjoy this book and it's one I would recommend reading if you're looking for something easy and hot. It was very low on the drama and angst so there was plenty of page room for Oliver's "professor games," which will captivate you.

A Gorgeously Written Variation of a Familiar Beloved Romantic Trope

“Good God, I’ve become my own Victorian morality narrative.” - Professor Graeme

I have so many ideas to share with you about this extraordinarily well-written story. One that you may think you can basically guess at the plot line. After all, the Dominant professor/naughty student trope is not an unfamiliar one to romance lovers especially lovers of the earthier, spicier…dare I say… kinkier shades of romance. I can even imagine that lovers of mostly sweeter romance can be a wee bit tempted by a spanking from the uber hot, large and in charge Dominant professor especially if followed by the passionate intimate caresses that allow the sting to transform to delight. Ah but I digress…

Before I get into the delights of the hero in this entertaining, surprisingly complex tale, I have to say I just loved this heroine. She is a young woman who understands her uniqueness and desire to accomplish and be accomplished academically. She has suffered socially because of this desire, and also the lack of interest in the more mundane pursuits of her contemporaries. She finds herself in London for a night. Prior to this night, she meticulously researched and planned her deflowering. She simply decided the time has come for her to lose her virginity.

She is both innocent and educated, careless and meticulous at the same time. She has no idea of her allure. She challenges our hero with her frankness and her unconscious beauty. She is at all times strong. She may make the wrong assumptions or be naïve but she is ever strong and unwavering in preserving her own worth…even though she is the submissive student in the naughty games the “Professor” likes to play with her. Thank you, Ms. Simone, for writing this enchanting heroine.

The hero in this tale is quite something else. Of course, he is unquestionably hot. He has all the attributes that make romance readers dream and dream and fantasize and dream. For me, the sexiest thing about him is that he is a dirty talker. Who can resist a dirty talker… a man who can cast a spell making his naughty demands?

This author has a remarkable facility with language and she is a master crafter of narrative. This story simply flows. It is nuanced and there are complex themes underlying the character development driving the plot line. The story is written with charm, wit and even some tongue-in-cheek humor. It is both novel in its theme and timeless in its truths… an upending of Victorian morality or any needlessly judgmental morality code, really, that does not serve to preserve one’s joy and protect the dignity of all persons.

I suppose you get the idea by now that I thoroughly enjoyed this read. I read it one sitting. I was enchanted!

I highly recommend this to all who love a well-written, feverishly hot romance. Now, be good for teacher and go get this, read, and be delighted!

Misadventures with a Professor by Sierra Simone
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
NARRATION: Dual POV
BOOK DETAILS: Standalone

A whirlwind romance story between a professor and his research assistant.

MY THOUGHTS:
A kinky addition to the Misadventure Series Sierra Simone added a few spices to the mix with this one!

The heroine Zandy (Amanda) really put me off in the beginning, I didn’t like that she was so stupid and reckless throwing her virginity out there for anyone who’d take it, she came across as desperate and I don’t like that in my heroines.

“I don’t know if I can ever forgive you for being so careless with yourself.”
“My body is my own to be careless with.”
“Not tonight, it isn’t. Tonight it’s mine.”

Then the kink happened, and the nerdy good girl flew right out the window! And boy did she fly!
This is one of those reads that you can’t put down, the tension, the angst the chemistry is firing HOT ! It also addresses some real issues that affect so many of us and that is self-worth. Learning to accept that you are enough as a person and the perfect kind of beautiful for the right person.

There is plenty of back and forth banter, witty character and some extremely blushing sex scenes which made for an entertaining read.

description

I really enjoyed this book, it’s a first for me from this author, it’s well written and an easy quick read. I will definitely be checking out her other works.

I really enjoyed this four years ago. Fast forward to 2022, and I have to say not so much. The kink was still steamy as you would expect from Sierra Simone.

“You want me to teach you?
You want to be my little student? My little whore?”

However, it was the writing that didn't work for me. It felt like it was trying too hard to be poetic and lyrical.

If you love steamy books along with two people who both have a love for the written word, then give this a try. It might work better for you!

I love a good age gap romance, but when the younger party seems immature for their age it kind of makes the book less appealing. I think that’s what happened here. Sierra’s writing is great, but this one was just okay with me.

I forget in between her books just how talented Sierra Simone really is. This book is a perfect example of a seemingly simple storyline that gave me so much more than I was expecting.

It's beautifully written with language and imagery that made me feel like I was in the cottage by the river too. I have a serious girl crush on Zandy - the smart, sweet virgin scholar and Oliver, well Oliver is just about everything I love in a book boyfriend rolled into one. The filth level is perfect and the emotions are raw and felt so very real. I laughed a lot in this one, I also got a little teary at points - for both characters & the moments they didn't realise their true worth. I cannot recommend this book enough. It's a deliciously delightful novella.

I received an arc of this book.

“My body is my own to be careless with.”
“Not tonight, it isn’t. Tonight it’s mine.”

Deliciously dirty! Fantastically filthy! Oliver and Zandy set the pages ON FIRE!

Misadventures with a Professor by Sierra Simone is a SCORCHING HOT standalone novel in the Misadventures series. This passionate, banter-filled, sexy romance had me grinning, blushing, and swooning all over the damn place! When this author releases a new book, you just know that it’s going to rock your socks off in the heat and kink department.

Zandy and Oliver, with all of their differences, complimented each other PERFECTLY. He’s this sexy, brooding, alpha male figure and she’s this firecracker who is ready and willing to please. They have exactly what each other needs and the connection…the chemistry is insane between these two. If you’re looking for a quick and easy page-turner of a romance with plenty of dirty talk and kinky delight, you are in for an absolute TREAT with Sierra’s latest.

Sierra Simone has a way with her words that there isn't a book I read from her that I didn't love it a lot!!This is another fantastic read!

It was quick and sexy, exactly what I needed! With a sweet heroine and a broody hero to keep my interest and make me ach and swoon.

Oliver has to be the grumpiest I’ve ever encountered.
Well, not grumpy, exactly. Cold is a better word.
Glacial, even.
Unfeeling.
Stony.

so i was thinking of reading a few chapters after finishing my work but i ended up reading it all. okay, i like it a lot! incredibly hot, steamy and kinky. i can't remember whether the age of Oliver was given but he's definitely wayy older than Zandy. thinking that they won't see each other after a wild night, fate clearly has other plans.

what happens when you have a hot but broody British professor and a wild but innocent American student, throwing in some kinky sex and professor-student roleplaying?? 🔥

definitely looking forward to exploring more of the Misadventures series. 4 stars for me!

🔥4.5 stars!!🔥

“My body is my own to be careless with.”
“Not tonight, it isn’t,” he whispers. “Tonight it’s mine.”

This was a sweet, kinky, fun, fairly quick read that I enjoyed thoroughly. Sierra Simone can write the shit out of a sex scene, but she’s also just a great author. I always fly through her books, the prose beautiful and easy-to read and the stories heartfelt. This one is no exception- it’s sweet, serious when it needs to be but silly at times too, and filthy hot.

There’s no wet secret of hers that I don’t want to taste and learn. There’s no hollow of her body that I don’t want to know my touch. Mine.

The plot itself is fairly predictable, but Simone goes a little deeper than most authors would in a book this length. Scars don’t come from just unfortunate childhoods. Sometimes they’re from past relationships, and they seem to cut the deepest for those who fall the hardest. I’m not a huge fan of the “ashamed of my kink” trope, but it was done really well here, in a way that was understandable when it was weaved with past experiences. Oliver is a man that’s been hurt, and it’s very easy to see why Zandy is perfect for him. She’s an amazing heroine- blunt, honest, selfless but still independent. She’s loyal, yes, but not at the expense of her dignity. Her inexperience makes her both adorable and uncomplicated, and when she’s up against Oliver’s experienced self-loathing, it’s impossible for even him to not see who’s got the better argument.

“I love you too, Zandy. Don’t you see that’s why I’m willing to give up anything to be with you?”
“And don’t you see that’s why I can’t let you?”

So, yeah- this book is surprisingly meaningful, with likable characters, but it’s also really, really hot. The kink isn’t over the top or anything, but who doesn’t love some spanking by someone in a position of authority? If you haven’t read Sierra Simone before, Misadventures is a great place to start!

My cock jolts again, bobbing at visions of a future that will never happen: of this girl spreading her legs for me whenever I ask, offering up her sweet body like it’s mine to take. Sucking my cock under my desk while I work. Writing lines at her own desk, naked and ashamed. Crawling over my lap whenever I need it, letting me pet and tease and spank that round ass until she’s begging for relief.

Ended up actually enjoying this one. Glad I picked it back up! HAWT kinky naughty professor sexy times here! ;)

On hold @ 20%

Err, I don't know, I usually ADORE this author but this one is just not doing it for me. I get having to suspend reality to a certain extent but the author has to take us there in a somewhat believable way. To believe that this girl is a virgin at 22 years old and then just randomly decides to give her V-card to some stranger off the street (literally) is a bit of a stretch.

Might pick it back up later but right now, it is just not holding my interest.

3 'Professor's pet' Stars!

An entertaining novella between reads! Very much focused on the "teacher's pet" kink and lots of sex between the couple. Sierra sure knows how to write that! I enjoyed this short story for what it is but I do wish the deepth of the characters was more developed as well as the love story and feelings between Oliver and Zandy. I liked it but it definitely is not my favorite work written by Sierra Simone.

Of course, if you want a kinky and sexy treat between a professor and his research assistant and you have enjoyed Sierra's books in the past, check this one out and see for yourself how you like it. It surely was smoking hot!

Well, Goodreads, thanks! my review was deleted.
I'm beyond pissed. You suck!
I don't think Sierra Simone should be punished for it.

+++++++++++++ Here's a shorter version of my review:
I really enjoyed this book. 1st person POV.
Zandy is a very young American grad student (library studies) in the UK. She wants to lose her V card.- she's 22 yrs old & wants to have her first sexual experience She approaches a stranger on the streets of London.
I was yelling at my kindle. NO!. Zandy, of course was OK. More than OK.
She then proceeds to continue on with her studies with the Professor her dad recommended her to.
This is 1st person POV. alternating Zandy & Oliver.
The book flew by & had a lot of sexy times. Oliver has 2 polar opposite sides to him.
Zandy surprises him and they have some really smoking hot times. Zandy contributes to Oliver's library organization. Before Zandy, he had a big mess on his hands.
There are very few supporting characters. I was expecting a classroom setting with a student body and faculty to hide their shenanigans from.
I gave this 4.5 stars. This is my first Sierra Simone book . I borrowed it from Overdrive. I will be reading more of her books.

DNF Review: 11%

I cannot believe I am DNF'ing a Sierra Simone book this early in the game. I can't. It's stupid, right? I recognize that completely, trust me. I figure many will say that I didn't give it enough time, and that's a fair assumption because I really didn't get far. But at this point, I need serious convincing to keep going and that is not the norm with her words for me. I have read many of her books and even though I haven't loved them all, something always kept me intrigued - made me want to keep reading - and I couldn't stop reading. She has a way with her words that just binds you to her stories and they make you want to learn more. There is such an understated intelligence behind her words also. I don't know if it was the timing (this book followed another DNF after a fantastic read), or if it really was this one. So, since I can preface this review with the generic, "I love Sierra Simone" chant....I will sadly say that I didn't love this one at all.

I love LOVE instalove, but it has to be written just right for it to be believable and relatable and not turn out like a forced, crazy stalker-type chick; a love that I can connect with, one where the chemistry is growing and it's palpable even if it's immediate. This one, I am not even sure where to go with it. I felt zero chemistry, and it read as a desperate girl pushing herself onto the first good looking man that gave her attention.

This is NOT a spoilery review since anything I discuss is in the synopsis, but this scene happens in the very beginning to set the tone and it was the very thing that turned me off:

--> Zandy is a smart girl. She is a virgin in college, doing amazingly well at learning the words but clearly not the sexing - no shame in that game because she knew her man needed to have the brains and the looks. But that also leads me to believe there may be some naiveté to her personality. Her actions proved that point.

--> Zandy is a smart girl. She is working towards her Master's degree, so she has the internet at her disposal and a wealth of knowledge already at her fingertips. Why she can't RESEARCH what the weather is going to be like while she is there is beyond me. But, maybe I can let that slide....because things happen, you know? Sure. I can go with that.

--> Zandy is a smart girl. She RESEARCHED a club to visit for the ONE day she has available to visit the city and all of the sudden the sky opens up and it starts POURING rain. Downpour, soak you to the bone kinda rain. She can't see anything on her phone because: rain, so she puts away her phone and apparently gets lost heading to the club. She essentially looks like a drowned rat after she spent all that time primping, but her stubbornness and desperation to lose her virginity dictates she's still going to go?? NO sense, seriously…none. I can understand that she forgot her umbrella - I forget things all the time, but that means she had one....and she couldn’t go back to change and head out again once she was fixed up? I didn’t understand this little “issue”.

But I digress. At this point, she is soaked to the bone so naturally she takes off her shoes to run in the rain, right? Smart girl. Well, she runs into Mr. Grumpy because her head is down, in a city she doesn't know, and runs smack dab into his chest. He pulls her to the stoop right next to them.....because she couldn't slide into there in hopes of drying off or waiting out the deluge. But this is where I felt their chemistry for 2.2 seconds - the stoop that brought them closer. But then Zandy opened her mouth. The forced and painfully desperate way she acted towards him by suggesting to HIM that they could have sex....I mean, what?? It was like it came out of nowhere and having sex was just something you do....like breathe. I guess that's how these things happen, right? Sure. I can go with that. Just kidding, no I can't. It felt so weird and forced. Way too much for the likes of Sierra. She adds warmth and texture to her couples. This one just didn’t work for me.

Professor Oliver is a grumpy mofo and likes Zandy's watch - a lot.
And her lips.
He likes her lips, but he loves that she wears a watch.
And someone hurt him in the past.
That's all I got on him.
But in case you didn't catch it: HE LOVES THAT SHE WEARS A WATCH.
I cannot for the life of me understand why this bothered me so much, but it did. I mean, I can get whyyyy he likes seeing the watch on her because she is smart, values timeliness and all that other jazz, but the emphasis on it was way too awkward for me. Because….he liked her watch.

Does Sierra write hot? Uh, yes. If you haven't read her, I'm convinced you're living under a rock. HA! So, as many have said, this is a hot book, apparently, once you get into their sex scenes, but it was the getting there part that was a little too much work for me. He was gruff and she was just dumb. I had zero desire to push on and that bums me out. I am so sorry to say that.

I do know that I didn't feel anything remotely close to an attraction between these two characters so it came off as rushed and forced from the get go - biggest let down. Maybe I missed the meaning of this sexy, short read, but it missed the mark for me on every level.

Gahhh this book! I went from happy to pissed and right back to happy within the matter of minutes. To say this book pulled so many emotions from me would be a damn understatement, ugh!

ARC received in exchange for an honest review

Seeing a new release from Sierra Simone is a must read for me. This author has a way of hooking you in so deep that you forget everything and everyone around you until the last page and you suddenly realise it’s almost 1am and the whole day has flew past. That’s exactly the reason I’m writing this review at almost 1am in the morning. This book captivated me, there’s something extremely sexy about a professor and his student. It’s hot, sexy and just wow.

Zandy and Oliver are something special that’s for sure. She’s a young woman set out to do something she had planned and won’t stop until the deed is done and that’s how she happens to stumble upon the handsome man names Oliver. He’s sharp, cutoff and wants to be alone. After being hurt all Oliver wants to do is be alone and get stuck in to his work but that’s all about to change when the hot mess that is Amanda crashed into him.

And what a whirlwind of a story this was.

I just need to say that I hated how much of a pushover she was for him. He was an asshole to her, just because of how he felt and that just pissed me off that she LET him treat her like that and then forgets everything he did as soon as the possibility of him touching her comes around. UGH but even though that annoyed me them together also gave me heart eyes, I swear. I was so confused with all the feeling I had and I absolutely love that. I love when a book makes me feel all the feels.

There’s something so insanely hot about role play in books especially a professor/student role play. Bent over a desk whilst your professor goes at you, yes please *sighs* The sex, the intimacy is so incredibly thorough that it leaves YOU needing to rub one out or needing a cold shower, it’s just that fucking hot.

Sierra Simone did an incredible job with this book, seriously incredible. I’m in awe of the book, I’m a huge fan of the Misadventures books and this one of definitely one of my top favourites.

I will admit, when I first started this audio book I was N.O.T. impressed. Amanda, or Zandy, is in London for one night only before she goes to the English countryside to work along side a stuffy old professor for the summer. She's dedicated this evening to one thing and one thing only. Getting rid of the virginity that has plagued her for her 22 years. She runs into a handsome stranger whilst lost in the rain, and literally BEGS him y'all, begs him to sleep with her. Now, I have pride, maybe too much of it, and I almost DNFed this one thinking she would be a doormat.

Buuuuut, Oliver Graeme, said 'handsome stranger' caught me in his grasp with his grumpiness and his passion, so I kept on. Let's just say this highly spicy novella kept me very entertained during my little morning walks. It was actually very good, and Sierra Simone is a writer that I respect not only for her highly entertaining smut, but also just because she's a freaking great writer and knows how to captivate an audience. Oliver is healing from an old rejection so severe that it's left him feeling nothing but guilt and shame, but he can't stay away from Amanda, because her innocence speaks to his inner beast. This almost reminded me of a beauty and the beast retelling, with the manor and the library and all of the lovely books.

I actually grew to love Oliver and Amanda, and their ending, while resulting in that dreaded third act breakup that I love to hate, was actually wonderful and the perfect conclusion to their story. Oliver got his happily ever after, and Amanda did as well, all while coming into herself as a woman, and learning to stand up for what she wants, and not letting this gruff guy walk all over her. Loved it!

This was book 17 in the "Misadventures" series. Zandy Lynch is a virgin heading off to grad school when her professor father finds her a job abroad as a research assistant the summer before she starts her master’s program she sees her chance to lose her v-card. When she hooks up with a hot Mr. Darcy looking guy after a night out in London. When she gets to Professor Graeme’s house a day later she gets a shock when the Professor opens the door it the guy that she hooked up with. Professor Oliver Graeme is doing a favor for another Professor he is not looking forward to taking on an assistant so he goes to London and has a hot one night stand with hot sexy girl who is gone in morning without leaving her name or number when she shows up the next day they are both shocked. This was a pretty good read I love the way Sierra writes this book was written with the same sexiness as her other books. Zandy was quirky, innocent, blunt and a bit socially awkward. Professor Graeme is hot sexy and dominant. I liked both of these MC's a lot. This book was well written with no errors in grammar or spelling. I love reading this author.

Holy smokes! This one was hot, hot, hot. I didn't know what I was walking into but if you like light bdsm and spanking then yah this one is for you. There's a professor student kink to for the ones who like that trope ;)
