الغريب ان شخصية هيثكليف هي شخصيتي المفضلة وأكتر واحد صعب عليا بالرغم من كل المصايب اللي عملها..
حياته كلها عذاب في عذاب
والانتقام اللي سخر نفسه مكنش ليه اي فايدة..
فظيعة فعلا الرواية ده..
من ايام المراهقة ورأيي فيها ما اتغيرش..
بس المرادي لفت نظري معاني الاسماء اللي اختارتها وسألت عنها جيمناي




1. عائلة Earnshaw (إيرنشو)

Earn: معناها "يكسب" أو "يجني" (سواء مال أو احترام بالعمل والجهد).

Shaw: كلمة إنجليزية قديمة معناها "غابة صغيرة" أو "شجيرات".

الرمزية: عائلة "تعبت" لتمتلك أرضها؛ بتمثل الناس الأصيلة اللي بتشتغل بإيدها في الأرض.

2. شخصية Heathcliff (هيثكليف)

Heath: معناها "أرض برية" أو "خلاء" (الأرض اللي مش مزروعة).

Cliff: معناها "جرف صخري" أو "منحدر حاد".

الرمزية: إنسان "بري، صلب، وقاسي" زي الصخر، ومكانوش عارفين يغيروا طبعه لأنه جزء من الطبيعة دي.

3. عائلة Linton (لينتون)

Lin / Linen: بتفكرنا بكلمة "Linen" اللي هو قماش "الكتان" الناعم والغالي.

الرمزية: بتمثل "الناس المرفهة" (The pampered people)، حياتهم ناعمة ونظيفة وبعيدة عن خشونة الجبال، لكنهم "ضعفاء" قدام عواصف الحياة.

4. Thrushcross Grange (قصر عائلة لينتون)

Grange: معناها "مزرعة كبيرة" أو "عزبة".

الرمزية: مكان الاستقرار والرفاهية والمال الموروث.

5. Wuthering Heights (مرتفعات وذرينج)

Wuthering: كلمة محلية بتوصف صوت "الريح العاصفة" وهي بتخبط في البيوت.

Heights: معناها "المرتفعات".

الرمزية: بتوصف الصراع والعنف والمشاعر "العاصفة" اللي عاشتها الشخصيات هناك.


Some people cannot forget because their pain is part of who they are. For Heathcliff, forgetting Catherine meant forgetting himself.

I wrote the book ‘Wuthering heights’ from Emily Brontë. It’s an emotional story but often hard to understand. The story is about two families, the family Linton and the family Earnshaw, who lives in old houses and they have quarrel with each other. It is situated around the 18th century.
The story begins with Lockwood, He rents a house from Heathcliff and the housekeeper of Heathcliff tells him the story about the two families. That’s a little bit hard to understand in the begin. Heathcliff is actually an orphan, that was brought to Wuthering Heights by Mr. Earnshaw. The real son of Earnshaw hated the orphan immediately but his daughter Catherine likes Heathcliff more than she likes herself. Catherine and Heathcliff went to Thrushcross Grange, that is the house of the family Linton, to play secretly with each other. Catherine was bitten by a dog and the family Linton asks her to come in and to nurse the wounds. When she came back to Wuthering Heights five weeks later, she acts whole different. Catherine acts like a real lady. That’s the start of the story and from then on Catherine dumps Heathcliff for her new boyfriend, the son of Mr. Earnshaw. Heathcliff’s heart is broken and wants to revenge Catherine.
It’s a very emotional story and normally, I have a lot of trouble to read a book attentive, but I hadn’t the same problem with this book. The story is written like that, so you want to know what is gone happen next that you keep on reading. That’s a very good thing about the book. As everything, this book has drawbacks too. Like I said, the book is written like that so the housekeeper of Heathcliff is telling the story to Lockwood. That’s sometimes difficult to understand. In the beginning of this book, you also meet a lot of characters and throughout the story it’s sometimes hard to separate these from each other.
I would totally recommend this book to everyone. If you love reading or not, doesn’t matter. It such a good story and such an emotional one that it’s a pleasure to read it, even if you don’t like reading books. That was the same here but I have read this story with lots of attention.

The version I listened to couldn't be located on Goodreads. It was on Youtube as read by Ruth Golding. I enjoyed the enthusiastic voices Golding created for each character. As for the book itself, it came across as a very "woe is me" dreary Victorian soap opera, but very well done for what it was, the intertwining romances and tragedies within Wuthering Heights. The back and forth between the different relationships of the characters and how they evolved (or devolved) over the years, cross pollinated with English class politics, made it rise above the schlock later to derive from this genre.

What I loved about this book was the genius way in which the darkness which lies inside mere humans was depicted in a gothic style. No murders, no gore, yet the characters are shaped with such definiteness and sharpness that they give a chill to the reader.

I personally am the dark academia kind of reader who loves classics and dies for anything written by Oscar Wilde. This book was something i was gifted by a friend during freshman year of high school & surprisingly I remember all my friends talking about this book during English literature class and I just ignored and never actually picked it up to read. After several years i finally picked it up today and I liked it. However, i think i personally would have enjoyed the original published edition which is more detailed written. I do like the concept of this Gothic dark love story and i think i would even have cried if i read the detailed version. I look forward to getting my hand's on it. And Cathy is now always and forever in my thoughts..

Die Geschichte von Heathcliff und Cathy - schon oft verfilmt, oft gehört und oft gelesen.

Heathcliff der als Ziehsohn in Cathys Familie aufgenommen wird, wird vom Sohn der Familie und auch von den Bediensteten getriezt. Er wird als dunkler Typ bzw. Roma beschrieben die diese Behandlung in der Geschichte rechtfertigen.
Cathy und Heathcliff lieben sich, kommen aber nie zusammen, heiraten beide jemand anderen und Heathcliff rächt sich an Cathys Familie.

Klassiker hin oder her, ich finde die Geschichte grausam, brutal und in keinster Weise romantisch. Sturmhöhe bzw. Wuthering Heights ist Emily Brontes einziger Roman. Emily Bronte hatte wohl ziemliche gesundheitliche bzw. psychische Probleme, sonst kann ich mir den Roman nicht erklären.

Obviously the original novel that I read three times before, is much and much more powerful, but rather than reading it for the fourth time, I decided to read this shortened version just to recall the most important events. It did bring back the same emotions I had with this novel, and I cannot say enough how much I love the story.

I have read this book several times before. I like romantic stories from English countryside and I like the books from the Bronte sisters. The story is unusual and a bit gothic and at the end there is happy end too.

Another meaningful achievement:) Dude is revengeful until 3 generations of two families, scary 🥲 He intents to wipe out the whole families. luckily, he died when there's only 2 survivors from his hideous intention.

Indeed, I have heard about the fame of "Wuthering Heights" and Emily Bronte. I even get a little bit of touch to the story, but don't have a chance to fully read this masterpiece. So when I first saw this book, I unhesitantly pick it; and it doesn't let me down. The entire book, in my opinion, is fairly easy to comprehend and acknowledge the plot of the story. Love and revenge are always interesting topic in medieval literature. The tragic love of Catherine and Heathcliff holds an important role in the story, which is fascinating. With the Ellen Dean's narrative voice as an observer, the story took an objective view, sometime biased. This is because Ellen can realize what, which and who is right or wrong; so the story sometimes lean to Catherine, sometimes lean to Edgar or sometime lean to Heathcliff. Also, there is one other feature which I really like about this book. Since Wuthering Heights would be easily got caught in confusion because of the twisted character tree, Clare West carefully lists every characters and sorts into four different categories which is a brilliant idea.
Overall, the book is fairly comprehensive and the story is easy to tag along. It is very suitable for reader before choosing to buy an original "Wuthering Heights" of Emily Bronte

I was really glad when my teacher told me about the Read On! Project. I have no trouble reading books of this level as I've been reading books for years now. I'm really glad because this project gave me the chance to read a lot, although the books are really thin.

This is just my first book and it took me a while before I could start reading it as I've just bought a book when I borrowed this one from school.

The only doubt that I have about these books is.. Is it really worth it? Wuthering Heights was great, this kind of plot, the emotions, and the characters. I love everything about it and I just can't imagine the difference between this and the original book!

I feel like I just did something wrong, like I've just read a spoiler.. this 87 pages story is just that short! Its as if I've just seen a part of the story.

I just have to buy the original one eh? Haha!

I accidentally read this book twice. I had read it last year. Since I have read this story in another version as well, I had no trouble reading it- I sometimes troubles with memorizing names such as characters's name, places' or houses' while I'm reading English books. In this story especially, it could be confusing for me to know who's whose children. So this time I focused on the story itself and enjoyed it.

This is another version of Wuthering Heights. I think they use simpler words than the one I had read. I didn't know Mr. Lockwood is young and Ellen expected him to be in love with Cathy.

I found this book amazing. The story is so dark and gloomy. It will please to those who like family stories. The plot is so complicated to follow , but the many deaths and twists & turns , makes you feel like knowing the end. Which is so sad , of course. But it couldn't have another , I was satisfied. Expect you to discover many treason and murders. The suspense is panting , you won't be able to put the book down , you're warn.
Everything is perfect except one thing. Like i said , the story is so complicated because of the many relations between the characters.

My first experience with Emily Bronte, and it was because this is required reading for my secondary school. It was probably wrong to introduce this story to a young crowd. The tale seems a tad dark. The obsessive theme coupled with the romance makes the tale somewhat confusing and difficult to connect with. Maybe I just need to re-read it now that I'm older.

This is my favorite classic romance. Cathy and Heathcliffe's obsessive love intrigues me. I also wonder if Heathcliffe is the reason that so many of us like bad boys. Is this one of the places that we get that love of them.
