We stood three feet apart, but I could feel the worlds between us.
Something in my brain broke the day I learned of the Karak.
It’s been two weeks since the Karak made first contact on earth, and the town of Elijah, Wyoming will never be the same. Now inundated with UFO hunters and conspiracy theorists, Leslie doesn’t know how she’s going to keep the peace as the town’s only police officer.
So in the end, she doesn’t.
But sneaking aboard Jerix’s spacecraft has widespread consequences Leslie could never have predicted. Jerix faces a devastating punishment for bringing back a live human to the Karak homeworld: three rounds of shifter-fighting in the Karak Sunken Pit!
As Jerix shifts from dragon to wolf to human in a desperate attempt to survive his sentence, Leslie’s affection quickly grows—fueled by the graceful, yet brutal, manner in which Jerix fights in the Pit. Will her Karak Warrior be able to stay alive for three bloody rounds?
And of course, the deeper question haunting Leslie: what will they do if he does survive?

I am reviewing this through individual books due to the box set being unavailable.
Alien Shifter Box Set by Ruby Ryan - This box set includes the books; Karak Contact, Karak Warrior and Karak Invasion.
After initially struggling to get in to this set, an unusual situation for me and solely due to outside influences, I settled into the story of aliens and humans. From the initial concept of shape-changing aliens who watched the galaxies for signs of intelligence, to the maniacal traits of some humans, I thought the story-line was thoroughly entertaining. The characters were well thought through and personalities were accurately portrayed through written word, in such a way that the reader can see familiarities. A well written series of books, all interlocking with the background characters, and a series I think will fulfil all the needs of romance and sci-fi lovers alike. Well done, Ms Ryan.
3 1/2 *** Discription tags: Adult Sci-fi/PNR with Gladitorial violence, underdog. Another great story with likable characters from Ruby Ryan. This is number 2 in the Karak series and is both a continuation of the over-arching series plot and a complete story. Love is both the cause and solution to their problems (much like alcohol) with the Karaks on their homeworld. Leslie has snuck aboard Jerix’s spacecraft which has widespread consequences Leslie could have never have predicted based on her conversations with Jerix. The pompous Dominion lord (A little redundancy in that title, but descriptive none the less along with being somewhat gender neutral.) sentences Jerix to three rounds of shifter-fighting in the Karak Sunken Pit to regain what is seen as Jerix's lost honor. In reality, it is a ploy to kill Jerix off without blooding Its own hands, thus continuing Its own civilized veneer and reinforcing Its own feeling of self-worth. The lovers face the trials with the power of their feelings for each other and the emotions stirred by the conflicts, to emerge with an even stronger bond. It is not truly known at this point if the Karak have gender, only that they have appeared as male so far. If the ruling council had collected all the information from both Leslie and Jerix, then maybe they would have had a clearer picture of the situation. On the other hand, maybe it is for that very reason that J&L are sent away in an effort to keep them from contaminating more of the population. As beings of light, energy, and thought this could very well happen, like uploading a virus into a hive mind. While everyone is still an individual, they are also connected to one another by the group "awareness" or "consciousness". Again, like other stories by Miss Ryan, there is an awareness of the power of rulership being borrowed from the mass of followers. If the dominion lord were to condone such behavior, would It lose or gain personal power? It chooses not to gamble, but go with the accepted precedent set by past failures. This is a safer, neutral choice of getting them away while observing how the situation turns out. Kind of like quarantining a virus to see if it is deadly or just inconvenient for a little while then making the host stronger for the experience. This choice also sets the stage for the next episode in the series in which Humans are recognized as intelligent life forms, but not ready to become part of the Dominion. For those of us who have followed the overall story so far, excitement ensues as to how things will turn out in book 3. Critique/ Editorial: The story alone is worth 4 stars. I have deducted half a point for the annoying practice of misused conjunctions, as the other minor mistakes, being so few, would not have interrupted the flow of the story nearly as much as this glaring rejection of proper grammar. More authors have adopted this flinch-inducing tendency. It is up to we readers to let authors know if this bothers us by how we "grade" their submissions for our approval. Do we expect published authors to be a cut above the average Facebooker posting their fan fiction? Am I a nerd because I love and respect the rules of language? If we don't stand up for wanting clear communications, who will? This is one of the reasons why Americans are viewed as sloppy because we tolerate it. These writers are not children, nor are they new speakers of the language. While I respect Ms. Ryan and other authors for their creativity and all the hard work it took to craft this more intelligent alturnitave to television; I am reminding them that those of us who choose this form of entertainment also EXPECT more. Thank you for your time.
Many thanks to Ms. Ryan for offering this on BOOKSPROUT so that it can be read by a wider audience using whatever format of hardware and software they can afford, instead of forcing readers to purchase special equipment to enjoy this story. Inclusion attracts more fans than exclusion and encourages readers to repeat business. It's so nice to be wanted, thank you. Keep calm and wright right on. ;)
Elijah, Wyoming Alien shifter Jerix a Karak warrior aka Jamie(human form) Sent to earth to collect animals for zoo and research
Leslie: small town sheriff only has one good friend whom she watched fall in love with an alien and she left town. She's feeling kind of lonely and downs something stupid like sneaking on Jerix's space craft.
She is attracted to Jerix and wants to in a way escape her life and experience something different, but there may be consequences for Jerix by her sneaking on his space ship. Jerix may just have to fight to keep his rank. What will Jerix do? Will Jerix survive a fight and if not what will happen to Leslie?
This is my very first sci fi alien romance read. I normally stay away from these stories. I decided to try something different and I'm glad I did. I really liked this story about space and warriors and shifters and one human whom is naive to what she may have caused. The fight scenes were something out of the gladiator movie.
This story definitely changed my view on these sort of stories. This is a series so I will be reading the first book real soon.

I received a free ARC copy of this and am voluntarily book leaving a review. This is the second book in the Karak Series and gives more details about the Karak people and planet. It follows the adventures of Jeriax a shape shifter scout for the Karak Dominion of Planets who comes to earth to rescue Arix, a fellow scout who crash landed on Earth. There he finds that his friend has fallen in love with an earthwoman and intends to stay. While there he meets a female police officer Leslie, to whom he is attracted but discounts this attraction and leaves earth to return home. However after finding Leslie stowed away on his ship he finds that there are more problemsand danger to confront when they arrived on his home planet and admits to himself that he has fallen in love with her. This is a well written story with a exciting storyline with much drama and a unexpected ending.
The story picks up where Karak Contact ended. Jerix spends another 2 weeks in town, collecting on Earth and hanging out with Leslie. A few to many beers and all the UFO hunters in town has Leslie stowing away on Jerix's ship. Jerix can't bring himself to explain the consequences on her actions to Leslie. He gives up everything to save her life. His lies of omission nearly cost him Leslie. Great story. Fast paced and steamy. Can't wait for Karak Invasion. I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book from Booksprout. Bought a copy, like the series and will be reading again.
This is the 2nd book in the series and I absolutely loved it. Leslie is the towns police officer and she has had enough of the UFO hunters and the conspiracy theorists so she sneaks aboard the Karak ship. Jerix was not allowed to take humans back to his home planet, so when he gets back he has to compete in 3 rounds of brutal fighting as punishment. Fantastic storyline and I loved the characters Leslie and Jerix and I can’t wait for book 3. I definitely recommend this book it’s well worth the read.
Different...This was not my cup of tea. I love most Alien stories but I was very put off by this one. I kept losing the train of thought in the beginning of the story. It wasn't even in the realm of make believe. I know some authors have great imaginations but they're also in the area of possibilities. This was just out there so took away from the book for me. Then the ending out of nowhere. Sorry I can't give a better review but when I spend my money, regardless of amount, I want something that I can get into. This book didn't even come close.
Second book in the alien romance series. We get to know two of the other characters from the first book. Leslie was a great friend in the first book but. Ow it is her turn to find love. Jerix’s brother for a human female. So now He will have to report him to his own world. How could his brother break a directive for the love of a human female? When things don’t go as planned his own world will be taken apart.
The second book in this series called Alien Shifters and I could not put it down. The suspense, the drama,I just could not get enough of Jerix and Leslie's story. I hope there are more books to come in this series.I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
as the second in the series, this delivers in spades and I loved it! The alien becomes the local and the earthling becomes the alien in a world of confusion and otherness which makes for a really great scenario! I loved the battle descriptions and the interaction between characters and the HEA worked for me!
Great story and well written so highly recommended to all
A most interesting alien story, unlike any I've read before. It is part of a three part series. I read Karak Contant and if ound that it really is necessary to read it before moving on to Karak Warrior. I won's give away exactly what they are, but it is a true SCIENCE-based story. As I am involved with quantum theory, this story was a real delight and made me think of possibilities. 5 stars!
First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.
Excellent story. Leslie is a human sheriff in a small town. She loses her one only true friend to a Karak alien. (They fell in love). Jerix is an Karak alien shifter, that Leslie wants bad. He's on earth to collect samples to bring back with him to Karak, but she sneaks onto his ship and now the sh*t is gonna hit the fan because that's a big no no. I really enjoyed this story. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up.
