The Caretakers are dead, destroyed by the revelation of their long-ago corruption at the hands of a mysterious alien race. But Earth and its human survivors are still not free; the alien scourge that brought about so much calamity to the planet are coming to claim what they believe is rightfully theirs. Standing between them and their prize is Emily Baxter and the ragtag remnants of the human race.
With the help of new allies, Emily must journey from the frozen island of Svalbard back to Point Loma to confront Sylvia Valentine, the woman who tried to have her murdered. But all is not as Emily expected, and she finds a very different Point Loma than the one she escaped; the enemy has arrived and the harvest of the planet’s resources has begun.
Now Emily, Rhiannon, Mac, and Thor will face their greatest challenge yet, as they and the other survivors confront the creatures responsible for unleashing the Caretakers on their planet.
The old world is dead and the final battle is about to begin, with Earth and the future of humanity as the prize.

A self-described science geek, he’s a voracious reader of scientific periodicals, as well as a fan of things mysterious, unknown, and on the fringe. I have waited for this book for a while. Reading it took me a while, too, not sure why. I can say it's a very good wrap up of the series. There might have been some slower moments. There were moments, where I've felt like things were going too smoothly for Emily and the rest. There were also moments, where the story was gripping and kept me on the edge. Ending made me smile. I liked this book and I'm bit sad it's over. On the other hand - it was happy end. Well, mostly.
I very much liked what the author did with why the caretakers had destroyed earth and what was discovered. For me the middle was a bit too much violence and yes that is me saying someone who has been reading so much true crime, but I did feel so sorry for those poor survivors. All they had gone through and still such cruel deaths for some. Hard to read. Good ending though of a series I enjoyed.
An epic ending to a very impressive series of books.
The pace is fairly slow to begin with, a chunk of time being spent in Svalbard (a place that sounds nice, if a little on the chilly side). This isn't a problem for me, as I like a little world building with my action, which is exactly what you get here.
The book the gradually builds to the series finale, and what a finale it is. The action is intense, epic and goes on for ages. The antagonists are particularly sinister and believable and the protagonists are suitably heroic. At times they seem a little too heroic, until you remember that their backs are to the wall and what they're doingg is from necessity, not choice.
This is a series I would recommend to anyone. If you're looking for a slightly different take on the apocalypse, this might be for you.
A sadly disappointing conclusion to an overall great sci-fi series.
I recently discovered this series while browsing my local library and ended up devouring all 5 books in about a week. After a fantastic 4th entry with tons of twists and a compelling set up for the finale I could not wait to see how it all ended. After finishing Kings I am sad to say this was easily my least favorite of the series.
I'm not even really sure where to begin with my issues here but I will have to dabble into some spoilers to really convey my frustrations with this story so SPOILER WARNING from here on out!
The "locusts" that were discovered during the end of Genesis turned out to be very underwhelming big bads with no depth, no dialogue, no hidden motives or philosophy to their methods other than a "destroy all life on earth" cliche that we have seen a million times before. I felt that this series was at its absolute best when it was contained, small scale and had the sci-fi horror survival vibe of The Last of Us. What we get here is an action heavy final showdown that feels more like Gears of war than the last of us, with the bad aliens even sharing the same name as the gears of war aliens. The final battle is just full of too many cliches and tropes that didn't do it for me, which is strange coming from a series that didn't previously have that going. At the end there are bullets galore, explosions, endless waves of baddies, giant war machines, enemies that regenerate their health like they came right out of a video game and a very deus ex machina solution to all of the baddies.
There were many elements from Genesis that seemed to have gone nowhere in this story or fell flat, such as the motives of Dr. Valentine, why is she so evil? why did she try to have Emily killed? Is she hiding something or working for the aliens? None of that is answered here, when we catch up to her she is a giant mutated bullet sponge that is pure evil and rage...another thing that felt like it was straight out of a shooter video game.
This was the only book in the series that I had trouble finishing, the plot drags along quite a bit until the final battle, there seems to be so much wasted time during the first half or so that could have given us more answers or more depth to what these "locusts" were up to and where they came from. I give it 2 stars because it does wrap up the series in a sorta satisfying conclusion after the big battle ends but this book just reminds me how hard it is for writers to deliver a satisfying conclusion to a book series.

Aight, this one is hard to rate for me. I’ll try to break it down the best I can. What I enjoy, and look for, in Sci-Fi books is that they get me hooked; interested; amazed and wondering what’s going to happen next. This book did exactly that and I enjoyed the ride. Believe me when I say that I finished this story in one day. That hasn’t happened since the Harry Potter days.
The story and development are interesting and original. Things happen at a good and consistent pace. Characters evolve and everything moves along quite nicely. However, the plot itself didn’t quite make it for me. For some reason, I could not connect with the Adam storyline (and the lack thereof Mac's storyline towards Adam. Quite weird if you ask me)
I also didn’t appreciate Valentine's storyline as Emily's “enemy”. What were her motivations, other than just being a woman against another woman at the end of the world? Women can be antagonists, of course, but a little bit more context other than “jealousy” (of what?!?!?) would have been great.
I was lucky enough to be asked to be a Beta Reader for this book, a chance I jumped at; who wouldn't want to read the final instalment in a series you've followed for years, before anybody else gets the chance!!! Leaving a review was left completely to my own discretion.
I found the book to be a great ending to Emily's story and became absorbed from the start. The book has a lot more "hopeful" feel than the previous books, and I really enjoyed this new slant as it gave us a new insight in to Emily, Mac and Rhia. I do not do "spoilers" so I will simply say that I'm going to miss Emily and the gang now that their story has reached it's conclusion, but oh my, what a journey we've been on!
Extinction Point: Kings is the last book in the series. And it was a very good book. It’s been 2 years since I read the 4th Extinction Point book, Genesis, and I was really surprised that I could pick up KINGS and immediately be right back in the midst of things. Things went haywire. I found myself reading like I was trying to run from the monsters myself, almost panting if you can believe it. The book flowed nicely. I didn’t see any mistakes whatsoever, but then I was panic reading at times. It was definitely an ending. No spoilers here…but the series is over. And I am pleased with the ending.
I chose this rating because Jones created an amazing world! Through his descriptions, main character- Emily- and her adventures to survive, he carved out a world that will never leave my mind! I highly recommend this series, especially if you enjoy getting to know the main characters and seeing how their lives evolve from one point to another. I also like the twist that puts the Caretakers in a different perspective than when we first meet them! Are they as evil and/or heartless that we first think? Read on and, even if you're good at figuring out plots, see how this story might trick you!
Having just finished the final installment in this series, I felt this book was the most energized and heartwarming to boot!
Unlike many book series I’ve read, Paul closes all “loose ends”, if you can call them that....to include looks into the future.
I don’t want to state too much, as doing so would spoil this well laid out conclusion to this story. I will say this, Ms. Valentine, I think most everyone has a Valentine type person (male and/or female) in their lives!
So looking forward to more writings of this author. He does not disappoint, that’s for sure!!!
Sad I've finished! Loved every book, fantastic series.
I loved every minute and word of this series, kind of sad that that it is done but loved the outcome as the twists and fast paced development kept me glued. This is by far one of my favourite series and loved following the characters through their struggles and achievements. Obviously this type of book isn't all happy endings so there are is a lot of sadness but also some happy which leaves you smiling as you will undoubtedly become invested in the characters and their survival. Give it a go!!!
The final book in this series had to drag through a boring middle part before letting all hell break loose and racing towards an ending that was satisfying enough. Not unexpected, and not perfect, but with a positive message and a very hopeful outlook - something we don’t get a lot in sci-fi books these days. Yes, there were odd ideas that didn’t quite work, plot holes and an uneven structure, but the author certainly has come a long way and learned how to pick up the pace and write mesmerizing action sequences and characters to root for. I’m content, and this was entertaining.
A fifth and final part of the series, Emily Baxter, her friends and family face their toughest challenge yet, this time fighting to prevent the extinction of the last remaining survivors on Earth. If they succeed, humanity can begin to heal - itself and the planet - but if they fail then the last of the invaders will strip every remaining scrap of life, leaving the third rock from the sun a barren wasteland before moving on to find their next target.
I loved this series and Kings was a good finale. I enjoyed following the high and low spots of the relationships between Emily and her friends. This was a twist on the more popular scenarios of what causes a global apocalypse. Emily, her friends and allies had to rely on convincing an alien enemy that humanity was worthy to survive, not just defeating them in battle. Excellent series I would definitely recommend.
I truly enjoyed this entire series and will be seeking out the rest of your written works as soon as I'm done here! I was never bored with the story and was always on the edge of my seat wondering what was coming around the next corner. I'm sorry to see Emily, Mac, Rhiannon, Adam, and Thor go. Thanks for tying the whole story together so well though! It makes it easier to see them out.
I actually questioned myself as to why I liked this book. Emily was a true heroine. She went through so many losses and always came through them. She learned so much and used every experience to make the best out of it. This ending was as exciting as the others Emily and Mac were the perfect couple to have success. I only wish, simply because I am as mother as well, that Adam could havelived as well. But he is and always will be with his mother.
You need to read the five stories in sequence to appreciate this. Well worth the effort of doing it as it tells an involving and evolving story of a survivor. You do get to feel for the lead character as there are numerous problems to overcome but this is a practical story from the start. There are no magical mysteries or silly solutions that some books have. It is well grounded and comes across so much better for it. Read and enjoy.
Emily’s adventures have finally come to an end, through an epic, exciting, nerve wracking finale that kept me flying so quickly through the story I had to keep clicking back a few pages to reabsorb the content.
I will certainly miss Emily, Mac and Rhiannon!
Thank you Paul for an incredible series and for introducing me to ‘end of the World post apocalyptic’ world of books!
I have truly enjoyed reading this series of Extinction. It was fascinating and suspenseful that kept me on the edge of my seat. The journey that Emily traveled and all she endured led her to her fulfillment on the planet. This is a must read series and I thank the author for a job well done.
I was waiting for this to come out on audiobook but as it will not be I decided I had to know what happened to Emily. I read it in a day and thought it was a wonderful conclusion to a series I love so much.
If you have read the other 4 books in the series you do not want to miss this exciting conclusion.
Paul Antony Jones has written a wonderful series and Kings is the perfect ending to this series. If you have read the four previous books in the Extinction Point Series then Kings is a must read. The ending is deeply satisfying and you will cheer Emily, Mac, and Rhiannon on throughout this series. Definitely a 5 star read.
I've been on this journey with Emily for a long time and while I'm sad it has ended, I just can't think of a more enthralling and suspenseful and a "hit you right in the feelings" kind of series. It's like I personally know all of the main characters and went through the apocalypse with them. Can't wait to read it all again.
Mr. Jones series has kept me engrossed. Occasionally predictable, but in a satisfying way, but mostly entertaining and thoroughly enjoyable, and an accurate mirror to our own human foibles and paranoia. If you like a story that enfolds the best and worst of mankind, then read this series, you will not be disappointed.
Yikes, This Completes The Series. Think I'm Going To Miss it.
Strong ending to the 5-book series, marred only by a seemingly endless final battle sequence that just went on and on and on. But the universe was saved, earth is on the mend, and humanity is given a second chance. I heartily recommend this series, good old time SF at its best. Congrats, Mr. jones, a job well done.
Overall, a good story. Bit laggy and repetitive at times, mostly in the beginning of the series. Almost felt like words were added to extend the series, yet no noticable grammar nor frequent misspelling that plagues many books on Kindle unlimited. This is a series that if you paid for it, you likely won't regret it.
This is the best science fiction series I have read! It was fast-paced and contained very few spelling errors. In reading other ebooks, I get very frustrated by the lack of good editing. This series had excellent editing as well as awesome writing. Thank you Paul Anthony Jones for writing this series!
I picked up the first book in this series a couple of weeks ago, and haven't been able to stop reading since. What an amazing experience! No spoilers but I strongly recommend reading the whole series from start to finish like I did, to appreciate the full impact of this fantastic story. Loved all the books. Hmmmm, might be time to read them all again...
I have not read & been so engrossed in a story for so long. It worried me that true artist's with 'words' were no more. This was action, adventure, heartbreak, adversity, good vs evil in a brilliant science fiction series. I loved it & will hope that it continues. In some way, shape or form.
This final book in the Extinction Point Series was an absolutely perfect ending to the series! A heart pounding page turner from beginning to end. I hope they make it into a TV series!!! Very well done Paul Antony Jones!
Have loved the entire series and this author's writing. His attention to detail is remarkable. If you love post-apocalyptic science fiction, you will love this too.
