In this Thriller Short, New York Times bestselling writer Mariah Stewart weaves a chilling tale about a missing child. Mallory Russo left the local police force two years ago to join the Mercy Street Foundation, an elite unit for finding the missing and lost.
Karen, the thirteen-year-old daughter of Donna Ralston, disappeared a decade ago. Donna tells Mallory that a woman who moved away years ago has recently come to town and told her that she used to see Karen walking home from school with her friend, “the Tripp girl.” Mallory’s investigative juices start flowing and it’s not long before she has a hunch about what might have happened. Her beau, a police detective, doubts her. Find out whose instincts are right…
Mariah Stewart is the New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of forty-one novels and three novellas and has been featured in the Wall Street Journal. She is a RITA finalist in romantic suspense and the recipient of the Award of Excellence for contemporary romance, a RIO Award for excellence in women's fiction, and a Reviewers Choice Award from Romantic Times Magazine. A three-time winner of the Golden Leaf Award presented by the New Jersey Romance Writers, Stewart was recently awarded their Lifetime Achievement Award (which placed her in their Hall of Fame along with former recipients Nora Roberts and Mary Jo Putney — very excellent company, indeed!)
After having written seven contemporary romance novels, Stewart found true happiness writing murder and mayhem. She considers herself one lucky son of a gun to have landed the best job in the world: getting paid for making up stories. At home. In sweats and J. Crew flip flops. Could life be sweeter?
I really enjoyed this book which is not always the case with short stories! The author did a great job keeping me engaged from start to finish — every chapter made me want to read “just one more.” The suspense, twists, and character development were well done. Mariah Stewart has a way of building tension while still giving you characters you actually care about. Definitely one of those reads that keeps you turning the pages late into the night. If you like mystery and suspense with a little emotional depth, this one’s worth picking up!
In my former life, I read a ton of 'romantic suspense'. So, it has been a hot minute since I have read Mariah Stewart. It was ok. A former detective, who now works for a nonprofit, takes on a case of her former chief.
Without Mercy is a super fast murder mystery. It’s easy to follow and keeps you guessing. If you like quick reads with suspense and mystery, this book is a good pick!
