Max discovers that there’s nothing worse than a jealous ex-girlfriend. Especially one that’s jealous from beyond the grave…
Lucy discovers that she can access the Akashic Records of mankind. But due to her bad judgement, she thinks she’s made a terrible mistake in doing so…
Erik experiences visitations to the astral plane known as The Dreamstate, but dark energies lurk there in the aether…
It is said that aether is the metaphysical substance that all matter and consciousness permeates. Perhaps it is this aether that can account for the unexplainable and impossible things that are happening.
Spirit possession, spiritual technology, alien abduction, past life memories and time slips are just some of the tales included in this whirlwind of ten metaphysical short stories set on our plane of our existence, and just beyond.
I really did enjoy my journey into the Aether. Natalie Rix has presented the reader with a very eclectic collection of short stories that are very readable and beautifully crafted. The characters are well presented and very believable. I liked the concept of this book and how despite the ten stories being different, they all have a connection to Aether. My favourite stories are 'My Podge' and 'The Phoenixis' which had a slightly darker undercurrent. Oh, I also Googled 'Min-jun'!
An absolutely brilliant collection of short stories! They are very well written and action packed. I couldn't put the book down. I really enjoyed it. The stories are quite long for short stories, varying from 17 to 47 pages in length, so you really get your money's worth! The stories are different and unique. Unusual ideas. Weird but in a good way! Quite different to anything I've read before. They remind me of something from The X-Files or The Twilight Zone. I look forward to reading more from this author.
I should start by saying that I'm not particularly enamoured with Sci-fi books/novels. I can't say I don't like them because I really haven't read enough of them to make that kind of judgement, I just tend to steer clear. However, since I've been running a local, monthly book club, I've made it my mission to try and read books I wouldn't ordinarily pick up.
Into the Aether by Natalie Rix (a fellow, local author and friend) is a collection of short, but sweet, sci-fi stories. The ten tales in this book may just have swayed me towards reading more work within this genre. And I think that is because there's a personal element to each piece. The stories are as much about the strong, believable characters as they are the subject, and for me, that is what's most important. The cast has got to be strong enough to carry the story(ies). Into the Aether is a veritable pick n' mix. Each story is very different, but at the same time, they're connected by the "Aether" .
If I'm honest, I only purchased this book because I wanted to support one of my book club authors (I still do. And I support them all!), but I finished the book in eight days and I can honestly say that I throughly enjoyed the eclectic collection, and it's definitely inspired me to pick up and read more sci-fi.
This is a brilliant collection of stories that all take the idea of "the aether" and explore what it means in very different and inventive ways. Natalie has a deft touch when dealing with characters, and I found her treatment of the more romantic elements very good, not succumbing to overly flowery or sugary language or sentiment. But it was with the darker stories that I found the writing really came alive! Natalie doesn't shy away from the darker side and like all authors I admire, doesn't always feel the need to wrap things up with a happy ending. For people who like science fiction and thought provoking ruminations on the nature of the universe, this is definitely one for you. Highly recommended!
Absolutely amazing collection of short stories! This is the first book I have read of Natalie Rix and I was really impressed with her style, how I was captured into each story and her imagination with the possibilities of the kinds of forces that are out there. My favourite story was the girl who travelled forward in time - the emotion in that story and the characters were so vivid. Well done Natalie!
A friend recommended me this book and I'm glad I took notice because I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very good collection of stories. I like the mixture of horror, science fiction and romance. Interesting ideas and descriptive writing style. I would like to read more by this author.
Just finished reading this collection, and shockingly, there wasn't a single one I didn't like! Usually with a collection, the stories can be quite hit and miss, but not with this one. The Prince's Tavern was my favourite, though.
What a great collection of short stories. I enjoyed everyone of them. Natalie writes with such conviction and knowledge that every scenario a d story are totally believable. I abs loved every page of it
If you like a bit of sci-fi, a bit of horror and a bit of the unknown all wrapped in a diverse cast of characters and settings, look no further. This short story collection is varied but coherent. I enjoyed reading this very much and would totally recommend this to science fiction and paranormal readers.
I love the variety of stories in this collection. From aliens, to time travel, to paranormal experiences, this book has it all. The author has used language to really send shivers down the spine, such as this creepy ending: "Until the day he died, I watched my podge. My podge." Love it! My favourite story of all was "The Conduit." I usually dislike stories about authors as it just seems a little cliche, but there was certainly nothing cliche about this story! The only thing that could have made it any scarier was if the protagonist's name had been Natalie. If you enjoy short reads that deal with the unknown, then you will love this collection.
A delightful, diverse and dynamic read! This is a wonderful selection of short stories from an exceptional writer. Natalie’s work is full of imagination, engaging plots and creative characters. The short stories in this book all have captivating twists, with themes of mystery, love and humour weaved throughout. I have never been a sci-fi fan, I am now, thanks to Natalie’s outstanding work. A highly recommended read.
I really enjoyed this anthology. Although the stories are all linked by a common theme, they are all very different. There really is something for everyone.
