I started out liking this, the whole crossover in time was a bit different than the usual H or h find themselves in another century, and there was also some mystery to solve, secrets from the past, etc. as well as the h having a career as an interior designer and being an art/history lover, some of my interests.

But then, it got annoying with all the emphasis on Catherine's selfish, alcoholic wild child sister, and 19thc Lucien using his time period's moral tropes to avoid making love to Catherine, who turns to a free-spirited Australian sailor for her orgasms, instead.

As if that wasn't bad enough, an old diary reveals that Lucien had sex with a 14-year-old girl! True, she was willing, but at 22 he should have known better!! That was a big "GROSS!!! " And that's when I stopped reading.

This is one of my all-time favorite reads. I read this book long ago and then couldn't stop myself from reading it over and over again. I love a good time travel book and this one is it. I really enjoy the relationship between Lucien and Catherine. The author did a great slow burn with their relationship. It's a fun romance read with some slight gothic overtones. A perfect read for the fall!

Okay... so this book started off good. Then it took a confusing turn and then a wtf turn? The guy gave me the ick and not even for that one part, but even before I read that part, I was like this guy isn't it. I liked the concept of jumping back and forth between time lines but that was pretty much it.

Initially I wasn't going to write a review of this story. I was a little leery when the first sentence had a spelling mistake. There would be some others.

This romance had both highs and lows. Catherine Sternwood inherited a home from her grandparents. Alone, except for a younger sister, she intends on living in the seaside community of Nantucket and setting up a business. While in the house she meets a man from the past who comes and goes in her reality. Then she finds herself in his time. Scared and confused, they both come to an understanding. They soon realize that they were meant to meet and fall in love.

In the meantime, I was hard-pressed to grasp the significance of Treasa Sternwood, the sister. She is loaded with problems and Catherine is an enabler. Big time. I kept thinking that the author could have introduced a different situation that wouldn't have been so depressing. I wondered why she put up with the annoying Treasa.

Also, there is another relationship of Catherine's that tips the scale. There was some slow reading because the author tried to explain everything in great detail. And lastly, the final chapters didn't make a lot of sense. On the whole, this piece of fiction (sort of) reminded me of 'The Ghost and Mrs. Muir'. I think that with some good editing it could have been a great time-travel romance. BELOVED CAPTAIN had potential. For this reason I am giving it 2.5 stars rounded up to 3.
