Happily Ever Alfie

Rate this book
Happily Ever After can seem so far away. Especially when life kicks you every time you're down. Alfie Stanford was a master of fairytales and happy endings but his own story was one sad twist after another. He didn't have time for true love and he was too tired to dance at midnight, he had four younger siblings to raise.

Happily Ever After doesn't happen for everyone. Sometimes, you miss your chance while you're serving your country. Jack Church gave more than thirty years of his life to the Army and believed it was too late for him to be some man's Prince Charming.

Sometimes, a little girl and a very special quilt are all it takes for something very magical to happen... Sometimes, there's robots.

This seemed like the longest book on the planet. By chapter 9, I felt like I'd been reading for eons, but I was only at 27 percent. WHY?

This story was just soooo boring: pages and pages of mundane details about fixing the garbage disposal and more cutesy kid moments than I can possibly handle in a lifetime.

I started skimming, and, no, not even the sex could save this one, never mind the morbid talk of death in the epilogue. I guess that's realistic when you're 20 years older than your partner, but death is not romantic. Just sayin'.

K. Sterling is usually a hit for me, but this one was a little lacking. Alfie is raising his brothers and sisters after the death of his parents. He is struggling, and he's barely making it. However, his little sister decides to play matchmaker. Thus begins the love story between Alfie and Church. This was a fluffy read regardless of the hardships Alfie faced. He just didn't have enough money or time. What he did have was an abundance of love. His sisters and brothers adored him so much. However, Church was too one dimensional for me to rate this any higher. He was a fucking paragon...too unrealistic for me. He retired for the military after 30 years, and he is bored out of his mind. He decides to help Alfie. He's a housekeeper, mechanic, plumber, babysitter, etc. Oh yeah, did I forget to mention he's well off too. Come on!! I mean this guy is unreal...😱 He was just a little too perfect for me.

This must be one of those "it's not you, it's me" type of books, because clearly there are plenty of people that really liked this book. I struggled to even get to the half way mark, and I finally threw in the towel at 70% because I just didn't see it getting any better.

I just felt like...nothing really happened. And yet, a lot of stuff did happen since it felt like I was reading forever. And Alfie was freaking out over the most non-freaking-out-things-possible, and the kids were there but I still didn't even know who was who, and yeah. Alfie couldn't do a thing, but Church could do EVERYTHING. I dunno, It just didn't work for me.

Sweet and hella hot! Alfie is pretty amazing, even though he's slowly killing himself to take care of his sisters and brother. Church is pretty amazing, too, and he'd be perfectly happy taking care of Alfie for the rest of their lives, if Alfie would just slow down and let himself be taken care of for once. Nice steamy book -- loved the laundry room sex!

Wonderful!

I really cannot express how much I loved this book. I've always enjoyed Ms Sterling's work, but in Happily Ever Alfie, she's taken her work to another level. I laughed out loud, I choked up, I sighed at the romance. Charlie and Alfie were everything I've ever wanted in my MCs.

I'm not usually one for love at first sight stories, and this was certainly one of those, even if there was an awful lot of lust at first sight too. The first time Charlie and Alfie had sex was so hot, the page sizzled. At the same time, I just had to laugh. The kids too were a delight, especially Nora the Destroyer.

I'm not going to go into detail about the plot, I don't want to spoil it for anyone. Just know that this is definitely a keeper, I'll definitely be reading it again and that, if you don't read it, you're missing out big time. A MUST read, in my humble opinion. 5 plus stars.

Happily Ever Alfie is a charming, feel-good romance by K Sterling.

When Alfie meets Jack at the library, neither expect them to develop a relationship. Alfie's busy raising his young step-siblings. The term organized chaos perfectly explains his life. Jack, newly retired from the Army, has never been able to be out before. When Jack starts helping out around Alfie's house, the sparks start to fly.

This story is just beautiful, full of the importance of family, as well as love. Alfie's sacrifices are amazing and inspiring. And the way Jack steps in to help is heroic and exquisite. These are two men are so damn lovable! And they expertly demonstrate the strength that one gains with love.

Their story is full of kid chaos, kid fun, and more. It's low angst, with a whole lot of enchanting moments.

It's a fairly short story, but it packs a whole lot into it's 106 pages. I am elated to have found this book.

Beautiful May/December romance!

Losing your parents is never easy. Losing your mom and stepdad and becoming the parent of 3 young sisters and a baby brother is even harder. It's easy to see why Alfie was such a hot mess in the beginning. What a wonderful character though. He loves his little family so much and doesn't at all resent his situation. His only concern is raising happy healthy kids. A dropped blanket and some car trouble brings him Church. Church is a retired soldier. He is blown away at the first sight of Alfie and the kids quickly worm their way into his heart. He tries to resist at first. He thinks he is too old and that Alfie can do so much better, but he couldn't be more wrong. Alfie isn't afraid to go after what he wants and I had so much fun watching these two men fall in love.

This is why I love this author

K Sterling has a gift of developing engaging characters that are unique yet relatable...she must have hundreds of different people living in her head! Happily Ever After is sweet and romantic with those signature hot scenes. Alphie is quite the dirty talker.
The blurb might be a bit misleading as this is not a spin on a fairytale. Outside of some "robot killing" there is no great adventure. (I caught that Nora went from slaying robots to a political news anchor...same thing?) Anyway, this is a perfect romance about finding love and family. K Sterling's epilogues are always epic but I think this is the first that brought tears to my eyes.

This was LOVELY. K.sretling is back on form and I am exceptionally glad about that. This was a poignant tale of Alfie who is left as the care giver of his 4 very young siblings. Alfie is soldiering on bravely but is very much overwhelmed by the demands of caring for the children, a crumbling house and, as an afterthought, himself.
Along comes Church a hunka, hunka burning love and hot times ensue as they learn to love each other deeply. We are privileged to be invited in as Church learns to love and as Alfie learns to let someone share his burdens.
This really was a sweet tale, nicely told. 4.5 low angst stars.( rounded up to 5) 💥💥💥💥💥

Love K.Sterling's Books

I always start searching for new K.Sterling books every 6-8 weeks. I check her blog, and her twitter, hoping the next gem is ready for release. And she never lets me down with the quality of her stories.

Happily Ever After is no exception. This book was BRILLIANT. I related to Church and his need to fix things and I adored Alfie who can never stop moving. The two together...no real words do them justice.

So, what are you waiting for? Read this beautiful, heartwarming, and sexylicious book!

I really loved this book.
K. Sterling's books are always so playful with a dash of real life issues, but I don't know if its just me and the state of mind I am currently in or if it was in fact the story itself. however, Happily ever Alfie had a whole lot more than just a dash of real life issues that were addressed in this book and I was so there for it!
this also falls into the category of, the more innocent and cartoony the cover is the dirtier the sex scenes are, which again I was totally there for.

Perfect!

I wish I had a way to describe how much I loved this story! It has humour, heartwarming feelings and hot loving! What makes this such an amazing story is how well all the elements are blended together; there is the the May to December theme, a past tragedy leaving MC to raise siblings, precocious (but funny) kids, humour and steamy scenes.
I absolutely loved this book. Ms. Sterling, I could hug you🤗🤗🤗

Good Read

I actually like a lot of books that K . Sterling writes some more than others . This books wasn't one of my favorites but a good read anyway. I loved that one of her characters stood up and took care of his family. He was just wonderful and I loved the kids. The kids added to the story and didn't take anything away. If your a fan of K. Sterling you will enjoy this book.

Did not finish at about 30%.

Alfie was juggling family life while writing gay romance at night. They're poor and the house is rundown but they have no mortgage to pay, so it's all good. Jack is the perfect Jack-of-all-trades, he can fix everything and he's exactly the kind of a guy Alfie has always dreamed of...

Just eh. Insta-love and everything is perfect and just...could not get into this at all.

Church was too perfect, it was so insta lovey it made my teeth hurt, half the time I couldn't tell who the hell was doing what because the author used he instead of a name even when she was changing who the focus was on, and there were a lot of moments when I was rolling my eyes at the over the top way they talked or the way they had full on conversations in the middle of sex, it was just too much for me.

Amazing and adorable

This book by Sterling was different than the Boys of Lake Cliff but it was just as fun.
Alfie and Church are so sweet and adorable as they navigate life with four young children and a considerable age gap.
The author takes the trope and makes it real and it’s amazing.

We have two strong men because of circumstance find each other and learn to love one another.

And it’s just downright funny.

This was a sweet story!

This was a heartbreaking and heartwarming romance. Alfi was drowning and the Knight in shining armor his sister found for him was Church. Their love is a slow burn but oh so steamy when they get there. This is a well written love letter to family, survival and living authentically. I also enjoyed the dedication to books and libraries that is a woven through out this story. If you want a feel good HEA read this book!

I adore Alfie and Church. I found myself laughing, falling in love and very happy with their hea. I read this in one sitting as I just couldn't put it down. I needed to make sure Alfie got his happy, and he did with the help of Church who just needed to take care of someone. The children were adorable and very much part of the story. My heart felt so good after reading this story.

For whatever reason, this author rings my bells for comfort reads. They are sweet reads. Comfort reads, the type I used to prefer a long time ago, but that now at times I need them the most.

I just like her characters and stories, including the tendency to include some mundane details which in another author would make me go insane.

I loved this book!!

Alfie is amazing with these kids, he is funny, sweet and incredibly smart. Church is the all American Hero who sweeps in and breathes life into Alfie. Together they are so strong and amazing parents. With 4 kids to deal with its not easy but Alfie and Church are so awesome. I loved Nora, Liza, Ivy and Jeffie, they made this book extremely fun to read.

Snark, wit, humor, love, and a bit of sexy time

Another fun and witty book. K Sterling is the Queen of witty dialogue. Her characters in this story will steal your heart as they make you laugh and cry. We all meed a little or a lot of “Church” in our lives.

Heartwarming and loveable

I laughed, sighed, cried, and enjoyed this book thoroughly. Alfie and the children were great characters, and it was such fun to see them entangle Church in their lives. You'll love them just like Church does!

I enjoyed this book all the way until the epilogue. Getting a bit morbid at the end was not needing and kind of diminished the story a bit putting a sad spin things. I like my HEAs without looking that far into the future.
