Linah Morane, a well-known woman of Meridionalis has been scorned and taunted her entire life due to her abnormalities. After the humiliation of being abandoned at the altar, she humbly accepts the unexpected marriage proposal to the King’s Vizier, Kohl. Her heart still fluttered each time she fondly remembered their first and only dance together.

The depth in her eyes was emphasized by the rare hue of cerulean that peered into his soul. Those eyes had stopped the very beating of Kohl’s heart. He had fallen in love with her that very moment. Over the years, her poise and grace to overcome the whisperings were admirable on a royal level. Then fate arrived and Kohl lept at the opportunity to have Linah as his bride.

Seeking safety for his wife after learning of impending war, they journey through the forests and mountain caves until Kohl is mortally wounded. Linah turns to the Nightingale Queen and her gift of healing for help, but is unaware of the damaged past the Nightingale Queen and her husband share.

Secrets are exposed and loyalties shift in this thrilling tale of love and war!

Great book...
Linah has suddenly agreed to marry Kohl, the king's vizier. But just as their happiness was supposed to start, war descends on the kingdom! These two lovers are thrown in head first to a world that is being torn apart. And when Kohl becomes mortally wounded, Linah has no choice but to ask the Nightingale Queen for her help. Secrets will surface and Kohl's past will be revealed. Can Kohl and Linah move past all that and share a love that was seemingly meant to be? And better still, will they survive long enough?
This book is beautifully written with lavish detail that makes you really feel like you are in the book's surroundings. although in the beginning the names make it a tad bit difficult to get into at first, the author has great word usage and an obvious grasp on the English language.
The story itself is well written and easy-to-follow. It is fast-paced and picks you up right from the first chapter and hooks you in so you cannot put the book down. As a bonus it also beautifully sets you up for the next installment.
I LOVE that the strong female main character has disabilities! This is the sort of thing to help break through the stigma that people with disabilities are weak.
I also love that the author gave us a bit of a backstory on the two main characters. Although it wasn't much, it was very sweet and added to the story perfectly. The author's love for her character's is very apparent.
This is one that I would definitely recommend and I'm very much looking forward to the next two installments.

I honestly had a hard time getting into this story. I really liked the way it played out but I didn’t feel anything for the characters. I had a hard time connecting with them emotionally. I didn’t feel their relationship so it was difficult to get into the story for me.
But I enjoyed the way it played out but do wish there was more show then tell.

I like the fact that Linah is not the perfect woman usually seen. She is physically challenged in that she has only three fingers on one hand and has lost her hearing in one ear. I would've liked to know how this came about. I also would've liked to see more of how she overcame her challenges - there is mention a couple of times of how her lack of hearing in one ear adds extra hurdles in her way. But, the lack of fingers gets pretty much forgotten. While I understand that not fixating on these challenges is a way of saying that they don't matter - but it is also important to note that she did grapple with these issues. Having said that, Linah is awesome.

I loved Kohl - he is a great character and I totally loved reading about both of them. Their relationship quickly fell into an easy rhythm despite all the troubles in their way. It works, because both characters are mature, which is so good to read.

My biggest grouse with the story is that there's too much happening in a very tiny amount of time. The story starts off with a fictional world with seemingly normal people. For almost a quarter of the story, there is no reference to anything out of the normal, no reference to beings other than humans, powers other than humans etc.

Finally, Kohl turns out 'more-than-a-mere-man', which is fine, considering this is a fantasy and we were all waiting for the shoe to drop. But then, we see a werewolf-ish character (a backstory is hinted at for the state of this species), then come some sort of ghouls or evil spirits and a magical queen who can heal what no one can. The queen has a 'normal' son.

The credit is all to the awesome writing of the author that despite all these questions that popped up as I analysed the story to write a review, I still enjoyed the story. Also, a big thank you to the author for not leaving us hanging on a complete cliff's edge with regards to what happens to Kohl - she could've left us hanging with Linah sitting beside Kohl's body and made us wait for the next installment :-)!

All in all, I'd love to recommend this book to anyone who likes fantasy and a quick read - although I truly feel the story could've been fleshed out far more to give it a more wholesome feel.

I love this book. The fmc is really relatable with her being bullied and treated so bad and then the male character sees her flaws so to say but he sees them as just another thing that makes her beautiful. This book was very detailed and very easy to read and hard to put down. I recommend this book to everyone.

This is an interesting story that is fast-paced, and captivating. The characters are diverse, complex, and likable. There is something for everyone in this story, a little mystery, romance, and plenty of twists and turns. I look forward to reading more from this author.

Book Title: Chevalier
Book Author: Bree M. Lewandowski
Source: Received it as a gift ^_^
Rating: 5 stars

Look at that gorgeous cover! Very beautiful.

This is a fantasy romance novella about two people- one is damaged due his past and the other is disabled. It has interesting turns and twists and the way they got together was imaginative and romantic. Doesn’t that grip your attention yet?

Bree writes in an interesting style, different from the current other books that I’ve read this year. For a novella, there is a lot of description about interesting lands and lots going on.

You will gripping at your reading device or the paperback reading the ending. I promise you. 😉

I recommend this book to readers who like reading romance and adventure.

It’s for 18+ readers.

This one's going to be four stars for me.

Let me say one thing before I start. This is a good book. I had some personal issues with it, but I know those issues won't bother everyone, so please take my critique with a grain of salt and give this book a chance.

One issue I had with this book was the wonky grammar. Not bad grammar exactly, just...wonky. It contains a few errors than probably only the staunchest grammar nerds would notice. But I'm a grammar nerd, so I noticed.

On to the story itself. It was good. But it left me underwhelmed in some ways. I couldn't help but compare it to this author's Under Lights duet. Ms. Lewandowski's first two books blew me away with their attention to detail. I expected the same when she tried her hand at fantasy. I expected such in-depth world-building that I would live in this beautiful place she created. And don't get me wrong. There was world-building. And it was beautiful. But I wanted more. I wanted to know more about the Shirs and the Nightingale Queen. I wanted a front row seat for the ritual that elevated Kohl to the Order of Chevalier. Details were there, but not as many as I wanted.

And the romance? Well, I've said before that I don't normally read romance, so maybe I'm not the target audience in this situation, but I felt that the whole thing unfolded too quickly. Remember, I was spoiled by Under Lights. That story is told over two books, and the first one is 300 pages long. The two main characters have heaps of time to get to know each other before they start declaring their undying love. And they take their time. So much time, in fact, that when they do get together, the audience is like, "Finally!" Chevalier is one book, and it's barely more than 150 pages. Basically a third the length of Under Lights. So, of course, it moves at a faster pace. And maybe that's what romance readers want. Maybe it's a genre where you get in trouble if you let the sexual tension build for too long without giving the characters, and the audience, the release they crave. But I love a good build-up of tension. Heck, my favorite love story is Mulder and Scully from The X-Files. Remember how long it took them to get together? Seven seasons. Yep. We waited seven years for that release of sexual tension. And I loved every minute of it. So I guess I prefer slower-paced stories. Again, maybe it's because I'm a nerd.

Okay, so that was a long critique, but I want to repeat what I said above. These are my issues. They may not bother other people at all, so please give this book a chance. There is plenty of good in it. I loved the two main characters. The flawed heroine and the strong hero with the tortured past. Two people who believe no one will ever love them...until they find each other. It's a beautiful concept, and Linah and Kohl fill their roles well.

I also appreciated the role reversal at the end. Linah is portrayed as a delicate flower who needs to rely on the help of others. Kohl is her knight in shining armor. Until Kohl falls ill and it's up to Linah to save him. In order to do so, she has to rely on reserves of strength she didn't know she possessed. I'm a sucker for a story with a vulnerable male lead, so I was eating all of that up as I read the ending of this book.

So please check out this book and make up your own mind about it. If you like a touching love story encased in beautiful world building, this may be the perfect book for you.

When LInah Morane is left at the alter on her wedding day . She humbly accepts the marriage proposal from Kohl the kings Vizier. She rememebers the one time they danced together . Kohl had fallen in love with her with that one dance. Over the years he has watched and fallen for her over and over . Her poise and grace were something of beauty and that alone over came the whispers of the court Then fate arrived and Kohl had the woman of his dreams . But there is war coming to the kingdom and together they must over come a lot . When LInah turns to the Nighingale Queen . She doesn't know the past the two share .
The characters in this book are so well written and complex. Linah has carried herself quite well even though she has a few deformities . But with Kohl she feels beautiful and wanted . First off she comes off naive but as you see her through out the book she really grows strong and actually blossoms through out the book . Kohl well he is more then just the Vizier . He is sweet and oh so sexy but there is also a paranormal element to him that makes him stronger and faster then most people . He is the kind of guy you want to have your back when push comes to shove . I mean he does have his flaws though like sending his bride to a spot where she coudl be attacked by incoming enemy troops but all is good . The characters are great on their own but together they are pretty awesome . There are a few characters that they meet and either help them or try and kill them a time or two
I sat down and started reading this book in the evening, I couldn't put it down . Its a fun little read that will have you reading until you are done . There is a rollercoaster ride of emotions that go on while you read this book. You will have to laugh and wipe a tear away . There is just one thing I wish it was just a little longer to really get into the characters and the story . Over all i really enjoyed this story and I can't wait to read the rest of the books in the series . So if you want a great fantasy book that you can read in an afternoon poolside I say put this one on your summer reading list .

Thank you Voracious Readers Only for the chance to read in return for a non-biased review.

Linah has had a tough life, she was born with a birth defect and only has 3 fingers on her right hand and add to that can only hear from one ear. This has made her the target of bullies through her young life and into adulthood, including her own mother. Now to top it off, she is abandoned at the alter by a man she did not love. Thankfully Kohl, the king’s Vizier steps in and offers to marry her. Rather than being embarrassed she is secretly happy as still remembers a night where he danced with her and treated her like a human being, and not a freak like the other ladies and gentlemen of the kingdom made her feel like.

However, a war is coming, and Kohl is required to stay with at the palace. So, he sends Linah away to Cordia where she will be safe, with the promise to come to her within 2 days. Only Kohl expected the enemies to attack the palace and not the very place he sent Linah.

Can Kohl save the woman he has secretly loved since the moment they met? You will need to read to find out.

Whilst the story and characters were good, the writing style was different to what I am used to. If I am honest, for me, it was too descriptive on surroundings and inner monologues, and I wanted into the actual story. Even though it was a different style for me, I feel others will still enjoy, but I found it a little over complicated and had to re-read some parts to ensure I understood and sometimes I didn’t quite get there. However, like I said I think others will like this and I want people to check it out to form your own opinion.

The positives were, I really enjoyed the story especially when it veered into the Fantasy and Magic side of things. It’s dual POV and I found I really believed the main characters love for each other and their chemistry really did show. Also, it was a nice short read compared to what I am used to so that was a nice change.

For me this is a 3.5/5 but I really hope you check this out.

Chevalier is the first book that I have read by Bree M. Lewandowski. Most of the fantasy books that I read really belong in the YA genre, so I was not sure what to expect from my first foray into the fantasy/romance genre. What I found was a world that held me captive.
Bree weaves words onto the canvas and creates a masterpiece. Rich landscapes, full of color, take on a life of their own. The characters are well-developed and add life to the landscape.
Kohl, former captain in the Order of Chevalier, banished to prison for his betrayal, and then brought forth to serve as Vizier to The King, has proven his loyalty time and again. He is a man of honor.
Linah, niece to a Duke, is no stranger to the cruelties of high society. Deaf in one ear, and a malformed hand, she has been subjected to ridicule and humiliation her whole life; however, she is still expected to make a suitable marriage match. Jilted at the altar, she makes a decision that will altar her life forever.
Throughout the book, Linah is portrayed as a delicate flower, described as being fragile, made of porcelain, and seemingly breakable. Underneath it all is a will of steel, and the heart of a fierce lion! She is bold and courageous, and doesn’t back down from a challenge. I believe that female readers will identify with her.
While the story starts out a bit slowly, it progresses quickly and I was drawn right in. There are many twists and turns to the plot that will keep you guessing right up to the end.
It is a beautiful love story that will leave you wanting more!

Having read very few books by this author, I was excited to see that she was writing a fantasy book. One thing that really drew me right into these books was the authors very descriptive word building. While anybody can go on and describe what a character may look like, how they may act, and the city they may live in, it can get really boring having descriptions just thrown at you. However, I didn't have that issue with this author and as she's describing Meridionalis, Geneva, and other cities these characters travel to I could almost see them all building in my head.
Linah Morane. I love this woman. She may have gone to finishing school and her uncle may have helped her to afford everything she may need, but not even her uncle's money and position can procure a groom for her.
The minute the King's Vizier Kohl was introduced I was smitten. He's a very humble man given what he has survived and that the King took mercy on him. He never thought he'd deserve love of a good woman like Linah because of his past and the amount of time dedicated for his job.
When these two finally do come together I love that Linah was able to be the soft spot Kohl needed when it came to his job. The same can also be said about Kohl. He didn't try to "tame" Linah's independent tendencies. If anything he loved that she would do anything necessary to save those she loves.

I loved the With the Lion and the Wardrobe and understand why this tale brings on memories of it. This woman unwanted and "deformed" had no idea what was in store for her when she showed for her wedding. He life changed and things she never dreamed of came true as a new world was opened to her. In this story she is forced to believe in the impossible and find the unexpected. It is an adventure and while a lot more frills than I usually enjoy but it all worked. The imagery is amazing and you can feel the attack in the field. You can see all the authors reveals and you know you have arrived in her world.

I do love these characters he is strong yet unsure of himself with her. He treats her with loving tenderness that captures her heart. A shared past connects them and unites them as they make their way to safety and each other. I had this quirky smile on my lips each time they became more aware of each other and their feelings. It was just a feel good read so beautifully written that it really is unique. Great read.

I got a free copy of this book to read and review through Voracious Readers. Chevalier is the first book in the Paragon trilogy and is a fantasy romance.

For me it was an easy read - overall I enjoyed it however there were a few points I wasn't a fan of or felt lacking.

So first of all I found that the fantasy element was very little and not what I was quite expecting. I would have liked to have learnt more about Kohl and the Court of the Rising Sun. This perhaps comes up more in the next book however personally I would have liked to have learnt more in book 1.

Secondly I thought it was too focused around Linah and Kohl, I understand it is a romance book but for me a bit of context of what is happening outside of their little bubble would have been good.

There also wasn't a key "baddie" it seemed to be lots of little ones which didn't give it the buildup I was quite expecting howeer saying that it did make it a light read by doing it in this manner.

On the other hand I liked the characters, especially Linah with her disabilities - we don't see these characters enough in books, especially as main characters! Kohl's character was interesting too, with his background and everything else. It would just have been that little bit better to get some more development on his character with some elements such as his history with the Court of the Rising Sun.

Glad I read it - just lacking in detail for myself but if romance is your thing then it's a good read!

I give this book 4.5-Stars.

This is a good book. It's a sweet romance in a fantasy setting and I really enjoyed reading it.

I like the world the story is set in, and I felt close to the characters, rooting for them to succeed. I found it believable the way Linah and Kohl fall in love. After Linah is left standing at the altar, Kohl steps up and takes her as his bride. It's not love at first sight, but they do fall in love while married. Linah has some deformities that have the rest of the world shunning her and making fun of her. I like characters with flaws, and I thought Bree did a great job with all of that.

The cover says romance, and I like it. It's different and colorful. The writing is good, the characters are believable, and the world they live in is brought out with great writing.

The only reason I did not give it 5-stars was there were a lot of names to try to remember in the first chapter. But once I got through that, the book sailed along.

I really enjoy her writing. I've really liked everything she's written that I have read. This was no different. This has a little paranormal in it and it was fascinating. One of the most fascinating books I've read in a while. I was in love with Kohl and Linah. Kohl has been through some horrific things in his life but he's special and the way he treats Linah just wow very sweet and caring. Linah has a couple of deformities and she's not had an easy life with them. She's been taunted and teased and she's just not had the best Mother in my opinion. Her Uncle has been kind to her. After being left at the alter Kohl steps in. He's had a thing for her a long time. So, he jumps at the chance knowing he doesnt deserve her but marries her anyways. I love their journey of discover of one another and this lady made me laugh and cry. Anyways, I loved the book!

I received this book for an honest review. I liked this book, it's ok if you fantasy ie (The Lion, Witch and the Wardrobe). The two main characters are Linah who is deaf in one ear and has a deformity on her right hand/arm. Then there is Kohl who is King's Vizier. Kohl doesn't see Linah's her imperfections he see's her as a whole. They had one dance and lost a chance to blossom a relationship. But, either of them forgot one another. Then, 5 years later an opportunity presented itself to change all that. Then the story really takes place.

If you like ya fantasy like A Lion, witch & a Wardrobe, then you will like this book. There is a lot of action and scenes I find highly improbable for the heroin to survive. I will re-read this book again. It's an ok book for me.

This book has many components of an awesome novel. I particularly like certain things about it. When you strip the story back to it bare bones its a love story between two individuals that really need each other. Linah and Khol have been through a lot of personal struggles and pain and even after they get together the struggles for these two don't end. But instead the struggles they face together makes them stronger individuals and a strong couple. the scenes that really focus' on the two main characters where hands down my favorite. I would recommend this book to readers that like fantasy worlds and fantasy romance

Chevalier by Bree M. Lewandowski is an excellent fantasy story and a heartwarming romance all rolled into one. The author has a way with words that will have you engrossed in the story of Linah and Kohl - how they met, how they fell in love and everything in between. Their love and consummation of their wedding vows is so well written that I could feel the love pouring from the pages. I do not normally like reading bedroom scenes, but this is so full of love and so worth reading.

I received this book as part of a Quirky Blind Date with an author and I always review every book that I read. I highly recommend this book.

Hmmmm….well, Chevalier is a very slow paced book. It’s was categorized as a fantasy romance but written like a time period piece. Women are chattel and their worth is according to their marital status.

Linah is a ward of her uncle and considered an invalid for her physical deformities. She is left at the alter by her fiancé and saved from social disgrace from the Royal Vizer, Kohl.

The marital arrangement begins their journey together from discovering their feelings and being mired down with duties and tasks. Kohl and Linah go from one adventure to another while Linah discovers the world outside of her ‘ladyship’ marital role. The pace of this novel doesn’t pick up until the last two or three chapters.

Chevalier would be more aptly categorized as an historical/fantasy romance; the fantastical parts are few tidbits thrown into the mix.

"This was a hard story to read yet it captured my attention and had me glued till the end. I know for fact that main characters with disabilities are always complex... the theme itself is complicated. With guys they're attractive in a different kind of way but with girls it's a weekness and they suffer a hell lt more so I'm happy how the author developed Linah 'trauma' and her after Kohl. Plus he was adorable for seeing her 'weaknesses' as what he loved about her. The reason I'm giving 4-stars is because the writing style, specifically the description and details were too much for my tastes. At some point it absolutely bored me but aside from this it was a good story."

The characters were good too.

One is disabled and one has a pasted.

The one with the past has come out of prison to become a vizier
to the king.

The disabled character gets left at the alter and the vizier offers to marry .
and she aged and this is were it all starts getting interesting and to the point where you can't out the book down.

I would recommend this book to any one who enjoys
Romance and fantasy.

This is the first book I have read from this Author

This is the story of Kohl, the vizier, and Linah, the niece of a nobleman of the court. It is a well written fantasy story that has love, drama, strife, grief and the power of magic (Chevalier). The places written about were very vividly described and you could picture them in your mind while reading. Though I found in spots that the story dragged a little, it was an overall enjoyable read that I would recommend to anyone who read in the fantasy genre. A solid 4 1/2 stars given by me.

This was a really cool story! I knew going in that the genre was fantasy romance. The fantasy part was introduced so subtly that I forgot there was a fantasy element until there were hints here and there throughout the story.

I love that the made the main female character was not perfect. Her imperfections made her strong. This is such a great love story. I was on the edge of my seat during a few parts of the book.

This is not a genre that I usually read but this is making me want to read other books in this genre!

Kohl was a broken man. He was the kings right hand and he did his job well. Linah was a gentle woman who had some deformaties that most people could not over look. She was left at the alter on her wedding day but Kohl rescued her and married her that day. The troubles that they both had to go through almost ended with her losing him but she found the strength in herself and her love for him to save him. It was an incredible story.

This is the first time in reading this author with it pulling me in to see what it was all about. Stepping into another world will be the requirement with Linah taking me there. Then there is also Kohl whom is one intriguing character. After I had started it though it dawned on me it was a trilogy and bummed alittle because anymore it is hard to get them all with so many reads out there. Drama and adventure the forefront in this with it giving you thrills as you read it. What I liked is they are two different people who connect and it takes you from there with life also coming into it.

A sweet story about a man and woman come together after she is left at the alter by another man. But she ends up marrying the she man she danced with once and he could never forget her. Bree Lewandowski brings us a romance with issues that only can be from her mind but shows us how 2 people come together no matter what they have had to face in life. I could feel their emotions and how they struggled to face their own demons. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series and the one after that.

This is the first book by Bree that I've read and I really enjoyed it.
It's well written and I enjoyed the 2 main characters. Kohl, the King's Vizier and Linah, a young woman left standing at the altar. Their trials and tribulations are of epic proportions, as are their devotion and determination to overcome whatever stands in their way. There's a touch of magic in there too. Lovely!
I look forward to reading more!

What a wonderfully written book! This author has s gift for words and weaves so much rich emotion into this story with its masterful narrative and beautifully evocative descriptions. Every joy, every sorrow, every fear, every disappointment felt by Kohl and Linah jumps off the page and grabs the reader’s heart. This is a story of love, redemption and sacrifice and every lover of romance will count themselves blessed to have read it.

What a beautifully written romance. The love story of Linah and Kohl begins in an unconventional way and draws the reader right in from the beginning. The tale is set in an otherworld earth-like environment and told from Linah's viewpoint with periodic inputs from Kohl's perspective. The journey this tale takes you on is adventurous with a bit of mystery that ends in a wondrous way. This book is a wonderful read! (Review edited for spelling)
