Two young women vanish, time-traveling to the age of the Vikings.
Sophie Foster, a rookie cop, vows to find them.
I might be the junior investigator on the force, but I’m not letting two girls disappear without a trace. Alone, I search the quiet forests where they were last seen. As a single mom with a young daughter, this case means more to me than any other, but the trail has gone cold.
Tramping through the snow, I despair. My steps falter and I stumble. In a single, terrifying instant, I tumble through the darkness to another time, deep in the past.
I emerge in an old world, a rugged land, a brutal realm ruled by Vikings.
Ivar, their leader, stands even taller than his men. Powerfully built, with a gaze that could melt arctic frost, he makes my heart race with fear – and desire. His people say he’s the Jarl of Jarls. I say he’s as fierce as a lion. He rescues me from a vicious attack but claims me as his own. When I’m alone with him, his eyes seduce me. His touch leaves me helpless with need. More than anything, I want to belong to him.
But I can’t stay with Ivar no matter how strong his hold on me. I must return to my daughter. I wait for my chance to escape and race back to the modern world. Back to my child.
I never imagined that I was being followed. Not until it was too late.
Ivar, my six and a half-foot tall, Viking warrior, follows me back to the twenty-first century…
Author's Note: 'Ivar' is Book 3 in the Mists of Albion series and it is recommended that you read 'Eirik' (Book 1) and 'Ragnar' (Book 2) first. This book is a full-length 115k word novel and, due to mature scenes and language, is recommended for readers over 18.
Whatever you are doing stop it right now and pick up this series. I fell in love with book one and felt like I had found this special treasure, and book two for me was a no brainer. I read that one when it came out and yet again was captivated hung up on and hooked with book two and this series. So now I am stagily stalking this author and waiting very impatiently for each book to come out. Book three came and I dug right in. This book is slightly different than the previous two but that is just making this series all the more exciting and fresh and new.
I loved this one just as much as books one and two. I wish I could rate this ten stars (at least). Ivar is simply amazing, really amazing doesn't even come close to how I would describe him. Possessive, yes. Demanding, of course he's a viking king. Strong and fierce, of course you didn't even have to ask. I also loved Sophie she's smart and determined. Watching these two people from different times fall in love was great, and seeing Ivar in our time was so funny. This is one of those series you wish you could read all over agin for the first time. I can't wait for the next book...... and next ten book(at least). To be quite honest if this series ends any time soon I will cry.
Also on a side note reading this book really made me appreciate what we have and realize just how much we take for granted. I know this is fictional but how this author wrote what the past had or more accurately din't have really made me pause and think and honestly made me really grateful. I can't recommend this one enough. This series is one of those special books. I can't wait to see what happens next and book four can't come out quick enough.
This book gutted me. I cannot say it was perfect, or that it was satisfying, 'cause it was intense and troublesome, I did not know how the main conflict would be solved, and both main characters were far from perfect, and yet their story was epic, in the best way. Ivar is the toughest Jarl and Sophie is someone with huge tethers to the present, how they navigated time travel was both exciting and sad, and for them all gain comes along with loss. I loved it and hated it as I read, I was in tears and read some of the most beautifully romantic phrases ever. It was an experience!
I finished this yesterday night and couldn't bring myself to review then. Because I was disappointed. And 24 hours later, I still am. I don't doubt that Sophie had important things in the modern time to look after. That she didn't want to transplant her daughter from that world. But having Ivar decide to spend life in the 21st century with her was dumb. Because a man like him, a leader, warrior, etc would have NEVER given that up. Not for a woman, not for anything. That's not how history works. And I don't need 100% historical accuracy, and I understand romance novels do work this way, but I didn't like it.
As a caveat, I also understand that this book was about the Viking giving up his life for his woman, whereas the other 3 in the series are the opposite. I can appreciate that. I just don't believe it.

This is no ordinary 'time travel' romance. This story is extraordinary! The opportunity to experience time BOTH ways, through three different travelers, is amazing. You can literally 'feel' their wonder, their fear, their questions regarding their own sanity. It made for one hell of a read.
Wow!!!!! I have been anxiously awaiting the third book to this series for months now- so much so that I actually stayed up until midnight of the release date so I could start it. Yeah I know.. little obsessive but I wasn’t lucky enough to have been given an early sneak peak like the other reviewers..what can I say. I won’t give you a summary of the book, you can read that yourself in the description. What I will say is.. this was by FAR my favorite of the series-and don’t get me wrong, I love them all. They all have this gritty and realistic texture and tone to them and, for myself anyways, it transports me to another time and world. This book did that and it was even more for me, somehow. Perhaps it was because I’am older and a mother myself and could relate to the heroine of this book more than the other women in the first two books or perhaps it was the hero and his complicated, multifaceted, smoking-sexy self. Or perhaps it was just an incredibly well written book. Each time I think it can’t get better with the next book, I’m proved wrong. In the second book, I had written a praising review but I did comment that I longed for some more action and danger, as well as a different storyline. Something different than how the first two played out and ended...well, it was almost as if J.bell read that and answered my prayers because the action and danger and violence went up about 100 notches and the storyline about 60% in took a complete turn for the unexpected and it was glorious! The action was amazing! I actually had to step away from my kindle a couple times and catch my breath and calm my heart. There were a lot more battles and some scary close calls for the heroine and even the girls from the first two books. The hero was more of an alpha male/bachelor type than the heroes of the first two books. I loved Ragnar in book 2 because he poured his heart out immediately and was a complete softie and I didn’t think any hero following him could compare but ho boy was I wrong! Ivar was ALL male and gruff and possessive and raw, with this wild and restless spirit and though he possessed a relentless (I was floored at some things he did but realized it was a reality back then) and violent side when the time called for it, he had such a good heart with such a deep and soulful side to him. The ending brought tears to my eyes. That man has some depth!! J. Bell has this way of making every character in her books not only brought to life but unique and their absolute own. I hate reading series where every female heroine is the same woman with just a different name and story. I absolutely love the depth of emotions she explores with her characters. They are all so complicated and variable and I finish each book feeling as if I’ll never forget them. I love how she explores the heroines ‘awakening’ while in the 9th century of living a slower life and savoring each moment and letting her own child be a child when/if she ever made it home because it should be a reminder to all of us to slow down and I can say it truly was a reminder to me. It was as if I was on this journey with her and every thought and action was felt deeply. Her describing a deep seated peace with life at the end almost had me feeling it too.Now that is great writing, folks! There were some minor grammatical errors but I’m sure I’ve made some in this review and it never took away from this beautiful and touching story. Joanna bell, please keep this series going! I’ll forever follow and pre order and remain a fan. Highly recommend this book!
:-) Ivar and Sophie: will time and duty tear them apart?!😖 April 10, 2018 Format: Kindle Edition 👍👍This is a fantastic and well-written continuation of Joanna Bell's time travel series that brings commanding Vikings and strong modern women together thanks to a mysterious time portal hidden in rural New York State.
Heroine Sophie is a single mother police woman who can't let go of the mystery of two women friends disappearing from her small town without a trace. Her curiosity and tenacity lead her to solve the mystery, but they also draw her back to Viking-controlled East Anglia. Her fated hero is Jarl Ivar, senior leader of a Viking army preparing to conquer the locals and settle in England.
Both Sophie and Ivar are tied to their own times and their commitments to others. Talk about obstacles to a HEA! It's a dilemma with no easy solution and leads to major angst. But it makes their time together all the more poignant and then there's the heat! This couple has chemistry that just won't stop, even when they are apart. The story conclusion was truly touching and made Ivar all the more appealing. I was also moved by time traveling widow Heather's story of love and loss.
The MCs from the previous two books ( "Eiric" and "Ragnar") are back and it helps to have read at least one of the previous books (I had read "Ragnar" a few months ago), but I don't think it's necessary except to understand why the heroines of the previous stories decided to settle in the past. They are great romances and adventures in themselves, though, so reading the whole series would be my recommendation.
Expect some brutal fight scenes and some attacks on the heroine and her friends as the author incorporates realistic scenes of life in the ninth century world of Viking conquest. I love history and appreciated Bell's diligent description of the Viking world. The only issue I had was the ease with which modern Americans, East Angles and Vikings communicated with each other. Although this was not realistic it made the story flow so I can't really fault it.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Fabulous and touching historic/time travel romance
Joanna Bell's delightful time-travel/Viking historical romance series, Mists of Albion, has another story to tell. Ivar tells the tale of the Jarl of Jarls, the leader of the ninth century Viking invaders of East Anglia. His fate changes when River Falls, NY PD Officer Sophie Foster begins to investigate the disappearance of Page Renner, her family, and her best friend Emma Lewis (stories told in Books 1 and 2). Once again, a wealth of descriptive historical details lends fabulous authenticity to the setting as Sophie first enters the past, meets Jarl Ivar, and gradually comprehends the truth of her situation. Her developing love for the Jarl is secondary to her love for her daughter Ashley, back in the 21st century, and her return to her own time seems inevitable. The Jarl's duties demand that he let her go. He's heading an invasion of conquest, not a mere raid; his people are in East Anglia to stay and need the guidance and protection of the Jarl to learn to live in this hostile conquered land. Sophie and Ivar are responsible for others, bound by love and duty, and miserable without each other. So much happens in this tale of parted lovers and returning prodigals that I can't go into here, but the dramatic tension is off the charts as everyone who knows of the time-travel link is pushed to define, or re-define, for themselves where - and when - their true place in life must be. Author Joanna Bell does as well with character development as she does with historical setting. Ivar, Sophie, and secondary characters new and old emerge as real people, warts and all, and the unique resolution of the parted-lovers dilemma makes for a lovely and poignant HEA. Not every loose end in all the subplots and side stories is tied up, which means there will be a Book 4, and I can't wait. I thank Hidden Gems for the ARC, and my voluntary independent opinion is that Ivar, along with the rest of the series, is simply the best time-travel Viking romance I've ever had the pleasure of reading.
Wow, I adored Eirik and loved Ragnar. This book equals Eirik in the romantic charge and the strong stubborn main characters. The author has a great talent in setting the action, describing perfectly the surroundings and the ways of life on both time. Even if it is a standalone story, it is much recommended to have read the two previous books, as it will give insight of what and who the protagonists will have to deal plus we see again old characters. Nothing is rushed in this book, the first part shows slowly who is Sophie, her strong desire to right what seems wrong to her, her stubbornness to still look for the truth despite the issues she had to face. Ivar as all the Vikings from the series is one of an alpha, and he can’t be less, he is the Jarl of the Jarls, as a kind of king, nothing less is expected from him. So yes, he is haughty, arrogant, proud and commanding but never he disrespected Sophie, of course he acts like a man of his time, but never he treated her badly, they argued a lot, but she was always able to tell him a piece of her mind. I must confess her long denying to accept the fact she was back in time got me sometime bothered, but who I’m to carp at this, after all who knows how I would react if I was in the same situation, I would probably find myself running around screaming with my hands up! I loved Ivar and Sophie interactions, they both have charges which must keep them grounded in their own world, so they try to convince the other to stay but it is no decision to be done by kidnapping or begging, it must be its own choosing. Joanna Bell described perfectly their struggling, their love for each other and their sense of duties. It was a slow paced story, we see the days, months and seasons pass and it is absolutely timed. I can only recommend you to give this book and any other in this series a try. I already have preordered the next one as I’m anxious to learn what was Heather’s life even if I’m sad for what fate had in stock for her.
The 8th Century....Ivar🐺🍆🌋🔪 is the Jarl👑 of Jarls, who leads a thousand Viking ships south to the British Isles. He is leading his men into war against the Angles.
Present day... Sophie💋💃 is a rookie cop🔫 with a daughter. She goes to the Renner property in NY ,to look for clues of the two missing women, a baby and a man. Walking the property in the winter ❄snow, she thinks the circumstances are too strange for it to be a kidnapping. After all, the women and the baby returned, then disappeared again.
Much of the beginning chapters of the book was about Sophie💋💃🔫 trying to find clues to The disappearances. This part of the book made me anxious. It was drug out, and somewhat uninteresting. I wanted to read about the time travel part! Sophie💋💃🔫 is still on administrative leave from her job after she shot a Viking🐺🔪 man who came through the portal and tried to take her back to the past with him. When she shot him in the leg, he went back through, disappearing before her eyes. The police chief thinks she's crazy and puts her on leave. She's been on leave for months now, and winter is over. Maybe someday, Sophie💋💃 will get through the portal. Even then, she's in total denial. The book seemed more about Sophie💋💃 than Ivar🐺🍆🌋🔪. It should have been called Sophie!💋💃Her continued doubt about the validity of her whereabouts and the time period are ludicrous.
ARC Received from HG for a Voluntary and Honest Review. I also got the book📑 with KU.
I have read The other two 📚Books in the series and found them to be similar, but this one is somewhat spicier. Ivar🐺🍆🌋🔪 is fairly long, much longer than most romance novels, because of all the beginning chapters devoted to Sophie. Ivar🐺🍆🌋🔪 didn't come into the picture until chapter 8.
*I voluntarily read this book. All opinions stated are solely my own and no one else's*
Ivar is the third book in the Mist of Albion Series and can be read as a stand-alone. I’ve read all three books, enjoying every single one and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend the series.
The author changed things up in this latest instalment and I definitely liked it because it gave the story a different twist.
The beginning was slow paced and I have to admit, it took me a while to get into this one. The pace fluctuated throughout but when it slowed down that’s when I felt like everything was dragging on too much but I persevered because the story was absolutely worth it.
Sophie was everything a heroine should be: strong, independent and opinionated. Ivar was arrogant, headstrong and fierce. Ivar accepts his feelings for Sophie without question. However, the rest unfolded slowly, as each character had to overcome their own issues; to determine where their heart was content and whom their ultimate duty was too.
The author captured both characters conflicted emotions perfectly. Sophie and Ivar had great chemistry and I enjoyed the push/pull between.
My heart was pounding a few times and not in a good way either. The story was emotional and Sophie and Ivar’s love shined brightly throughout. Catching up with Paige and Emma was an added bonus too.
I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I would recommend reading the first 2 books in this series before starting this one. Although it gives enough backstory for the book to make sense when it comes to the main characters, it would be better understood when read in order. This was not my favorite of the three Mists of Albion books. I love Ivar and his choices, as well as Sophies choices but I wish it would of ended differently. Sophie, being a great mom, surprised me by not trying to escape much quicker than she did. I didn't think she would let that much time go by without seeing her daughter. Her morals were really tested when it came to seeing how people in the past lived. Now Ivar....not only was he a complete alpha, but the Jarl of Jarls. I mean that rescue...seriously! One of the things I love the most about these Vikings is that once they realize their feelings they are sure to let it show!
💎I am honestly and voluntarily reviewing an Advanced Reader’s Copy of this book from Hidden Gems💎 I’ve not read anything by Joanna Bell nor am I a huge fan of the time travel genre, but what a great read. Ivar is a jarl in the 9th century and Sophie is a single mom and a cop in the 21st century. She falls into his time, into his arms, and needs to get back to her daughter. Ivar is what you would expect, a powerful alpha and Sophie is an equally strong modern woman on a mission. How their relationship grows, how it survives, and how it maneuvers through time is a roller coaster of a read. I’m thankful I have a subscription to KU, I can read the other 3 books in the Mists of Albion series for free. You’ve hooked me Joanna Bell!
The best in the series to date! This is an action packed well researched romance adventure. Ivar is totally alpha but tender, it sounds like a contradiction in terms but Bell really makes it work. The action/rescue scenes make you believe your right there in person. Sophie is strong and independent yet kind ...perfect for Ivar...they are magic together. Did I mention that the romance is steamy (hot)? This book gave me the feels several times but was "It is as it is", and the ending left me happy but also a bit melancholy. Can't wait for Heather's story and I hope Bell intends to write many more in this series because I'm now hooked!
4 1/2 ⭐️’s
I was given a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
Honestly it's a great story. It flows so well you don't want to set it down, you read it from beginning to end. Her characters are authentic and she writes each one with so much personality an emotion you can practically feel them. Each scene is described so vividly, and in such detail throughout the book, you're able to picture it in your mind as clearly as if you were looking at it. The story offers everything that you could want, and I have very much enjoyed reading the series. Once again, my only disappointment is that the book needs to be edited. I still recommend reading the series and doing it in order so that you can truly enjoy the characters and the storyline. Happy Reading!
I have to admit that I'm disappointed with this 3rd book. I like the story line but there were way to many holes for me to give more than a 3 star rating.
***SPOILER below***
How come Sophie, a police officer, did not know hand to hand self defense? This is something she would have learned in the police academy.
How come Sophie never showed any concern for Emma after getting assaulted? It was completely ignored.
How come Sophie didn't care much about Ivar for a few days after he was shot and in the hospital?
What happened to Ivar's sword? I can't believe he wouldn't ask about it and want it back.
Not enough about Ivar's state of mind in the end. It's hard for me to believe he wouldn't have been unhappy about being idle.
This is a great series. I love the characters, so strong and resilient. The males are pure alpha's. This is the story of Sophie, a police officer for the River Falls police department, who is searching the woods for Emma, the latest to go missing under strange circumstances connected to the Renner property. She is confronted by a large man dressed in curds shouting at her to come with him. When he doesn't stop, she shoots him which puts her in trouble with her boss because she can't find his body anywhere yet evidence shows she had fired her gun and there was blood on the ground. That's just the beginning of the story, it moves fast from there.
a truly gripping time travel romance story with an arrogant alpha Viking and a strong opinionated NYPD officer each overcoming their own issues to get to love. Joanna Bell has a very engaging writing style which draws one into the setting flawlessly moving from the present to the past. The book has it all: heartfelt swoon-worthy moments, sexy alpha heroes, feisty heroines, and happy endings... Can't wait to read the next installment. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I was truly touched by Ivars experiences, I have never heard a time travel story told like this, I was truly touched by the beauty of the climax and ending. I actually got choked up, My one complaint was that Sophie didn't really act like a police officer, They have to have some self defense skills., She just acted like any other woman would. I wish she had used some of her police tactics on some of the bad buys. I did wonder why Heather and Maria’s Grandma didn’t remember each other. I do wonder what happened to Renner property where the portal was.
I've been waiting for this book to appear & Joanna Bell did not disappoint. Again she has created a Viking that steals your heart. It is recommended that you read the previous 2 books before reading this one as it helps to know some of the history which leads to this story. While it was a little slow to start, this story kept me wondering which direction it was going in & I loved the twists that came with it. I won't mind reading this story again, the same as I have with both Eirik & Ragnar.
If time travel, strong alpha vikings, and equally strong determined woman are your thing, then you will love this book. I suggest you start at the beginning though to fully emerge yourself into this beautifully constructed world. So start with Eirik, Ragnar then Ivar. This story is wonderfully written, filled to the brim with beautifully developed characters, and a storyline that will have you ignoring the "real" world until you reach the last page.
I know she has a reason but I didn't like that you couldn't feel the love from her side, he is so loving. She wasn't even fretting about him when he was in the hospital hurt and confused. I was waiting to see what happend to his sword in the future, but it wasn't mentioned. I missed the bonding of Ivar with her daughter. Ivar seems so lost in the future I really love the family that she creates for herself in the end.

I was disappointed in this read. The three books I have read felt a little bit like a copy and paste. I wouldn’t be able to differentiate the MCs if compared. I had higher hopes for this as I thought Sophie would be a stronger female lead, but turns out she was just another damsel in distress. Also, I didn’t relate to her as a mom and felt it was unrealistic for the way she acted when away from her kid.

As per all Bell's books, I really enjoyed this book. We follow Sophie, a police officer, who is still trying to solve the disappearance of Paige and Emma. She finds herself back 1000+ years ago as a captive of Ivar. I loved both characters and their discovery of their love. I loved the juxtaposition of the discovery of old and new things. Just such a well done book. Well-balanced and believable story with lovely characters.
Wow!! What a beautiful love story between Ivar and Sophia. Ivar for man to leave everything and everyone behind to stay in an unknown world for a woman in my eyes is a true man and is rarely seen today. Sophia true woman in my eyes as well not telling Ivar about the pregnancy and not using it for her gain. I recommend reading this book and the whole series.
Great story with 2 people of different times and a man's love is enough to leave his for her. I only wish it told of his missing sword, since they talked about a woman knife and future. Look forward to the next story of this series.
This time travel series is one of the best I’ve read so far! Maybe it’s because I love Vikings so much... That’s beside the point, ha! Serially, this series surprised me and really drew me in! You should read it! You won’t be disappointed!
This amazing story of love, passion and intriguing drama was definitely a truly unique and compelling read. The characters were compellingly charming and brilliantly portrayed by the author who weaved a tale that everyone is sure to want to read.
