Kim has done it again! She has managed to tell a great story and teach biblical principles at the same time. She continues to follow the lives of our old favorites and lets us see more of some of our new favorites. I love that she has no perfect characters, not even Cyd (shocker because I thought she was a near saint!). It means I can relate to them on a real level. This books delves into temptations- falling into them and guarding against them. And she covers it masterfully. This was another can't -put-it-down-I'll-just-read-one-more-chapter books from Kim. My only complaint (if you can call it that) is that she still hasn't created the much requested Bible study series out of the sermons and Bible study sessions from this series. I keep referring back to the teachings in this series (and really all of her books) because they are just SO GOOD! Oh and for those reading this series, let me say I am #teamtommyandjillian! Looking for more of them in the next book.

Loved this book. This is one of the best Christian fiction series I have read. Relatable situations and struggles along with God's love & Word throughout. I hope there will be more to come from this series...anticipating reading about the Lance movie, Jillian & Tommy; Jordyn & Jesse; Jade, Sophie, Hope, and Joy.

BEST novelist!

Kim Cash Tate has quickly become my FAVORITE contemporary novelist... not just Christian novelist, but novelist, on general. I'm an avid reader, so beyond seeking a good story line, I'm always looking for a story that "reads well." I could go on and on about the plots of her stories... how they are relevant, strong, enlightening, convincting, etc... NEVER have I read a series of Christian books that flows so well, that's kept me laughing and crying, and, ultimately, challenges me and causes me to draw closer to Jesus. I'm so grateful for the wisdom and TRUTH revealed through these characters. Only Holy Spirit could inspire such writing, and I'm grateful to be a recipient of this ministry.

And she does it again. I cannot comprehend how a story can pull at my heart so much. All I can say if my walk with God is growing and stretching because of the real life application these books have. Cannot wait for the 4th instalment.

I begin by saying hats off to Kim Cash Tate. She has written another story that draws you into the pages of her book. I loved this book as much as I loved the first two Promises of God novels, maybe even more so, because it really resonated for the time I'm in.
I enjoy that her books feel almost like she's thrown some bible study in there somewhere. Each time I have to get my bible and notebook and take notes, seriously! But after reading her bio and seeing that she is a bible teacher it is fitting. ;). Oh how I would love to be in one of the services when Pastor Lance taught bible study. How awesome would it have been to sit and learn under Pastor Lyles. I miss him and I know he wasn't real. This is just how much you get drawn into her characters and their lives.
I especially liked that they are all flawed people. At each stage, long-time saved, newly-saved, striving to be saved, unsaved and the not there yet, each person dealt with real life issues. No one was too good and no one was exempt temptation. As the title says "When I'm Tempted" not "if" because we will all be tempted that's life. She showed how even the strong get drawn and enticed . She showed how we have been given the power to resist if we choose. She even showed how God can change even the hardened heart.
I can't wait for the next book! The only little issue I had was we need the sequels sooner. There are so many characters and so many stories, too much time in between means it takes longer to sort everyone out. You may have to visit the previous book to refresh your memory of who is who.

Very enriching, inspiring, educational read!

The characters in this novel are VERY real. It’s like you & your sisters are on this quest to live purposefully and passionately for God. He surrounds our lives with good things and good people. It is up to us to capitalize on those fruit of the spirit moments. I love how this author brings a real-life issue, then wash it in the water of the Word! God truly has answers & promises for every issue known to man! Amazing job Kim Cash Tate! Now I have to go back through to write down this highlights! I do not want anything from this novel to be wasted. My heart is encouraged & my faith is renewed! My heart is definitely refreshed with new-found hope. Wonderfully amazing!!!

Every book I read by Kim Cash Tate is better than the one I read before it. Though considered works of fiction, her books are so true to life. They are ministry, indeed, in Christ Jesus. I am blessed and helped with every book I read. I appreciate her ministry. I am grateful for what God spoke to me and confirmed to me through the reading of this book. I praise God for my Sister (Shakealia) blessing me with a set of Kim Cash Tate books. That is what started this journey. Glory to God!!

This is my introduction to Kim Cash Tate, and I really loved how seemlessly and naturally this story flowed. All the characters were fully developed and the scenarios and dialogue felt REAL, which means more because of how well Tate is able to tie everything back to faith in Christ. I’ve never read a Christian-based fiction novel before, but this one piqued my interest and was honestly way better than I could have expected, and leaves a meaningful impact. The message I walked away with is none of our walks are perfect, and each of ours looks different at different times, but the important thing to do regardless of where you are in life at any given time is to remain steadfast in your faith in God. And to maintain relationship with him always. But I appreciate that Tate doesn’t attempt to get that message across by beating you across the head with it. Instead, she crafted a fully-developed cast of characters and storylines that that you can feel without thinking too hard.

It was such an enjoyable read. I actually read this mistakenly out of order, not knowing this was the 3rd book in the series. No wonder I was getting so confused with all the names and wondering why there was little to no introduction for the characters — which would’ve been my only complaint before I realized. Now that I know, I’m eager to go back and read the first and second novels, and eventually the fourth.

Dynamic story lines

I read all for 4 books beginning March 18-24, 2018. My girlfriend, Jennifer Boyd, asked 3 of us to read for Easter dinner. Once I started reading “Though I Stumble,” I couldn’t put it down. The storylines are so real!!! Being a Social Worker and teaching “Building a Stronger Prayer Life” at my church, I heard and witness so many stories about relationships and family dynamics and how God moved in spite of our own insecurities and lack of knowledge for the Word of God. Each family’s storyline continues to build throughout the series. I also like how you introduced additional characters as the series continued. It was very easy to keep abreast of each character/families. I am pleased to see the honesty of each character and how the men were incorporated into the stories. I’m waiting the next book!!! Everyone, please support this woman of God!!! I pray that Jesus Christ continues to give you wisdom, knowledge and a writer's flow to place your thoughts into a book for your fans.

This is the third of the 3-book A Promises of God series I've read. So, you know I've enjoyed them to have read the full series. Kim Cash Tate delivers stories that resonate with readers who are living as Christians and navigating their lives in faith. The characters are endearing and familiar. Their journeys captured my heart, so much that when I finished a book, I was ready to open the next one to continue the adventure. Of course, the last book was the most difficult to end.

Adding to my interest was the primary location for the books was my hometown, St. Louis. So the references to places there were familiar. Apparently Tate lives in the city. Her biography states she is an attorney by training. As an author of these novels, she shines.

As I increasingly turn to books I consider fun, light reads, this book and its series predecessors perfectly fit the bill. It was a delightful diversion, even though it had a few disturbing developments as the story mirror life's challenges. Yet, it also was full of uplifting events and a healthy dose of inspirational scripture.

W.I.T. was Everything!

Kim Cash Tate did her thing with this one! Each novel has gotten better and better. She brought back Treva and Lance and fleshed out their back story. Each character was explored and there was nothing uncovered. She introduced new characters, Cinda and Alonzo which was a treat.

The cast of characters were flawed, broken, messy, and tempted. In this novel, like in reality, the characters fall from grace and ask for forgiveness. We live in a sinful world and we strive to be righteous on a daily basis and God with his limitless grace gives us chance after chance. There was no one who was not tempted at some level.

Once I read a few pages, I was hooked, line and sinker! I would recommend this book to anyone is wanting an authentic read with a taste of humor and faith-based reality.

Wow!

God has really used Kim in this book to teach me many lessons! I love the rawness in this story - the characters have pointed to the working power of the Spirit in the lives of believers. One thing that has stuck with me was Lance's message to remember God and fight! I've learnt how merciful and faithful God is. Its because of the character of God that I'm able to fight in prayer. Praying that the many truths in this story may encourage us believers to thank God for His grace and to continue to pray for His grace to endure. And for those who don't know the saving power of our Lord Jesus Christ, that God may stir their hearts to see their need for the Saviour Christ. Highly recommend this book!

Excellent book and series, it gets better and better with each book!

This is more than a great novel, it's a great ministry tool. I loved the discussion questions at the end of the book, the Bible scriptures, and the prayers. Each character reflected real-life scenarios that everyone, not just Christians, face in everyday life. I loved that each book in the series presents the gospel message and the redemption of the winner is beautifully displayed. I saw myself in this series and I'm about to begin the last book. I'm already a bit sad that I'm coming to the end. I wonder if the Bible studies mentioned in the series are actually available for purchase? I would definitely recommend and purchase them, as well as sign up for that women's conference.

Page-turning, engaging, great dialogue, wonderful family/friend dynamic with the characters, who are all flawed and real, but struggling to do right and be men and women of God. This is Book 3 in a series, but I had very little trouble keeping the characters straight and didn't feel lost at all (even though, as much as I liked it, now I DO wish I'd started with Book 1). Really, in the best way, this book was like a Bible Study in a novel. So many biblical truths about temptation: that it WILL come, and how we handle it when it does is key. This was my first book by Kim Cash Tate and I look forward to more!

As always, super super blessed by Kim Cash Tate.

I have become very invested in the stories of each character. Her writing is such a blessing to me as someone who is Black, woman, and Christian. In a society where it’s hard to find books that truly capture the beautiful intersections of these identities, Kim Cash Tate does time and time again. I’ve yet to find her books predictable, boring, or unrelatable.

When I’m tempted is beautifully as well as powerfully written. The book captures the ease of temptation and the many forms that come! I appreciated her weaving it throughout that narrative but then ending it with powerful verses from scripture to empower/solidify her point.

I love Kim’s ability through the anointing to be an excellent storyteller. Real life situations. I feel like her books can honestly be made into a movie and I can picture every actor/actress that should star in in just by the descriptive personalities in each novel. I’m so hooked on her writing. Any novel that can bring me tears of sadness, conviction and followed by tears of joy all in one novel is worth reviewing!!! I have followed these characters from the beginning and it never grows old because she introduces new characters, new situations but God is always God. Blessings to Kim and I pray God’s anointing is never compromised in your life.

Book 3 of the series picks up where it left off and this time the theme is “temptation” - much of it being temptation of the flesh.

The start of the book definitely shook me! Just like book 2, I was not prepared. I really hate how the story turned like this especially for the characters / family involved.

My favorite characters and storyline is definitely Alonzo and Cinda, with Lance and Treva a close second! The way Alonzo loves on Cinda is everything! I was a big fan of Lance’s story as well and his journey as a pastor. He is deserving! Tommy and Jillian also pulled my heartstrings too but they definitely pushed the limit in some scenes (again temptation). I hope the author explores more with them in the next book.

Despite the overall theme of the book, it felt that everyone was challenged by the thought of temptation so much where it felt redundant. I kept thinking how much overlap there was in relationships - like how are all these people so comfortable with getting involved with mutual significant others!? It was a bit over board and felt forced in the story.

I enjoyed the story with the positive message but it is probably #3 out of the first 2 in the series.

All kinds of temptation!!

What I liked about this book was the spiritual journey the author took the characters through. What I disliked were too many characters that took me a few chapters to pulled them altogether.
This is a great book for any book club to read and discuss.
I always feel drawn into this author’s work as though I’m in church because of church issues and how she incorporates scriptures and really a short sermon.
I only gave 4 stars because of so many characters for me to keep up with.
Great read!!

More than fiction

When I'm Tempted is a great read. The author approaches the subject of temptation from a practical yet entertaining perspective. From the opening chapter to the closing scenes, the reader experiences an emotional roller coaster filled with tears and laughter. More importantly, the author is a great teacher. Each story line is richly developed with scripture. Also the book not only deals with temptation but puts on display the beauty of godly intimacy. I strongly recommended this book.

I loved this series. This book to me was the best. However, it left me with so many questions. Like what happened after Pamela was released, there was no more mention of her. What happened with Alonzo’s career and the movie about Lance? How did Living Word feel about Lance being voted senior Pastor? Jesse and Jordyn? Jade? 🤷🏾‍♀️ So many cliff hangers. I need more. Just one more book to answer these questions. I will say reading this series has opened my eyes to the promises of God! It also had me highlighting scriptures and praying for an escape when I’m tempted.

Love this book

In New to this author but I fell in love from the very first read. These book in the trilogy express the many struggles Christian's face are the same for non believers. The enemy is very crafty when throwing temptation. I can relate to Jillian in this book due to same heart wrenching circumstances. I'm healing and everyday is a struggle but I'm praying for continued strength for me and my family. These are giving me an inner piece of knowing we will be ok. Thanks.

Temptation and Triumph

I loved seeing the crew overcome and learn from the temptation and test thrown their way. This author has a way of encouraging you to push through the tough times in your life by her characters’ situations. This book ministered to me, and I love the practical lessons revealed in it. I hope there’s more in store for Jillian, Tommy, Jessie, Jordyn and crew. I can tell there’s more brewing.😉
