Betrayed. Broken. Poisoned.

No longer alone, Sam and Alec struggle to find time to continue their studies together. Sam knows that she is more than the lowborn she'd long believed, now living and training in the palace, but still doesn't feel as if she quite fits in. Worse, it seems as if Alec has moved on without her, preferring his new life in the university.

Alec has quickly risen in rank, but that only draws attention to him. Learning from master physickers has its benefits, but there are dangers and he's not certain whether he can trust the new friends he's made. Evidence continues to mount of a conspiracy within the university, and it's one he'll need Sam's help in understanding.

While Alec tries to reach out to Sam, she searches for Marin and answers that might unlock her full potential. What she finds instead is a threat to the safety in the city, protections that have long prevented the Thelns from reaching Verdholm, if they haven't already breached them.

Together, they are the key to stopping Marin, but can they master their new places in the city in time?

I’m becoming addicted!

I think I’m becoming addicted to this series. I don’t think I can stop at this one. I must have more. So many plot twists in this one you just can’t predict what is going to happen next. Alec and Sam have some relationship issues I think are due to their lack of experience and low self confidence in that department, but I’m hoping they can iron things out eventually. Plus I am curious to find out the truth about their parents. Also the city has become so messed up I’m hoping Mr. Holmberg can resolve it soon. So many surprises, so little time, so much more delicious reading to digest!

Good storyline..interesting read

The characters are consistent you are left wanting to know more..lot of things still unexplained .I will buy the next book..new characters being introduced and of course a romantic element .I wish I could choose my own word count..I would write more reviews...Amazon should consider changing this feature

I thought this book was ok. I had a tough time getting through the middle of the book when Sam and Alex's relationship took a turn when he started attending the university. I pushed through to the end to see what would happen to them, since they seem to grow apart. The ending wasintense! Had me on the edge of my seat to see what would happen! You read it and see what you think!

Wonderful book as are the rest of the ones from this author. Very much a page turner as it kept me in until the very end where yet another cliffhanger led me to crave the next book.
