Owning Their Pet

Rate this book
In this world, there are owners and there are pets.

When twenty-year-old village girl Melsint is purchased for use as a pet by Lord Evston Calex, she soon discovers that she will be shared with his brother, Commander Rocurt Calex. Her strict new owners quickly make clear that they plan to take their beautiful, virgin pet hard and often and they will not hesitate to punish her harshly for even the slightest hint of defiance.

Despite her shame at being treated as mere property, Melsint cannot hide her response to their painful, humiliating chastisements and rough, demanding use of her body. But as her training grows more intense by the day, she is left to wonder if she will ever be more than just a pet.

Publisher's Note: Owning Their Pet is a stand-alone book which is the first entry in the Owned and Shared series. It includes spankings and sexual scenes. If such material offends you, please don't buy this book.

5 STARS!

Yeah, you read that right . . . 5 stars!

Feel free to judge me, lol, but as a hard-core smut read, Owning Their Pet had it all:
✔ very decent writing
✔ a decent story that wd qualify as romance
✔ wall-to-wall kink/bdsm
✔ mfm menage
✔ s&m that didn't get too violent
✔ attempts to consider emotional impact of said bdsm
I couldn't think of a single reason to lower my rating, so I'm not going to. :D

Note: I don't know if I've just become desensitized over the years, but I didn't find the 'pet play' overdone or distasteful. (Yes, I know, sometimes I worry about me too.)

I've already read the other books in the series:
Book 1: 5 STARS
Book 2: 3 STARS
Book 3: 4 STARS
Book 4: 4 STARS

And I'll definitely read more by this author when the mood strikes.

Happy reading, my smutty friends!

Having lost her father early in life and now trying to help her aunt & mother support her siblings, Melsint makes a decision to contract as a pet knowing the money paid for her services will keep her family secure. What Melsint hasn't told her guardians is that it's personal as she's heard about being a pet from a good friend and feels she was always meant for this lifestyle.

Lord Evston Calex feels it's time to buy a new pet. Getting word about a newly tested virgin female candidate, he makes an appointment to meet up with the girl to assess if she would be a good fit for him and his household. It doesn't take long to realize he wants her and is willing to pay top dollar to contract her, he even goes so far as to offer a bonus to entice her to accept.

Melsint is about to learn that Lord Calex is a stickler for details and plans to hold her to all terms of the contract unconditionally.

A new author/new series (?) with a SciFi menage erotic romance format. I was debating whether the world building was of a dystopian society vs a SciFi fantasy society with the end result that there are rich and poor in all societies with this inclusive of that premise.

This is the kind of book you buy for the smut factor only to be surprised that there is actually a viable story line that readers will enjoy. I highly debate that the 'dark' tag is appropriate as the only elements that might apply here are the BDSM/spanking/menage scenes. For me I didn't find 'dark' to apply.

The story is highly slanted with BDSM scenes that include impact play, anal, and some voyeurism. The actual erotica stays between the main characters though if that is a concern for any potential readers. To add, the erotica scenes (imho) focus more on the mechanical aspects than the emotional or psychological aspects, if you know what I mean.

The cast of secondary characters were more of the cameo appearance sort of thing. Their value was only to provide additional cast to support the main characters vs having secondary characters who were independent individuals who interacted and added value to the story and world building itself. I am intrigued regarding the possible follow up story regarding one of these characters though

My issues include the fact that the character lacked defining consistency and depth. This detracted from having a firm grasp on the motivations and consequences of various parts of the story. Non-spoiler example: dear old dad's influence is cited but in a vague brief manner that had me questioning if that should even have been included in the story. This would have been a more rounded complete story if more focus had been placed on world building than the actual BDSM.

There are pros and cons to this story that have me on the fence recommending it. For SciFi fans who look for master/pet (as opposed to pet play) BDSM dynamics this is a story that might scratch that itch. Additionally, the menage (mfm) action does add that variable in scenes. The only caution I have is that the story line itself might be problematic for the hard core SciFi action-adventure aficionados

Book borrowed through the Kindle Unlimited programme.

This was actually much better than I expected. The character development was perhaps a little lacking and most were fairly typical of the genre, but I did still like them. There was the young and naive Milsent, the suave Master Evston and the forbidding Master Rocurt. He was the huge surprise and was the character who made this story work.

The plot was a little different to the run-of-the-mill and gave this a more consensual non-consent feel. Ideal if you aren't comfortable with darker reads or just dipping your toes in the water. It's also a pretty hot read without being tacky or sleazy.

I liked the unusual take on the shared aspect and loved how this ended. It's definitely made me interested in reading more work by this author.

Romantic Pet Play!

I love pet play. It can be difficult to find one both erotic and well written, but this book definitely succeeded!!
The story is fantastic. The world fleshed out well as the story progressed without the info being fed to the reader in a boring info dump. The banter between characters was entertaining and sometimes downright amusing and funny in its wit.
The kink/pet play was not hard core, but not too light; it’s more a lifestyle for them, which I enjoy.
There’s romance in this story and a HEA, so I thoroughly enjoyed the read.

Had a little bit of confusion on this one since the Goodreads name is Owning their Kitten and the Amazon name is Owning Their Pet but after some checking back and forth I'm pretty sure it's the same book, perhaps renamed at some point. This is a fun lighthearted erotic story that’s chock full of spankings and sex.

The story is set in a sci-fi context, some planet, with no real defined era. The bits of sci-fi that come in are fairly sparse but actually really intriguing I wish we’d learned a bit more how this world works because it seems like a lot of fun. The story is about a young girl, just 20, which is apparently slightly under the age of consent there as she needs consent from her guardians, who signs up to be a pet. She has to take a bunch of tests to make sure she fits the approval, which we don’t get a lot of detail about, and then she passes. She’s purchased by a pair of brothers—one is a Lord the other a Military commander.

Her family objects but they are poor, and she wants to help with the payment she’ll get for being a pet, which is a kind of BDSM slave/sub type position. I found the petplay parts a lot of fun, and at times there is a bit of an ageplay feel as well. I liked that she was allowed to pout a bit and express herself and neither of her masters come down brutally for it. They are a mix of indulgent and strict, and the one you expect to be the mean one ends up being the one to spoil her.

I noticed some of the reviews complained that there wasn’t enough plot, but it didn’t bother me much. I felt there was enough plot to carry it, but from the start it was obviously more about the BDSM and sex than a story, so I wasn’t expecting it to be plot heavy. It was very well written, very well edited, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

I did not find this such a dark story. Their pet was sweet and accommodating. Her master's loving and possessive.

Melsint has deep submissive desires, so going into servitude, not only helps her family, but also fills her needs. It is very light on actual petplay. The book concentrates mostly on the relationship between Melsint and the Calex brothers and their love for playing. Sparks were certainly flying.

I liked Melsint, she was innocent, but very open to trying everything. And I loved how she responded to each of the brothers.

It was a fun, sexy quick read.

I received this book from Stormy Night Publications as an advance review copy

A dark and sexy, kinky kind of romance novel, this book has a certain kind of dark depravity that you think you're ready for, I thought I was ready for it, but dang, there are some parts that push the envelope just a little bit far. To make up for that though, there's the commander and Melly's special connection, she gets him, and he needs her, so it's like this inner romance in the middle of a BDSM sharing thing that is wicked hot but wicked sweet at the same time. I know, that's confusing as heck, but once you read it, you'll get it too, lol! I read these out of order, and I know that I read this in the past, but my review disappeared. I hope this one stays. I'm going to re-read the next one now too, even though I read it first and have already left a review for it, but I have KU, so I can roll like that. Start anywhere, just check out this series!

The smut in here was a little too bdsm for my personal tastes, but I usually like the human pet trope. I felt uncomfortable that the HEA was with one of the masters and not both although it was leaning that way from about the halfway point.

Sadistic much?

First and Foremost the author is very talented. I felt a lot of what the heroine was going through. And I was at times outraged on her behalf. We kittens have to stick together. The story provides a fascinating world to discover. Before becoming a Pet, a candidate goes to a screening center/training center. Then eventually they negotiate a contract to be a wealth man’s pet. In this case two men. But I did not find these men to be equal. One clearly has feelings for the pet, while the other did not. This created an array of emotions within both the character and myself. For sure! Evston(what a d bag name honestly I couldn’t remember how to spell it) has real issues with the way Melsint is being pampered by Rocort-apparently he’s never heard the term pampered pet-he needs to meet my dog. At times Evston is the greater sadist because he’s into verbal humiliation and more about keeping his pet in her proper place. Rocort was the more swoon worthy character for me; he’s brutish with a soft spot for his kitten =^..^= meowers likes this. Apparently this reader needs caring and possessiveness in her sadistic doms. There were a few instances for me where the scenes were not a turn on because my mind struggled to understand how they could be a turn on for Melsint due to their brutality or excess humiliation-something failed to come across or translate well(again this is just me if you like sadism here it is:) i genuinely thought she was going to be hurt, have something vital rip, like ouch!!
Overall, I was really pulled into the story and wanted to know how it ended. I needed to know how this couple could achieve a happy ending against the rules of their society. I want to read another of the authors books to get a better feel for her style.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Loved it! I really enjoyed reading this book. The characters, the story, the world-building, the writing, everything was wonderful.

This book was very interesting to read because for the first time in a really long time neither I had any idea what would happen from chapter to chapter, nor would I have ever guessed the end. I’ve read so many romance books that usually I can guess pretty well where the plot would go and how it would end. Here, my every guess was wrong. And the end was so unexpected, I thought it could be anything else but this. But it was a very good surprise. I was so clueless how the things came to be the way they were in the end that I had to look through the book again from the beginning to see if there were any foreshadowing or clues of any kind. Yes, there were the clues but they were so subtle that I would have never guessed while reading it the first time that they were actually the clues for the things to come and to see how the characters feel.

Oh, and during the entire book, I was playing a game “Guess Who Is The Evil One” because I usually root for the evil character. I had two wonderful contenders, and every chapter I asked myself the above question, and it changed every time. And, when I got to the very end of the book, I was so surprised by the events there that it didn’t matter to me that I couldn’t answer my own question even then. 😈😇😈 or 😇😇😈 or 😇😇😇? 🤷🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️

I discovered this book while searching for something new on Kindle Unlimited the other day and decided to check it out.

Owning Their Pet is a super kinky book! There is plot, but the book is certainly more heavily focused on physical intimacy than story development.

I thought that this book would be a MfM romance, with equal time given to each of the brothers, but there was one who definitely had more page time. No further details in case of a spoiled ending ;)

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, and the ending was not what I initially expected from reading the synopsis online. I plan to read the "companion book" (technically, they are considered standalones but take place in the same world), as well. However, I do wish that the author had taken extra time to further the plot and character development as well. For me, it is so important to be able to envision a fully functioning society, especially for stories that take place in alternate universes.

Melsint believes that she is doing the right thing. She wants to help out her family and being a pet seems the easiest way. It is only for 60 days. Her Aunt can come get her when Mel wishes. But nothing is as simple as that. Evston and his brother Rucurt take an interest in Mel but more so Rucurt.

I have to say that as much as there is a “pet” aspect to the story, Mel actually is treated beyond that. Ruc definitely sees more from her. He strays more away from the rules that you never really read about. I thought Evs would have mentioned them in the beginning but he never has. And I really would like to know what they are. You think that Evs would be more the lead but nope, he handled the business aspect of things. Though Ruc is the warrior/military side with strength, you see he soft side and compassion. I have to say I do love the turn in the story. It is a “Happily Ever After.” The story does end with a lead in to the next one, “Taken by the Warriors.”

So this seems to be a pretty common formula these days: A young (at least semi)-innocent young woman ends up in the hands of 2 or more big bad Alpha Alien Dudes.

This one breaks the formula a couple of ways: 1) They are all from the same home planet and 2) They don't instantly form an unbreakable bond between them.

Marlee is heavy into Pet Play. It doesn't detract from the book but it is definitely a running theme.

Basically a lot of the rich and powerful people on the planet used to keep young women as pets. Traditionally these were slaves. Somewhere along the way Slavery ended but the pet thing did not. So now they take "volunteers" - who are usually economically disadvantaged young ladies who pass the screening process. It isn't intended to be permanent and there is a cash reward at the end. Having Melsint be 20 and still having to her Mother's approval was an interesting twist.

I really didn't anticipate the ending or exactly where the next two books were headed.

Owning their Pet is the first in a series of five under the sub-title 'Owned and Shared'. It features Melsint, a girl who sells herself as a submissive 'pet' to the powerful and all-dominant Calex brothers, Evston and Rocurt, who enjoy her alone and together. It is set on another world/another galaxy/another time and so is a sci-fi fantasy. Aside from that?
It is brilliant! Characters who you will believe in and care about - an aspect which raises this above a lot of works in this genre - and graphic scenes of sex and punishment that will make your thighs rub together. Very hot, very very hot! Melsint is adorable, the Calex men compelling and so demanding, and the ending is delightful.
On re-reading, I adored it all over again!

A intriguing si-fi tale!

A intriguing tale of a future world where young women and men are sold by their families to the wealthy to obtain a better way of life for themselves. For the most part this book was filled with just pure sexual fantasy, and that's what I'm sure it was intended to be. But there is a definitely underlying story beneath all the smutt. The differences in the classes of humanity and how the wealthy mistreat the less privileged. I don't particularly feel that this was a romance in any shape or form but as all these books are written for purely adult entertainment nothing more nothing less. And as that saying goes the author achieved her goal.

Ok read, just not my cup of tea!

I've read books which touched on episodes of dominance and submission before but they weren't the main thrust of the romantic tales. Though well-written and very intriguing, stirring my imagination with fascinating descriptive passages, this book still fell short of really pulling me into the story. I just couldn't reach the height of enjoyable participation in the narrative as I've done with many other stories of romance and intrigue. I certainly recommend this writer's work to anyone who can!

Melsint knew she wanted to be owned... Be a submissive pet. Yes, it was to help her family. But in the deepest part of her, she really wanted to be a pet, to serve, for herself. But when Lord Calex bought her, she had no idea she was in over her head. Oh how I loved this book. Melsint was perfect... her spirit, her struggle to submit. And what she finds and where the story takes her and us is the most delicious surprise. 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

Here, kitten

Rounded up from a 3.75

This was my first Marlee Wray book, but it won't be my last. I enjoyed the book and the characters. Melsint really knew what she was and what she wanted. She had no problems fighting with her family for her desires.

The only thing I didn't like was the strange words for time. It was jarring and didn't flow well for me. That's just me though.

MFM pet play

I chose this for the menage aspect and not really the pet play. Although, the pet play part was pretty much absent apart from her eventually wearing a tail.
I found this a bit ridiculous in parts and it annoys me when authors think the Masters should speak like they've got a stick up their bottoms!
There was no 'dark' just repetitive kink. Not even much of a story to it and ending as expected. Quite dull.

One Pet, Two Masters

Kitten sells herself to help her siblings and family. But she also recognizes a submissive trait within herself. She agrees to remain after her trial period. But things change after Rourct admits that he loves her. Even after all the rough play and all the spankings, she loves him deeply. This is for adults only, plus a beautiful love story. I recommend this book with a full heart ❤.

I absolutely loved this story. Pet play is one of my favorite genres but it has to be done right. Ms. Wray got it spot on. I enjoyed all the characters. Melsint, the Commander, and Master Evston all had such personality that as a reader, I could not put the book down. A very unique and creative read. I volunteered to read and review for SNP.

Very well done

The emotional depth of this story carries it far ahead of most BDSM stories. The characters and plot are interesting and believable which makes the sex hotter. The writing is also a step above. Nothing is more irritating than poor editing. I will watch for more by Ms Wray.

Super hot and enjoyable read

I love the way Marlee Wray writes about submission. Melsint is a great character and I throughly enjoyed reading her eagerness to please both her masters. The anal and dp scenes are freaking amazing and made my vagina move. I really really hope there is a book 2 and it that it perhaps features a kitten and a princess getting into trouble together.

This book was okay. I guess sci-fi dark romance isn't my genre, so my review probably shouldn't count.
The author used a lot of made-up words, and I suppose I just couldn't buy into it because of that. There was no explanation of the place, time, description of the area, etc., which I feel is integral to a story in order for me to put myself there.
Just not my thing. Written well, though.
