Rate this book
In the MEANTIME, anything can happen!

In this wacky and hilarious sci-fi spoof, Captain Lisa Henderson and her 3,500 passengers on the commuter spaceship Agatha X are stuck inside a wormhole. Their safe return home may depend upon a cinnamon roll.

THE MEANTIME STORIES is a funny short read series that draws inspiration from Terry Pratchett, Monty Python, and Douglas Adams, all combined with a twist of Nordic Noir (human folly, abrupt and plentiful deaths, snappy dialogue, quirky deep thoughts, and absurd outcomes). It’s glittering darkness, and clouded light.

Each story is a stand-alone, ready to be enjoyed when you yearn for 30 minutes of wacky, brainy, and laugh-out-loud entertainment. Longing for surprises, unexpected twists, and silliness with an edge? Look no further, because in the Meantime, anything can happen!

Now they have poured all their creative forces into The Meantime Stories, a humorous short read series embraced by both critics and readers.

Very clever!

Warped is a fun and warped short story about a ship stuck in "nowhere", an AI, a cinnamon bun, and space travel. A cute story.

Warped is offering number three from Meantime Stories by Syingen and Pedersen. Why “Meantime?” because you read these stories in the meantime. Meantime of what? That is up to the reader who downloaded the book. This very short story can distract you from routine tasks, so you can read it in the meantime while formulating the national defense budget for small nations. Or whatever.

In the ancient times of Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy, creation was explained to us with the number 42. For non-lovers of math, this culinary explanation may be more fulfilling. There are two and one-half main characters plus Ada to explain what is going on with this story. Captain Lisa Henderson, commanding, and Second Pilot John Bang must deal with a crisis. We will ignore Passenger liaison officer Robert Decker. His character is not developed, and he complains too much anyway. The 3500 passengers are just filling.

Something is wrong with the ship. It has slipped into a wormhole and is nowhere. The objective is to end up somewhere. The only helper is Ada who is more binary than bipedal and somehow manages, despite damages, to offer a rather organic solution. Cinnamon roll.

That’s it. The reader is on automatic from here. Nobody can offer a better, more correct solution than the reader.

So, get on with it.

Just because of the unique genre that I cannot identify, I gave this five Amazon stars. I liked the ridiculous nature of it.

Warped by Svingen and Pedersen is a short, zany story set on board a spaceship called Agatha X, which is stuck in a wormhole inside a wormhole. Trouble is afoot and Captain Lisa Henderson must take whatever action is needed to get herself, the crew and passengers back home safely. Time is running out and the Agatha X is headed for annihilation with everyone on board. Suspense builds as the crew try to fathom out what the strange series of events means, and solve the mystery before it is too late. With moments to spare, Lisa and her crew discover that the solution may rely on the consumption of a cinnamon roll. Captain Lisa is not convinced it will work, but her crew and passengers are depending on her.

Warped is one of three books in The Meantime Stories series by Svingen and Pedersen. I read the whole short story open mouthed. It has to be the funniest, wackiest tale I have read in a long time. The whole situation on board the Agatha X is side-splittingly funny. The plot was brilliantly written and so unique, and I loved the ways the characters tried to work out how to get back home safely. I laughed out loud throughout. I felt as if I had been transported onto the ship and was pleading with Lisa to eat the cinnamon roll quickly before everyone was doomed. Although it is a very funny story, the authors cleverly wove suspense into the humour. If you like the zany comedy of Airplane, then this is a must-read. Absolutely brilliant.

I understand the restrictions of short stories make world building and character description difficult, but it isn't impossible. While this story could have been interesting and humorous, I felt the authors spent far too much energy on in your face wackiness at the expense of solid storytelling. That isn't to say there wasn't a story here. There was, and it had a lot of potential. I just wish it would have been constructed a bit differently.

A spaceship captain (think Enterprise, but ran by AI) is on her final trip before retiring. She has plans with a wonderful cinnamon roll, which was ruined for me by the addition of raisins! Something happens and the ship is damaged when they apparently enter a wormhole within a wormhole. This was a good read, and I didn't downgrade it based on the cinnamon roll raisins, even though I considered it!

You don t have to be crazy to work here, but it helps!

The ultimate Murphy s Law type of joke that the universe can throw at you. If you think that the cosmos has no sense of humour, you have got to read this story! Followed by others as they publish them!

This was ... interesting. A crippled starcraft and a cinnamon roll control the fate of 2500 passengers and crew. The story is short. Thankfully.

Better

It's a better story than book 2, but the endings are getting a tad bit predictable. Why? The punchlines are kind of always the same.

This story is a laff riot. Star trek and cinnamon rolls? Captain Janeway meets number 1, with out Spock. Read this story for a very good half hour.
