Syed Shamsul Haq was one of the most prolific Bangladeshi poets, lyricists, and writers, born in Kurigram on 27 December 1935 to Syed Siddique Husain, a homeopathic physician, and Halima Khatun. Married to Anwara Syed Haq, a member of the Royal College of Psychiatrists in London, he had a daughter, Bidita Sadiq, and a son, Ditio Syed Haq. Throughout his illustrious career, he was honored with the Bangla Academy Award in 1966, the Ekushey Padak in 1984, and the Independence Day Award in 2000 by the Government of Bangladesh. On 27 September 2016, he passed away from lung cancer at the age of 81.

Haq's extensive literary contributions span poetry, fiction, essays, music lyrics, and verse plays, resulting in a remarkable lifelong output of 39 novels, 7 books of poetry, 5 stories, 12 plays, and 4 translations. Reflecting his profound impact on the nation's culture, his literary works are integral to the curriculum of Bengali literature across school, secondary, higher secondary, and graduation levels in Bangladesh.
