First in a series! When Rory overhears a space army instructor talking about the recruits’ unusual Day 30 challenge, he’s ready and willing to do whatever it takes with his seven new bunkmates to earn his place in an SDF platoon. Because this sexy small town boy will get down and dirty with women and men—kinky, public, Space Army banging—before he’ll go back to the farm!
Welp. To be fair I didn't expect much from this. I got a bit more than expected, however. Didn't mind all the different characters and their interactions. They had different personalities and the MC was actually rather considerate even if a bit out there. Very out there as far as his sexuality goes, which... hey, nothing wrong there and definitely worked in his favor! I liked his attitude and his approach to people. With Marc and his request, he actually takes the time to talk to him beforehand and I thought that was a very nice touch.
Will I check out the others in this series? Meh, I don't know. If they're more the same then not really that interested. I'd like to see more of the space/military aspect as opposed to just a bunch of strangers having sex, whether together or around each other.
And I'm not sure what happened in it. This dude jacks off in front of people in the beginning and ends with him having butt sex for the first time in a group setting. I'm gonna read the other book in the series just to see what happens cause now I am invested.
I can't believe how long it's been since I read this last. This really held up given it's age. Completely inclusive and respectful. I liked it even more this read.
Reviewed for previous title, moved here.
I really wasn't expecting much from this, but sexy times, and I got A Lot of that, but I actually cared about the characters and will be looking for the sequel. So, successfully sexy with actual character development, for the length, and the goal, well-done.
Disclaimer: I got this book for free on Kindle. I participated in stuff your kindle day where I got a bunch of romance books for free, roughly 2,000 books. I normally do not read romance books but I wanted to try the genre. I typically read fantasy, science fiction, biographies, and classics so this is way out of my comfort zone. My plan is to draw a book at random without reading the summary, title, and avoiding looking at the cover. As long as the book is not too graphic for me or leads into something uncomfortable, I will be attempting to finish as many of these books as I can in 2024. I understand that many of these books will likely not be top tier but I am hoping that I can learn something about the romance genre as a whole and figure out if any types of books in this genre are for me.
Review: If you went into reading this book like me and only read the title right before you started reading it, you may have thought that this book would be a more in-depth, romancy take on Passengers. Spoiler, this is nothing like Passengers. This book's only plot point really is that some members of a crew or group (not really sure) think they are being watched and believe they are being put in situations to sleep together as much as possible. So what do they do? They sleep together. They walk around naked. They masturbate. They try all kinds of sex practices. If you like smut with no plot, this is perfect for you. For my tastes, I didn't want to finish this but I had hopes it might turn around. Unfortunately, it did not.
Ok this wasn’t what I’d say was bad or good. It just was something. The spice was explicit and somewhat hot. Although if your looking for big lovey dovey feelings don’t look here. The team reminds me a bit of starship troopers but without the peril. I did really love the wide representation of sexuality and orientation. Nicely done and explained for those not in the know.
This was fantastic! 'Queer, horny people in a raunchy futuristic setting' is as deep in my genre as books get, and this one did not disappoint. The main character, Rory, is so adorable, open-minded, and funny I genuinely want to be his friend. I love the set-up, just enough scifi elements for the nerd in me and plenty of raunchy scenes for the naughty deviant. I'll definitely keep reading this series, and appreciate the author so much for writing such wonderfully graphic filth!
I learned about this on Fated Mates, and it delivered. It's short and silly, yet nicely written.
These Space Army Recruits learn that there will be a test on day 30 and decide to study up. That test? An orgy. The studying? Smaller orgies.
If you know that going in and think that sounds fun, you'll probably enjoy this. There's a good amount of emotional intelligence here, several characters who are distinct and diverse, and lots of potential.
Having been in the Army myself I was curious mainly about how the structure of the military of the future would be presented. WOW! Not only did I get a start on that but also was educated on some rather open sexual activities as well. Looking forward to the rest of this series with the hope for some actual combat missions as well as the extremely forward looking sexual practices.
The spice jumps in from the start and progresses at a fast pace by the end! While I enjoy a good smutty book, I was hoping for more of the sci-fi bit to be part of this. I’ll most likely read the second book as I’m hoping the outline of the plot will be delved deeper into it and we see some character building happening. I’m very curious about Smith and Ace.
Space Army Recruits: Day 1 (Space Army Recruits #1) by Kinley Grey – Personally, I think that kind of bonding should be in the fine print somewhere! But if you are looking for a plot, maybe it appears later? Lol! Happy Reading!
It was a nice sci-fic smut novella. I liked Rory's personality, and I might read the rest of the series. The author has potential, but I do feel like the writing could be a bit more developed.
Another short, but a series. Not much character depth but the story is intriguing. Lots of spicy scenes. I think I'd like to read day 2, but not high on the TBR. The shower scene was hot.
This was fun p*rn without plot but I would have really liked it to be longer or explore the SCI FI part more?? Probably won't be reading the rest in the series
Queer sci-fi horror set in space where a bunch of space army recruits discover they’re going to be put through a ‘challenge’ on Day 30 of their training? Yeah, I grabbed this one because who was I to resist that kind of call?
Rory is from a small farming town where very little happens. To escape, he joins the Space Army, where he meets his seven new bunkmates and overhears a discussion about a sex challenge the recruits will be put through. Never one to shy away, Rory embraces this, reveals it to his bunkmates, and sets about preparing.
There’s little else to say plot wise without spoiling too much, so this will be a short one. What I will say is I really appreciated that Grey took the time to give us fully fleshed out characters here, as well as some decent world building, and packs this novella with some sexy scenes, all in a very short space. It’s a fun ride! Rory considers himself straight, but he’s open to experimentation, and empathetic to the people around him – he knows his best chance at passing the recruit stage is working together, and he shows that he is, without a doubt, a team player.
Rory decides that to pass the challenge, he needs to go in prepared, and that Day 30 can’t be the first time he’s been with a man. To solve this, he respectfully approaches one of his bunkmates with a specific request.
I liked the way the characters interacted with each other, their openness and how they were all different, some much more sexually open than others. It’s a good mix of people, and I think Grey did a great job with really making the reader care for the characters and this world, and even the sex scenes add to the characters.
So, if you’re looking for a fun, sexy series set in space, pick up Space Army Recruits: Day 1. I, for one, will definitely be grabbing Day 8, and look forward to returning to the series.
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ Storyline ⭐ Execution 🖋️🖋️🖋️🖋️ This book doesn't lead with a strong storyline or fleshed out characters. It's really just a backdrop for heaps of spice and romping around. I like story forward reads (hence my 3 star rating), but if those feel like a waste of time and you just wanna get to the spice, then this book is for you. The heated scenes do not disappoint. Enjoy!
I had no expectations going in and really loved it, I can't wait to read the other ones. It's super queer, it's fun and kinky, all about trying to push your own boundaries. The main character we follow is mostly a heterosexual gentleman and we get to see him, and the others around him, explore their sexuality.
