This is a HP AU where Hermione is Voldemort’s daughter and he didn’t actually die/vanquish upon attacking the Potter’s. Considering this rather large change, it is surprising how most of the events in year 5 are very similar to cannon. Until the end, of course. That said, the story is written very much dependent on there being another after it. The arc, as it should be, deals with the ida of what happens if Voldemort wasn’t defeated but was radically reduced and he had a daughter.

Which is fine but there is no real climax. It would be the Battle of the Department of Mysteries but it wasn’t really a battle. There is no real mystery solved. There is no problem overcome. There is nothing really “defeated” over the course of the narrative and that is a little bit hard to handle. I feel like I am being strung along for the sequel solely.

As for the writing, I am finding that the more reviews I do using the CAWPILE system (@bookroast on YouTube for details), the more important I am finding the writing. In the case of this author, I find the writing very direct and simplistic. Which is fine but bothers me after a while. I feel like there is a lot of telling (sometimes repeatedly the same thing) instead of showing how a character sees things or feels about a situation. There is little ability to gain insight and find quirks of the characters as it’s all blatant. I have a read a lot of this author’s works and it is a trend across them, although the works here Hermione is on the dark side have less of it.

Character wise, nothing is really too OOC considering the premise. The obvious, of course, being Voldemort as a parent. Even when Hermione is working to help her father, she still seems true to character. This is pretty amazing as the change is rather huge to character development. So, that’s a large nod to the author creating circumstances that read as true and smoothly fit into known characterization.

Regardless of the bumps I have with the writing, I will continue reading the series and the author. The low angst is fantastic for quick, refreshing reads

Definitivamente as outras dessa escritora são melhores. Essa foi cansativa e olha que eu li rápido de um dia para outro. Além disso, nada memorável o bastante.
