Easy to read and did not get bogged down in historical mundane facts during the Civil War. I liked how the author would not only write chapters about the main women in his life (Mary Todd Lincoln, Nancy Hanks and Ann Rutledge). But others such as Dorothea Dix, Kate Chase and Eliza Gurney.

Facts such as President Johnson never expressed sympathy to Mary Todd Lincoln with letters, calling on her or inquiring about her welfare. She just left the White House 40 days after the assassination, no one said goodbye.

I really liked this book though it looked a lot at the negative side of Lincoln's life.

I grudgingly had to admit that Mary Todd Lincoln was difficult, but I still think her son Robert treated her harshly.
