Not your typical zombie story... Beta readers who don't like zombies loved this book!
Just because zombies can kill you doesn’t mean they’re always ruining people’s lives. They just exist, the same way that people do and the same way that everything else does. The zombies have been around for so long that most people have learned how to live without being affected by them. Most of the time.
So when a young woman, traveling with a man she hardly knows, is bitten on the foot, she’s faced with a difficult decision: Let the infection run its course and become a zombie herself, or let him amputate. After losing her parents and not knowing how to trust someone new, putting her life in the hands of a stranger seems to be the toughest situation she will ever be faced with.
Hey, it's Nat. I work in a Brewery so that means I'm cool ;) When I'm not dealing with chronic pain, I like to workout and go jogging or rollerblading. If I'm not escaping into a book that I'm reading or writing, you can probably find me wandering around Hyrule on my Nintendo Switch.
This book was such a unique take on a zombie setting, without a zombie plot. The plot itself revolves more around the main character learning to navigate her way through life, her own feelings, her relationships with other people, and the world around her. It was a book I was always happy to sit down with at the end of the day and read, and it kept me entertained the whole way through.
I really enjoyed this book! The vivid descriptions, the emotions, the characters personalities and the plot/storyline. Definitely not your average zombie story and I loved how it was more about the characters and their lives, emotions & struggles, rather than about the actual zombies. Especially loved Masons character and Luke too :) it was a great read!!
I'm so excited (and nervous of course haha) for you all to read my next book! I hope you love the characters and story as much as I do! It should be available for you to order from indigo and amazon by the late Spring!!! :D
The world has been taken over by zombies. It's been awhile since this has happened. Young people don't remember a world before zombies. This novel is about a young girl who has to navigate this new world without her family, just the young man she meets in one of the worst ways. From there she loses her leg in a world that can't accommodate that kind of change. I absolutely loved this novel. The character development was amazing. Their interactions, memories, and experiences just tugged at my heartstrings. This novel was also so intense. You can't relax or recover in a world taken over my zombies. Trust is so hard to find. I think so many different readers would love this novel. It is way more than zombies.
This is an amazing story with characters you want to know. I read an early version so I'm excited to read the finished one. It's a story about the people and their struggles in a world we haven't experienced - their world just happens to include zombies, which is really refreshing. Do not miss out on this story if you don't like zombie stories because it just isn't that.
I can't say enough amazing things about this book. Loved it! I am not ever one for zombies but they take a backseat to this intriguing tale of a girl finding her way through the world around her. The characters are well written and defined, the banter is amazing as always and the concept is fascinating. This novel explores life on a new frontier in a strangely open and optimistic way. Can't wait to recommend it at my store!
I’m someone that has read a good bit of horror in the past 6 years or so, but this was actually my first full novel I’ve read with zombies in it so I can understand how the back cover states that this book is not your “typical zombie story”. Especially if one is used to the traditional horror storylines found in your popular mainstream zombie shows and movies.
With that being said, I still found this novel a gem to sit down and read. I enjoyed the two main characters in the story and their many conversational exchanges. The author brought depth and realism to both characters through the unraveling of their harrowing experiences and slowly peeling back their guarded emotions and vulnerabilities to show their strengths.
Thank you Natalie for this pleasant piece of writing and for all your much appreciated booktube content and reviews you create. All my best to you!
