I just finished watching Avavtar, the last Airbender, and I felt ROBBED of what could have been a truly iconic enemies to lovers, yin to my yang, dark broody guy earns the love of the girl who should hate him ending. Listen, I understand that Aang is the good guy and he's always liked Katara but I felt like their story was more forced, the chemistry was lacking, and I viewed it as a more brother/sister or platonic friends relationship. Honestly got the ick from the ending scene of their kiss.

But Katara and Zuko? PLEASE! Maybe it's my enemies to lovers trope heart bleeding all over the place, but I felt like there was so much FIRE and passion between those two. The ability to work through and heal their trauma simultaneously and CMON Zuko had the best redemption arc I have EVER SEEN!! I was rooting for him after the first few episodes hoping he would redeem himself and he truly developed into the best character on the show. I just felt like those two worked, ya know? Anyway, I digress.

After watching the last episode and being disappointed and needing my Zuko and Katara alternate ending fix, I went on a tiktok rabbit hole finding fanart, theories, and overall proof why this would work better than her and Aang (it was just too predictable ugh) and I came across this suggestion of fanfic to heal my bleeding heart.

If you want an alternate ending that sticks with the show and captures the characters in ways that make so much SENSE that it easily could've been the correct and perfect ending, then here you go. I got to watch Katara step into herself and not be Aang's shadow and also watch the chemistry between her and Zuko happen so easily and naturally that when I reached the end I felt so grateful that it did for me what the show couldn't. It wrapped up history and the aftermath that we all wanted to know what happened and made the iconic water tribe water bender become fire lord Zuko's equal and fire lady. It just hits so much harder and has more impact. Talk about bringing peace to the world, they balance each other. Mai always annoyed me, but Katara and Zuko? I'm still swooning. Anyway, very worth the short read. I fear I will be thinking of Katara and Zuko's deserved love story for a while. The only thing I wanted more of from this story was a lil bit more romance. Give me their first kiss scene, I was dying for that! But I'll settle knowing he made her his Fire Lady and clearly married her. I'll take what I can get.
