Two years and many, many drafts later, she pitched Night Life to a bevy of agents and one of them, Rachel Vater, sold the series to St. Martin’s.
Caitlin collects comic books, print books, vintage clothes, and bad habits. She loves tea, loud music, the color black (especially mixed with the color pink) and ghost stories. She can drive a stick shift, play the violin and knows more English curses than American ones.

I'm genuinely enjoying Coffin Hill and really looking forward to volume 3.
This one is told in the same flashback/present time sort of jumping all over the place sort of way, so if you don't like that kind of storytelling, you've been warned. I think (in this instance especially) it makes the plot a bit more fun to follow. Also, again at the end, there's an independent (yet connected) story about a witch in Eve's ancestry.
Dark Endeavors opens with Eve in jail, dealing with the fallout from the end of Forest of the Night. There are a few characters (new and old) that take the story in a different direction than I was expecting. The flashbacks this time around tell the story of how Eve caught the serial killer that ultimately ended her career as a police officer. It's not perfect, and you know who the serial killer is almost immediately, but it all ties together nicely at the end. <--I thought, anyway.
Recommended for fans of horror comics.

Fills in a couple of the gaps from volume 1, which begins after the main character managed to capture a serial killer. That story is told here. And thankfully in a more coherent way than most of what happened in the previous volume.
We also learn why spoilery thing that happened to Eve towards the end of volume 1 took place.
There are still a lot of time jumps and several new timelines get introduced. That, as well as the huge number of female characters - some of them either looking similar to other ones or changing their appearance significantly in between timelines or sometimes referring to themselves in third person - makes it still somewhat hard to follow.
Questions were answered, yes. But new ones were brought up as well.
On its own this volume is more streamlined and therefore easier to read and understand. The big picture, though, remains a bit of a jigsaw puzzle. I guess volume 3 will provide the remaining missing pieces.
Once again I liked Inaki Miranda’s art a lot. And the last issue was pretty cool and also pretty creepy. But I’m not sure yet how it ties in to the other events. We’ll find out.

This graphic novel didn't make much sense to me, perhaps it would have been better if I had read the first volume? Anyway, there where a lot of jumps between now and then, very confusing, a lot of characters showing up in the story with no explanation to why...
I managed to finish Coffin Hill 2 but I can't say I'm any wiser...hell I wonder if I would have been much wiser even if I had read the first volume...

More sexy witch hijinks in Coffin Hill, Volume 2, “Dark Endeavors”, in which: we learn more about Eve’s introduction to the serial killer Ice Fisher in 2012 and how she became an important part of the investigation; we see Eve, now, in prison for the murder of her partner; we see the latest victim of the Coffin Witch, a young girl, trapped in the hellish nightmare that is the Coffin House.
There’s a lot of big events that happen in this volume, and to say more would be spoilers.
Writer Caitlin Kittredge keeps the suspense going, along with the dark and bloody artwork of Inaki Miranda and Ryan Kelly. An excellent horror series for the horror graphic novel afficionado.

SUPER FAST REVIEW:
This story remains very interesting, maybe even a bit more so in this volume. I still like the characters. This volume is SUPER intense! Lots of suspense and creepy horror stuff. The art is fantastic too, there are some beautiful pages in this comic.
Yeah, this was a good pick for Halloween.
Highly recommended!

Coffin Hill is a legitimately frightening graphic novel series, and this one ups the ante from the first volume. It looks at witchcraft through a lens that this is some really dangerous stuff that is not to be played around with. It also looks at other societal ills through a horrific lens. Eve makes an excellent lead character, as someone who has a heritage of witchcraft, but also is a trained detective, not to mention a survivor of violent crime. This aspects of her psyche paired together equip her to deal with the legitimate evil she encounters. I'm really sad I didn't get to finish out this series before I moved and lost my library with a fantastic graphic novel collection. Now I'll have to seek out the last book to read.

The plot of volume 1 left a lot to be desired. The writing was choppy. A lot of scenes were left hanging and there were plenty of plot holes. Regardless, I decided to give the second volume a chance. Here we go.
It was better. The story was more streamlined, the time jumps were not as jarring. The artwork was good. It did tie up some loose ends from the first volume.
I am still not a huge fan, but I guess I will read the third volume as well to find out where it all leads.
The additional story at the end was nice, in a creepy way.

Still just a meh. Not hating it, not loving it, and still somewhat confused. When are we going to start getting explanations, because this is vol. 2 of 3. We're getting down to the end and I'm still not seeing the light at the end of the tunnel.
Really disappointed at the blasphemous artwork towards the end, so beware if that's not for you.

Two different stories running back and forth made for a very annoying reading experience and I can see how some people would get confused reading this. Having read the first volume will help to understand the "present day" story, but they should have been separated out and told on their own. The story structure really hurt this.

The artwork in Coffin Hill is great and the overall plot is very creepy, but the constant flashbacks really muddy the story and left me very confused. Volume two ends with a new plot thread that left me even more confused. Not sure if I will continue with this series.

This is the second volume in the Coffin Hill graphic novel series, and the art continues to be good, the story interesting, and I really like the local (Boston area) setting. However, there are even more timelines and flashbacks in this volume, and it is sometimes hard to keep it all straight, and I for one have no idea what that ending was all about. Still, I liked it enough that I'll continue with the series.
If you are in the mood for a paranormal horror (is there any other kind?) story with multiple timelines, give this one a try.

There's black magic lurking in Coffin Hill..
Wow. Coffin Hill Vol. 2: Dark Endeavors was considerably better than Coffin Hill Vol. 1: Forest of the Night !
I enjoyed the layout of images a lot more than the first one as well.
There is still some confusion in terms of characters for me but you can get by not knowing them off by heart.
This Vol. collects the issues that explain a bit about Eve's experience as a rookie cop. So essentially it seems like the author is moving from back to front. It works for this story.
Would also not really try to read this too long after Vol.1 because you'll just barely know what's going on.
Eve's character is starting to grow on me , even though she can be a bit reckless and bitchy at times. Again , like I said in my first review , I wish Eve's actual history of witchcraft and her developing the skill and accepting it would be explained in more detail.
Maybe that's not too important right now , but hey! Sold on Vol. 3

Pretty good follow up to volume 1! So the first volume focused mostly on the present and a little bit in the past through flashbacks; this volume its the complete opposite. I can't really talk about the present parts without spoiling volume 1 so I'll focus on the past. This volume they finally explain the whole Ice Fisher serial killer thing they hinted to in volume 1 and I enjoyed; good old fashioned cop story! We also get see more of Eve Coffin's powers and her using witchcraft! Caitlin Kittredge is not only a teen novelist but she is also becoming a great comic book writer!

Pretty good follow up volume to the first installment. I did get annoyed with the majority of the volume being held up by a flashback, i don't mind the flashback story itself but i felt like most of this volume's time was spent there instead of having it equally run alongside the present day story.

Coffin Hill Vol. 2 Dark Endeavors collects issues 8-14 of the Vertigo Comics series written by Caitlin Kittredge and art by Inaki Miranda.
The story picks up with Eve now in prison, with a dark force out to get her. We get flashbacks to Eve's past during the case of the Ice Fisher Killer.
Just when I think the book is about to get really interesting, it makes a swerve that is so baffling you are literally asking the author "What the hell were you thinking?" Again I felt like this book was trying to parody other witch TV shows or police procedurals, but again, it doesn't seem to be that smart. The way the story jumps through time periods, it is incredibly hard to tell what is going on. This is just a very baffling book, but at the same time it is batshit crazy, you want to. See what will happen next.

Review for the series as a whole.
So, first, this series was absolutely gorgeous. If I was reviewing based on artwork alone, I'd give it 6 stars. Absolutely gorgeous panels mixed with horrifically gory ones and all done with such precision, you can't help but stare at double page spreads for much longer than it takes to actually read them. As well, the writing was absolutely fantastic. Wonderfully confusing and heartbreaking and creepy in equal measure. You can tell Kittredge really knows how to turn a phrase, and although the introduction of the trade I read said she'd never written a comic book before, I'm not sure I believe that, because the pacing of the plot is perfect throughout all 3 volumes, which I know can be hard for first time comic writers, since the act of writing and timing for comics is so different from books or even scripts.
So why did I rate it simply four stars instead of 5? Just stupid personal preference. I like my horror stories a little dark, not super dark, and the horror got a bit darker in places than I find personally comfortable.
So don't worry about that. If you are the kind of person who likes proper horror, this series is definitely for you. Go on, go get a copy. You know you want to.

Man, I really like this series. It is the perfect thing for me. It combines two of my top favorite genres: true crime/police detective and horror. The second volume started pulling the threads of the story tighter and stayed cohesive and pretty easy to follow as we went. Overall, this story has been like a 2-3 out of ten on how easy it is to keep up with the storyline. I was literally freaking out there in issue 13 let’s just be vague here and say I cannot believe her partner did that to her! Ugh! It’s so icky and rude! I will be diving right into volume 3 and I can only say I’m already sad that this story couldn’t be longer.

I definitely liked this one better than the first volume, although the non linear timeline threw me off for a little while [despite it always being clearly marked, I'm just awful with stuff like that]. I definitely enjoyed the serial killer / jail plot more than all the ~edgy teenage witchcraft~ from the first one and I really liked the Coffin family flashback issue for this volume as well. Also the art is still really great. Definitely looking forward to seeing how it wraps up in volume 3.

¿La verdad? No mejora mucho con respecto al anterior, pero sigo leyendo porque es una historia de brujas (y porque me prestaron los tres volúmenes, jejeje). Igual que dije con el 1, la historia tiene potencial, el problema es que es algo esquizofrénica y no decide bien hacia dónde quiere ir.
Lo mejor de este volumen fue que hubo más backstory de Eve... fuera de eso, lo demás no avanzó demasiado.

I liked this volume much better than the first. The cliffhanger ending of the first volume left me wondering if I'd missed something, but this volume cleared that up. This was a more coherent story based on the story of the "Ice Killer" and there's also a single issue story at the end of the volume that was the scariest thing in this series so far.
Things really picked up here, and I hope the series has a good ending in the final volume and wasn't just suddenly canceled.

If you liked the first volume, I think you'll like this one as well. It's a lot like the first one. Lots of beautiful artwork! It gives you more of a peek into the past on things that happened that led up until now. As with the first one, there are a lot of flashbacks and different storylines going on so it can be a bit confusing. Still enjoyable though. Ready for the next volume!

Eve Coffin remains one of my favorite GN female leads.
In Vol. 2, we get even more of what her makes her so relatable - she isn't perfect but has a kickass backstory (heritage aside) and makes up for the dearth of GN that explores a redemptive character without necessarily pushing it down the reader's throat with bad writing, i.e. "she wanted nothing more than to be redeemed". Eve is more about coming to terms with herself, I feel, even more in this volume than the first (if you disagree with me, please don't hate on me, it's just my opinion!).
Other notes: The illustrations are still really great; the storyline is good and follows roughly the same formula as that of the first volume (using flashbacks pretty often). I enjoy seeing the flashbacks (as I did in the first volume) as they give some backstory/context for Eve and how she's gotten to where she is in the present.
Recommended for those who love well-written serial-killer-procedural-supernatural-witchcraft mashups.

This collects up the next batch of comics in the series, and I think I liked it a little better than the last, even if it had more problems narrative-wise. In particular, I did not buy the choice to cover-up the cop's death - for two intelligent characters, this was extremely short-sighted thinking. No surprise it came back to bite them, and if I'm supposed to feel sorry for Eve here I don't. Stupidity is its own reward. That being said, I still enjoyed the convoluted structure of this, even if sometimes it raises more questions than it answers.
