Introducing “A Rogue for a Lady” - The First Standalone story in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series
Amelia Seaworth, eldest daughter of the Duke of Westbrook, has always been the responsible one, always caring for her sisters and for their father since their mother passed away some years ago.
When her father confides in her that he is not altogether well and, therefore, wishes each of his daughters to marry very soon, Amelia responds with her usual gravitas, knowing she must be the first one to find herself a suitable husband.
Unfortunately, the one man Amelia finds herself drawn to, while dashingly handsome, is also arrogant and distant with a seemingly less than perfect reputation. However, no matter how hard she tries, she simply cannot stop her growing affections for Lord Northfell, even though he constantly confuses her. And somehow she cannot help the feeling that he is keeping something from her.
Love grows yet whispered secrets threaten to separate them. A scheming cousin, blackmail and family responsibilities push Amelia into a spiral of confusion and a sense of betrayal. When all is finally revealed, she must decide what to do with the man who holds her heart – and choose whether love can forget the sins and mistakes of the past.
Will Arthur and Amelia overcome their initial differences and reach out to help each other? Or will all their similarly-proud natures lead them to ruin? A story of conflict, courage and passion set in the ultra-sophisticated and unpredictable world of Regency London.
“A Rogue for a Lady” is a work of historical romance fiction. It is the first book of a series of standalone romances set in Regency era London involving the Duke of Seaworth’s daughters. Every book is a guaranteed HEA and there are no cliffhangers.
Rose has read her way through countless romances over the years, “borrowing” them from her older sisters, and hiding them from her mother.
She has a special love for Regency romances and when she began writing, the Regency period was a natural place to start. The ton, the wealthy families, the Season, the dilemmas, and yes, the marriages, have always fascinated her.
She loves a happy ever after! Now she is happy to bring this passion to her stories and share it with her readers.
On a personal note, Rose lives in North Carolina, is married, and has a terrier that barks too much. She enjoys taking him for walks to tire him out!
I read part 4 of this series first. The one in which the youngest daughter Harmonia finds her HEA. The part in which Amelia is the wise and helpful elder sister. In this book, part 1, it is the other way around. Harmonia, although being the youngest, seems a lot wiser than her eldest sister. The two middle sisters play a slightly bigger role in this book as in part 4. But not big enough to really get to know them. Guess I'll have to read part 2 and 3 for that... I enjoyed this book a little less than part 4, because Amelia sometimes annoyed me, with all her quick assumptions.
But I liked it enough for 4 stars!
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
***SPOILER WARNING*** The story of Arthur and Amelia is like so many others. There are misunderstandings, a villain, a kidnapping, and a happy ending. It would have been an enjoyable read except for its mistakes and unbelievable happenings. One mistake was that during a stroll through the hero's gardens, the heroine tells him about her meeting with his cousin as if they had never talked about the incident before. However, they had had the same conversation during a recital prior. Unbelievable was the fact that two unchaperoned women would take several hackneys and ride up and down the streets of London to find the villain without any idea where to look for him. More unbelievable was the fact that they actually found him. Then Amelia decides to not sit in front of his door afraid he would see her. So she sits right across the street from his house instead. Does he have no windows looking out into the street? And why did the villain not look his front door? After all, he was hiding a kidnap victim. I really had hoped I would like the book. Unfortunately, I did not. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was a well written historical romance set in the London during the Regency period. With her father's ailing heath, Amelia is told that she and her sister's should find a husband and get married. The only man that interests her is Lord Arthur Northfell. No shortage of drama as he has lots of dirty secrets, throw in a betraying cousins, blackmail, angst and lots of drama. I read an advance copy and voluntarily chose to write a review. A good book that you will enjoy
An enjoyable read that keeps you interested. A light easy read with a beautifully written storyline. The Characters are extremely well developed and the range and depth of emotion wrung from the reader is honest in its very simplicity. This book definitely does not disappoint. So for a light read buy and enjoy. I was given this book in return for an honest review. Regards, Anna
The Duke’s Daughter’s Series Spanning several years, this series is centered around the aging and often ill Duke of Westbrook as he sends his four daughters to London, and the adversities they must face to find love and marry. 1. A Rogue for a Lady 4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance A Rogue for a Lady in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely. With orders to marry before the year ends, Amelia Seaworth, first daughter to the Duke of Westbrook finds herself instantly attracted to the reformed Arthur Ridlington, Marquess of Northfell, but his secretiveness and persistent cousin have her frustrated and doubting his suitability. Contains the darker undertones of greed, blackmail gambling addiction, and the controversial topic of illegitimacy. 2. My Restless Earl 3 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance A Rogue for a Lady in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely. This is a story of the malicious and vindictive Major Ridding, whose greed leads to the cruel and ruthless pursuit of Lady Jessica and the ending of a long military friendship with Captain George Eccles the new Lord Warwick. Despite a lot of strife and the repeated attempts by Major Ridding to compromise Lady Jessica, there is a heartwarming ending. 18+ for violent content. 3. Rescued by an Earl 4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance Rescued by an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely. Full of drama, this dark second chance at love and a reformation of a rake story is complicated by the duplicity of a smuggler. Jacintha has her turn in London and although Lord Slate is persistent, she cannot forget a touching childhood moment with the now wastrel and spendthrift Viscount Henry Musgrove. 18+ for violent content. 4. In the Arms of an Earl 3 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance In the Arms of an Earl in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson, and this review was given freely. A lengthy instant attraction romance that is filled with violence. Obsessed, desperate, and indebted, Harmonia’s cousin Luke becomes violent in his multiple attempts to separate Harmonia from Phillip Marshal the new Earl of Newford and thus marry her himself. 5. The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel 4 Stars I purchased a copy of the clean historical romance The Reluctant Marquess: The Series Prequel in the Duke’s Daughter’s Series by Rose Pearson and this review was given freely. Not what I was expecting given the rest of the series. I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of violence and by the checkered past of Lord Seaworth, the future Duke of Westbrook, in this lengthy reformation of a rogue romance. My curiosity was finally satisfied as I learned the reason behind the daughter’s names. Under his brother’s supervision, the carefree and indulgent Lord Seaworth is pulled from his life of overindulgence to chaperone family friend, Miss Newton’s first Season in London.
I like the sisters a lot. Not a single one of them is stupid or obnoxious so far. They love and support each other. Yay!
Unfortunately, you hit one of my main pet peeves in romance novels.I hate when someone claims to love someone, yet takes another's word against them. I hate unnecessary drama that could be solved with withholding judgement and a 5 minute conversation. The h was completely shallow in her affections and didn't deserve the hero. Their relationship edged into melodrama and I could picture the cousin twirling his mustache a la Snidely Whiplash and the h with her hand to her forehead, aghast that he LIED to her. As the poor, misunderstood H hero slowly trods the path away from his beloved, hot tears flowing down his noble but downcast face.
Please try to refrain from such manufactured drama. You had some of it in the second book too. If a plot point can be resolved with the H & h having a short, mature conversation then it it to be avoided. No matter what excuse is made for not speaking/writing to each other. It's a lazy, cheap substitute for good and imaginative writing.
That having been said. I finished it. I enjoyed a great deal of it. Keep going! You're getting better with each book.
This is the first book I have read by Rose Pearson and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the story was well written and keeps your interest throughout the entire book. The characters were well developed and most were likable. While the h seemed to be intelligent, she did make some stupid moves. The youngest seemed more mature and intelligent than the eldest, Lady Amelia Seaworth. I liked Harmonia very much because of this. The two other sisters were barely mentioned throughout the book, but I believe their stories are out as well. I look forward to reading about them, too.
Lady Amelia, the eldest of the Duke of Westbrook's four daughters, is told by her father that his health is failing and he wants to see his daughters married to good men before he passes. First up, of course, is the eldest. At a ball, Lady Amelia meets Lord Northfell and they are immediately smitten with each other. A romance begins, but there are secrets in Lord Northfell's past that may just bring this romance crashing down.
If you like clean, historical romance with an HEA, you will like this one. It has intrigue, danger, a villain, and secrets. Just what the doctor ordered. Pick up a copy and see for yourself. Enjoy!
I enjoyed reading this story and getting to know the characters. I thought Amelia was the sensible one at the beginning and you would think she would be since she is the oldest. But who would become interested in a man yet when the man's cousin, who she had not been introduced to, approaches her and tells lies about his cousin she assumes he is telling the truth. It amazed me that she would believe a complete stranger, especially with the way he acts and doesn't ask Arthur about it. And it made no sense for her to tell cousin Luke she would marry him when she despised him. Perhaps it was partly her way to try to protect Harmonia as Luke had been continually pestering her to marry him. The little girl is a sweetheart. The story shows the importance of not judging another person without having all the facts. Of course, Arthur could have avoided much of the angst if he had just told her the whole truth much sooner, especially after finding out that his cousin had approached her after threatening him. The ending was sweet.
Ms. Pearson's books are always uplifting and fun to read. One knows from the beginning there's going to be a happily ever after at the end. Amelia and Arthur discover each other in a round about way, but their courtship is everything fun to read. I am always enticed to keep reading "one more chapter."
Ms. Pearson still needs to learn that "one another" means three or more, while "each other" means two. "laughing at one another," "exact opposite of one another," "The two sisters...enjoying one another's company," "looking at one another," etc.
Clean up split infinitives: to even propose, to even think, to be entirely open, to ever consider, etc.
"Between Lord Northfell and I" is incorrect because "between" is a preposition, and prepositions take OBJECTs. "I" is the nominative case. "Me" is the objective case.
The story switches Point of View to Duncan in Chapter 10, which is a bit confusing.
Amelia Seaworth is the oldest daughter of the duke of Westbrook. With her fathers decling health he tells Amelia it is time for her and her sister to find suitable husbands. This is the first book in the series. Amelia is immediately attracted to Lorth Northfell. As their courtship begins she finds there is a side to him that he isn’t willing to share. Little does she know his cousin has been blackmailing him almost to the point of bankruptcy. I read the others books first but I did enjoy getting to know the others sisters more. This was a typical regency romance book and the subject of a dukes daughter having to marry quickly is a common theme but no one does it like Rose Pearson! She is the queen of regency romance. Although some of the characters seemed a bit empty headed I did enjoy the sisters interactions amongst themselves. I recommend this book and this series!
What ever happened to cousin Ridlington? Apparently each person must imagine that outcome for themselves. And WHY would she think it was Lord Northfell that had cheated Luke, knowing everything she knew? That was completely nonsensical imo. The story was progressing well and I was enjoying it up till her becoming confused over nonsense and her interaction with cousin Ridlington. Her reactions were so out of character to the person we'd seen up till then that I found the story frustrating. Her father is painted as a tottering, weak old man who, most of the time, doesn't even know what his daughter's are up to. I did like that Lord Northfell loved his daughter and took responsibility for her. That was good. But overall, not one of my favorite reads by this author.
Lady Amelia and Lord Arthur Northfell they fell in love with each other. She was kind, compassionate but also quick to anger. He has secrets tries to hide them from her. His cousin has been blackmailing him forever. The Duke, finally wants his daughters to marry. I loved the four sisters especially Amelia and Harmonia. They had a special relationship for their being sisters. There is drama, betrayal, secrets, kidnapping, in this story. Thank goodness it ends with a HEA!

This is a book that I picked up on stuff your kindle day. What a gem it is. It is the story of Northfell and Amelia. Northfell had a shady past and ended up with a baby on his doorstep when the mother died in childbirth. He had a cousin who offered to raise the child and ended up embezzling money to keep Northfell’s secrets. Amelia and her sisters are all looking for a husband since their father is ill. A cute story that has a happily ever after ending. I would purchase the rest of the series. It is on my wish list.

I was torn between the decision of rating this novel either three or four stars. On one hand, this novel had the makings of being a wonderful story with an excellent follow through; however, it was dragged out past it's exparation which in turn stopped it from being the best that it could be. If this novel could have been shortened into a novella, keeping the best points and removing the extra fluff, then this could have been one of the best novels I have read in a while.
If you like drama then you will love this book. You have the hero who wouldn't know the truth if it bite him in the butt. You have the heroine who can't make a decision and stick to it. We have the old standby "the kidnapping" which appears in a lot of Regency novels as a filler in the plot. I'll probably skip the next two and get to Honoria, maybe she'll straighten old Luke out.
3.5*. This story wasn’t a favorite from Ms Pearson. Although it had potential, I couldn’t form any type of connection with Amelia. She was referred to many times as a woman who always thought logically and through her choices, but I didn’t get that impression. I felt more like she was irrational and judgmental. I continually became disinterested in the entire story because of it. That is not to say I wouldn’t recommend it to others as I did like the plot and will continue with the series.

Amelia has been ordered by her father to find a husband and marry. To be fair he has ordered all four of his daughters to marry as soon as possible. Amelia is the oldest therefore she must marry first. Will she be able to find a man she could spend the rest of her life with? She has never felt a spark with a man before.
Can a leopard change his spots? I must say I don’t believe Amelia deserved the ending she got. She was quite foolish in her assumptions when time after time she had been proved wrong. That said, I did enjoy these characters and the storyline and look forward to seeing the rest of the girls find marriage.
Was a short sweet romance book. A little slow. Very clean book. I like longer stories and some affection. Read a lot of regency, characters didn't seem like regency characters sometimes. Author has better books.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a delightful Regency Romance complete with refined Ladies, reformed rogues, scoundrels, deceit, passion and true love. Everything Regency and more! I am enjoying this series about the Seaworth sister's!
I enjoyed this book. It was short, the characters are entertaining and interesting. I liked the sisters. Amelia being the oldest took on the role of mother to her sisters. In the beginning, I felt he was weak in character, but he turned out to be a good guy.
Very entertaining story. Duke with an unsavory past, a young lady whose father persists in his request for her marriage. Add a conniving cousin to the Duke. What can go wrong? Really enjoyed this story.
Okay, right off the top I was most unhappy with Amelia. In the beginning she was okay but a more stupid woman has yet to be born. If I had been the Lord, I would have cut my losses and gone for one of the sisters.
Enjoy reading this book overall. Amelia was a bit of unstable personality being able to believe one man she did not know over another man she loved but did not know that didn’t make a lot of sense but all in all it ends happily ever after
The dialogue is so stilted it is tiresome. The relationships are not believable either. I kept thinking it might get better as I plowed through it but wish I had abandoned it right away.
What! A wonderful read. With a great story line, the more you read, the better it gets,.I enjoyed this book very much, recommend to all who love a good romance ,where love wins Everytime. Thank you❤️
I absolutely loved the storyline! The author has a way of pulling you in then throwing you into a spin. The characters are very real, I feel like I have a new family. Can't wait to read about the other sisters.
Loved this first book in the Duke's Daughters' series! A dastardly villain, a flawed hero, a sweet heroine, and a smart sister all make for interesting characters who make this story fun. It's a quick enjoyable read that's hard to put down.
I like that he fell in love with his daughter and it changed him. He sought a clean life from the filth he was living. Good rival villain in his cousin. Recommended for all readers.
An enjoyable tale of one of 4 duke’s daughters and her marriage prospects. It is an interesting story that has believable characters in it. The path to true happiness is a bit potholed but they get there in the end.
