Janie Murphy’s glimpse inside of lifelong friend Cole Daniels’ special playroom has her intrigued, even if she has no physical experience with such wild pleasures. She only knows she’s been attracted to him for years and yearns for a relationship between them – and she’s not afraid to try a little kink.
Dominant Cole Daniels never imagined he’d find himself in the position of dragging a very grown-up and very attractive Janie out of a BDSM club. And when she challenges him to be the one to teach her the joys of the wilder side of intimacy or allow someone else the sheer pleasure of initiating her, he can’t resist.
As Janie begins to fall in love, witnessing a true power exchange causes her the painful realization that touching Cole’s heart is beyond her dreams.
When Janie leaves him, can Cole open his heart to the woman he truly loves? And will she be willing to handle all of Cole?

Slow start, Janie needs to grow up a little more, and Cole was a jerk for most of it. He did a good job of training her, but was such a douche about other things.
This is the first book that I have read by Marie.. Most of the time, I thought Cole was a jerk and didn’t give Janie a fair chance. Then again, to me, I think that Janie could have acted a little more mature if that was the way that she wanted to be treated. I thought the first half of the book moved slow, but it picked up towards the end and then the characters started to seem more developed and fit together better.
The build up to their story had some inconsistencies that really annoyed me, apart from that the book was entertaining and the chemistry between the 2 main characters was good.
I found it to be a decent story. I found some issues in my view that could have led to a better developed tale. I think Janie was a nicely written character but I wasn't convinced who Cole was. I found his character to be weak for a dom. I thought he could have been developed differently. I did like Janie's work aspect and how it would have added a lot to the tension and elements of the book. I didn't like the quick clean up of the conflicts at the end. It felt too hurried and too neat. I would have liked there to be more development of the catharsis and how the resolution would impact the characters.
Master Cole is the first novel I've read by Marie Tuhart, and I happy to report that she writes well, which has become a delight to find in BDSM romance ever since the poorly written 50 Shades series hit the shelves, and I found this an enjoyable, quick, and sexy read. It gets 4 stars from this reader.
We first meet Cole Daniels as he shoves his way through the crowd at Whips, a BDSM sex club. He's there to rescue Janie, someone he's known for years and who reminds him of his sister. She's strapped down to a spanking bench, too tightly restrained, and the incompetent, wannabe Dom behind her is just about to paddle her. When Cole sees fear in her eyes, he gets the Dom wannabe kicked out of the club, gets Janie out of there, and takes her to his home, which she'd shared ever since returning home from college 7 years earlier.
We soon learn that both of their fathers were close friends, were both into the lifestyle, and that Janie's father was Cole's mentor when he expressed an interest in BDSM. When Janie's father died, he charged his best friend, Cole's father, with looking after her. When Cole's father died, he asked Cole to take over as her ward and protector. He's been attracted to her all along, but also considers her to be very naive and very much like his younger sister, Sally, who we learn more about later in the novel.
When a curious, 19-year-old Janie thought she was alone in the house, she walked into Cole's unlocked playroom, only to find that it was occupied by Cole and his girlfriend at the time, Natalie, and Janie was both intrigued and turned on by what she witnessed. Once she left for college, she read everything she could about the lifestyle. Her friend and roommate, Alicia, was equally curious, and the two soon became best friends and talked openly with one another.
The night Cole found Janie at Whips, there was little he could do to stop her, but he knew the risks she faced of being getting hurt and injured by a sadistic, and poorly trained Dom. At age 26, she's an adult and there's nothing he can do to stop her, but he realizes that the only way he can keep her safe as she explores her own sexuality is to become her Dom/mentor and train her in BDSM practices himself. Keeping things safe, sane and consensual, he makes sure she sets limits, knows about safe words, signs a contract, and then her lessons begin--and Cole is moving way too slow for Janie, and he's already informed her up front that emotions will not be involved in her training. Ha!
What follows is, in this reader's opinion, a rather mild introduction for the uninitiated into BDSM, and yes, there are graphic sex scenes, and yes, they're hot, but none of them delve into the darker aspects of the lifestyle. As Janie's lessons slowly continue, Cole struggles hard to keep his distance physically and emotionally, while Janie is and has been in love with him all along, and wants more from him sexually and emotionally.
While I found the pacing of the novel rather slow, and while I would have preferred more drama and more internal and external conflict and action, I did like the way the author took her time in fleshing out (no pun intended) the makeup of these two characters, their feelings, what drew them into the BDSM lifestyle, and what drew them to each other. It was, in essence, a sexier, kinkier twist on the traditional friends-to-lovers trope, and if you're curious about BDSM and want to read more about it, this novel is a good place to start.
I voluntarily read an advance reader copy of this novel. The opinions expressed are my own.
I am giving this book a 2.25 star rating. This is the story of Janie and Cole. Janie wants to learn more about the BSDM lifestyle. She is frustrated that he refuses to talk to her concerning that lifestyle. However, Cole does not want her to get mixed up the wrong Dom so he decides to teach her himself. He wants no emotions to get in the way, not knowing that Janie has been in love with him for years.
This is a typical story. There was nothing spectacular about it. It was pretty predictable. Janie basically blackmails him into teaching her. Cole still sees her as the teenage girl he grew up with. If he did not teach her then she would find someone who would. Cole does not want to get emotionally involved, but guess what? He does. He realizes that he has been in love with her since she was sixteen. He was battling himself. He thinks that Janie was "too sweet and too young for him. He would protect her, even from himself".
You can see some chemistry developing in the story but not enough to keep me hooked in the plot. I wish the author would have developed their relationship beyond the D/s aspect. The characters really did not get to know each other intimately enough outside of sex. They wanted to be open with each other, but they were both holding secrets.
As stated before, it was a typical story. It was a quick read. There was not much angst going on to keep my attention. It got boring for me around 90% of it, especially when it came to Janie's last journal entry. I felt towards the end the author was rushing the story line and creating ridiculous angst to try to keep it going. I thought this book would have been better as a happily ever for now than a happily ever after. Janie wanted Cole's love, emotions, and a power exchange. That would take time and I did not think the author did not put the time to develop the growth in that type of relationship. This was a 3 star until the end and it was just too rushed for me. I would recommend for a quick read only. The substance of the book left me lacking.
*I received an ARC from Netgalley for an honest review. All reviews are my own opinions.*
Whew, isn't the cover sexy? I love it. Don't worry that is one of the rare time where the book is as hot as the cover.
In the beginning we meet Master Cole, who pretty much personified everything I that comes to my mind when I think of the alpha male. He stormed into the BDSM club and "rescued" Janie. At first I was annoyed. Who does he think he is, she's her own person and she can do what she wants? I was pretty frustrated on her behalf. Then I got to know Cole better. I could understand why he did what he did that night. Not only did I forgive him but I might have fallen in love with him. Just a little. Instead of thinking of him as possessive and controlling, he was protective and sweet.
Over the book we learn that Cole and Janie grew up together but grew apart as Janie went to university and they both navigated their way through some hard times. Cole has this need to protect Janie and we don't fully understand it until the end of the book.
This book was hot. The steamy scenes were plentiful. The descriptions of some things in Cole's playroom led to some Google searches that will make the NSA blush.
What made the book awesome was the emotional connection between Cole and Janie. When they were doing the BDSM stuff both in and out of the playroom, it was always obvious Cole cared about her comfort. Writing sexy scenes is one thing, writing sexy scenes where there's impeccable communication is another. I appreciated every time Cole checked in with Janie and make sure she was still ok with everything he was doing to her.
Master Cole was a refreshing twist on the overdone friends to lovers trope. It was well-written and a quick and easy read. I'd recommend it for anyone who is looking for something a bit naughty but not too dark.
Hey everyone! This ebook was kindly provided by the author/publisher via Netgalley prior to release in exchange for my honest review.
As the story starts, Cole is pushing through people at a BDSM sex club to rescue Janie. He's known her for years and she shouldn't be here-it reminds him too much of his late sister. When he finds her, she's strapped to a spanking bench by a incompetent Dom ready to inflict real harm with a paddle! Scared of what this Dom could've done to her, Cole gets him kicked out of the club, and takes Janie back to their shared home.
Both of their father's were best friends and involved in the BDSM lifestyle. Janie's father was Cole's mentor once he wanted to learn the finer points of being a Dominant. After both fathers passed, it was up to Cole to protect Janie. He's always been attracted to her. He also considers her to be very innocent and sheltered. She definitely needs protecting-even from him.
When Janie first saw the playroom in Cole's house so many years ago, she was curious. Once in college, she did a lot of investigating BDSM along with her best friend, Alicia. After Cole dragged Janie from the sex club, she demands he train her or she will find someone who will. Knowing there is no way he will let her train with someone possibly unsafe, he relents. They sign a contract of limits, safe words, and expectations-the biggest being no emotional entanglements.
Well you can guess where this friends to lovers trope goes from there! Janie had feelings going in, Cole did too, but he lied to himself about what they were. There was a lot of background information given, and I felt it kind of made the story drag somewhat. I was looking for a little bit more interaction between them as Cole was going extremely slow with Janie's training. The lessons were strictly entry level BDSM, so if you are unsure about this type of book, feel free to jump into this one.
MASTER COLE is a stand-alone, friends-to-lovers, erotic romance.
Wonderfully written with fascinating characters, I was captivated from the first paragraph and didn’t want to leave at the end. IMHO, this is a love story with a BDSM backdrop.
Now you know I don’t like to recap the story. I want you to read it and enjoy it as much as I did. … and I did enjoy it!
That said, if Janie has done all of the reading claimed to prepare for her foray into BDSM how is that she doesn’t understand that honesty is the backbone? Hiding her major, her occupation, her life from her Dom isn’t being honest. How can she expect him to keep her safe (SSC) if he doesn’t know what he’s up against? He can’t know her triggers if he doesn’t know her life.
Another drawback I would mention is that I was a disappointed at the lack of research. This author has written several books involving BDSM and couldn’t find out that the x-frame” is called a St. Andrew’s cross? Tsk – tsk! (BTW, another word you may want to know: Janie and her friend, Alicia, would be called a pair of SAMi’s for the way they were obviously manipulating Cole into taking them to the club.)
Note: while I was given this book as a gifted ARC, my opinions are my own and are given freely.
Title: MASTER COLE Series: N/A Category /Genre: Erotica, BDSM Recommended for: 18+ due to sexual content Grammar/editing: A – near perfect Received from: Marie Tuhart (as an gifted copy)
Friends to more in the blink of an eye! The friendship and familiarity of the main characters makes this a more personal feeling book than you might often get right off the bat. I loved their connection, and I felt for each of them as they felt their way through where this was all going to lead for them. It's a pretty mild read in the world of BDSM, but the close-knit relationship made it special.
Janie Murphy has been curious about the BDSM lifestyle for years now, ever since she got a glimpse of her life-long friend Cole's masterful playroom! She's living back in town now and just so happens to be staying with Cole, and she's determined she's going to get him to open his eyes to the woman in front of him even if she has to play with someone else to prove her point!
Cole Daniels is furious when he has to go and drag Janie out of a BDSM club. Yes, she's a grown woman and can make her own choices, but he's not going to let any other man touch her! He won't admit his feelings about her, but he makes a deal to teach her the things she wants to know in a loving way. Something happened in his past that made him close off a part of his heart, and even now when things are so good with Janie, he can't release his feelings and give her the love that she wants. It breaks her heart, but she's willing to walk away if she has to!
Having never seen a playroom before, after Janie Murphy gets a glimpse inside her best friend's special playroom, she is now intrigued...and interested. Her attraction to him sparks a little more and she feels she's ready for that added something that Cole Daniels seems to be wrapped up in. Only does he take the bait when he has to drag Janie out of a very prominent BDSM club, does he take her bait and become her teacher. The more Cole and Janie get wrapped up together, the more she realizes she has fallen head over heals in love with Cole. The only problem is, he isn't interested in love. When Janie realizes this, she leaves, leaving her heart behind her.
When Cole realizes she's gone, he also realizes his heart went with her. He just isn't sure if Janie can handle all of him and his love. While Cole determines whether or not he can give his heart to Janie completely, she gets further and further away from him.
This book kept me reading! I did not put the book down until I finished it. Cole and Janie's story is not a normal or unique story, but the bind they have, and have had, since childhood, is one not many people have. I wanted to see the two of them together, regardless of the situation.. I wanted to smack Cole upside the head when he let Janie leave without immediately going after her.
I received this book free in return for my honest review.
Customer Review 5.0 out of 5 starsMaster and Lover Bysewsummoreon March 27, 2018 Format: Paperback I received a free ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review. This was a great read! Cole Daniels had been involved in the BDSM scene for a number of years, introduced to it by his father, who had his best friend tutor him in the role of a dominant. Before he died, his tutor asked Cole to be there and care for his daughter Janie. While she was much younger and then in college, he had no problems caring for her but after she returned from college and moved in with him his attraction to her grew and try as he might he could not dismiss those feelings. When she decided to investigate the BDSM scene she asked Cole to train her and against his better judgement he agreed under certain conditions. Cole's character was very complex, his attraction towards Janie made him want to protect her from harm and from himself, but her character made this very difficult with her hero worship of him. This was an intensely emotional story, the secrets that they hid from each other combined with the erotic BDSM scenes meant there was a lot of drama in the story which made it such an addictive read
Title: Master Cole Author: Marie Truhart Publisher: Trifecta Publishing House Date of Publishing: February 14, 2018
This book given to me by NetGalley and Trifecta Publishing House in exchange for my honest review.
Cole has known Janie since she was a young teenage girl and can not seem to come to terms with the fact that she is now a grown woman. Curious about the BDSM lifestyle Janie is bent on exploring it and her own sexuality. Cole is equally determined to stop her until she gives him the ultimatum. Train her himself or she will find someone who will. How will he respond?
Each has tragedy and loss to overcome. Cole has denied his darker side for years in order to keep Janie safe, Now each must open to each other before the past tears them apart. Fast paced and well defined characters bring the story to life. The passion jumps off the pages and will have you reaching for that cold drink just to cool down. Strong language, BDSM aspects with explicit sexual content.
I gave "Master Cole" a 4.25 out of a total of 5 stars.
I loved this book, the scenes between Janie and Cole are smoking hot that they make you blush but this book is not just sex it also contains a great storyline where the author introduces us to very realistic characters and also points to sensitive topics that again are realistic that it shows the author researched the subject. Janie is by far one of my favorite characters, she is a strong and independent woman but is not afraid to point to the fact that she wants to be a submissive and I loved that after what happen to her friend in college she chose a job that would help women understand more about themselves and not feel shamed about their sexuality. And then there is Cole who is such a strong dominant male on the outside but that has clearly been ridden with guilt that has made him unable to give 100% of himself because of fear that he might hurt a love one. Their last scene on the book was not only kinky and sexy but also beautiful. I received a complimentary copy of this book and I'm voluntarily leaving a review.
I received a copy from NetGalley; this is my honest review. #MasterCole #NetGalley -BE AWARE: the story skims around gang rape, sado-masochism, and family violence on top of BDSM. -Loved the way Janie and Cole are totally domesticated around each other, like a real couple, but are not. They have a schedule to play, but also for making meals and the rest. -Loved the way Cole, even if he's the perfect Dom, doesn't mind taking care of Janie like she's a China vase. Also the way he introduced the ways to BDSM to Janie - one step at a time. -The story is believable and is unrolling at the perfect pace. It also gives you a glimpse to a good club and a bad club. Make your research before choosing! -Like the other book I read from Marie Tuhart, the editing was done by professionals and it shows. -I learned something: I knew that BDSM goes for Bondage & Discipline, Sadism & Masochism. But B&D is not the same as S&M. You might be into all of them but could only like one or the other. Both are a Dom/Sub relationship.
This is the first book by Marie Tuhart that I have read, and it will not be the last. I was so impressed with this story. It completely absorbed me and I read it in 2 sittings(only because it was so late when I started reading it). Janie is intererested in BDSM and attends her first club, Whips. There she is hoping to gain some insight and possibly experience. That hope is dwindled when Cole, her friend barges in,scoops her up and takes her back to their house. Cole is a big brother type figure and promised his father and Janie's father he would protect her.Now after their deaths, he intends to keep that promise even if it means he himself will have to take her under his wing and teach her as his submissive. What happens when their feelings become blurred? Cole has demons that are holding him back from commitment and that might sever his relationship with Janie forever. MASTER COLE is a fun read and a great escape from every day life. Master Cole is hot!!!
I voluntarily reviewed an Advanced Readers Copy of this book.
I was captivated by the first chapter of this book! Janie and Cole are life long friends having grown up together since their fathers were best friends. They have secretly been lusting after each other for years. He still thinks of her as his "little sister" despite her growing into a sexy attractive woman. She is intrigued by the secret room she found him with a former girlfriend when she graduated high school. This is the story of a master who finally finds a sub who trusts him completely and they both discover how amazing a little kink can be! The story line was great, I found myself vested in the characters and their story. I felt like It was easy to read and the characters were well developed. I enjoyed how the control shifted back from him to her although she was the sub. I was sad when it ended. That is the sign of a good book! Great work!
Communication is vital in any relationship but doubly so in a BDSM relationship. While Cole tried to get Janie to use the journal so he could analyze her feelings, she held back and kept things to herself. Cole was no better since he kept how his sister's death happened and how it still affected his decisions. These two needed to learn to talk to and trust the other with the important things. Without that communication there could be no true "power exchange" and true D/s relationship. Will they figure things out or will someone with a "vendetta" take the chance for a HEA away from them? I enjoyed this story a lot. I hope Ms. Tuhart plans to return to "Whips" since there were a few secondary characters I would love to read more about.
*I received an Advance Reader's Copy of this book from Hidden Gems which I am voluntarily reviewing*
Marie Tuhart's latest book, Master Cole is my latest favorite of her books. This story has so much going just right to make it a book the reader won't want to put down.
Janie Murphy is a strong, determined woman. I like that in the heroine of a story. Cole Daniels is hot, sexy and dominant and I love that in a male hero, but Master Cole is so much more than what his physical appearance implies. He is thoughtful, caring and very protective. All he needed to do in this story to be just about perfect was to get his head on straight and face and defeat his inner demons. Fortunately Janie is strong enough and caring enough to get Cole straightened out. To find out how Janie takes on Cole's inner demons and wins you have to read the story. Bonus is it is also a very steamy and sexy read.
Cole's father became Janie's guardian when her father died and then the job fell to him when his father died un-expectantly. Now Cole is faced with more than the dilemma of how to keep his feelings for Janie from becoming known. Janie however, decides to force his hand when she decides she wants to become part of the BDSM lifestyle. Of course Cole knows there is no one other than himself he can trust with her but can he trust himself to just be her teacher? This book was well written and did not use sensationalism that some authors resort to when "trying" to write a BDSM story. I would definitely recommend this book for anyone who wants a true to life storyline.
I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest and totally voluntary review.
I received an ARC of this story through Hidden Gems and this is my honest and voluntary review. I felt the start of this story was very abrupt and a bit confusing. Normally I prefer books that jump right in to really get you hooked, but this one could have used just a bit more of an introduction to how Janie and Cole ended up in the club that night. As the story progressed, there were small references to certain parts of their respective pasts but never enough to get me really invested in the characters which just left them feeling a bit flat through the story. I also feel there could have been a bit more substance and struggle to their HEA, it seemed rushed at the end and too easy. Overall, not a bad story but it lacks depth.
I enjoyed this book that takes a relative informative exploration of BDSM relationship focusing on the BD and D/s aspects. It also deals with consent, informed consent, and abuse nicely contrasted with a relationship of one of Janie's clients. The H&h were both very likable and both very caring towards each other. Lots of steam scenes. The pace of the story was a little slow at times, but does pick up again. The story was well written and well developed. Overall, a good story. * I received an ARC of this book from NetGalley and this is my voluntary and honest review.
I received an ARC copy of this book and I voluntarily chose to review it. I loved this book. I am a Marie Tuhart fan, I know I will get a great story from her. This is a friends to lovers story with BDSM thrown into the mix. Please remember this fact when getting this book. There isn't anything hardcore but if your not into BDSM you shouldn't get this one. Story is well written and it deals with abusive relationships and guilt issues. I don't do spoilers so that is all I will say. I loved the relationship between Janie and Cole.
Awesome Story! Janie had known Cole since she was sixteen, she had always had feelings for him, but could she convince him that she was the woman for him. Cole was afraid to give his heart to Janie and have her hurt like his sister, he couldn't stand to see someone else he loved suffer like that. Janie wants to be independent, but desires to have Cole dominate her in the bedroom. This story pulls you in and keeps your attention until the very end. I didn't want to put it down. I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The book blurb gives a really good idea of the story. When Cole agrees to train Janie as a submissive, he thinks he can keep from getting emotionally involved but that soon proves impossible so he blows a little hot and cold throughout the story as he fights his feelings. Janie is in love with Cole and genuinely wants to explore the submissive side of herself but fears he will never be able to give her what she needs. Their story is steamy and sweet and I enjoyed it very much.
I am voluntarily reviewing an advance reader copy of this book.
Master Cole by Marie Tuhart is the story of Janie Murphy and Cole Daniels. Janie went to a BDSM club where Cole found her and pulled her out of it. They were friends and Janie has never been involved in BDSM but she wants to try it. She taunts him to teach her if he doesn't want her going somewhere else. This opens their relationship into another level but one that end up enjoying. This was a really hot romance!!
This is the 4th book I've read by Marie Tuhart and I look forward to reading more of her work, I thought Janie and Cole were very believable characters. I thought the growth they both showed personally and in relationship to the BDSM dynamic was well developed. I liked some of the secondary characters and would love to see them get a HEA too. I received an advance reader copy from Netgalley.
Janie decides to go to a BDSM club where Cole frequents knowing he will find out she is there and try to push his buttons. He does find out she is there and drags her out. She wants him to teach her about BDSM and Cole is reluctant because of family connections and other demons he has. The chemistry between Cole and Janie is steamy. This book was great and I can’t wait to read other books my Marie Tuhart. I received this advanced copy form the publisher and NetGalley for an honest review.
Well...it certainly got your attention. The 10 chapter length was perfect; the storyline was good—but was annoying places. Cole basically was an idiot while Janie acted so immature at times, it was a wonder they ever got together! Having said that, I actually really enjoyed the story. If you’re looking fo s read with some kink and a HEA—Master Cole is a great choice. (I voluntarily reviewed an advance reader copy of this book and enjoyed it a lot.) ❤️❤️
