There is quite a backstory here and a lot of it is in the previous book of this series, but I think one can read this without having read book 1.
I cannot say that I liked the hero, Nick, at all. His lack of self-awareness and plain idiocy at times, when shit was bleedingly obvious, did get very annoying. Adelaide was a much stronger character. She had gone through a great deal, much of it very traumatic, and all of it the fault of the hero, by the way. I really felt she deserved a better man than Nick. Certainly, one with more strength of character. Compounding this, Adelaide's endless capacity to forgive this whiney, self-absorbed arsehole who spent a lot of the book blaming others for the things that went wrong in his life was infuriating, as was her self-loathing for her "lustful" impulses. This was never dealt with, and her despair over her "wickedness" became boring.
Having read all four books in this series, I found weak heroes to be a common thread in all the books, so beware of that if you continue on with the others. It's all very well for heroes to be flawed, but if they never develop the requisite strength to deal with life's catastrophes, then they don't deserve a good woman. And if a woman does not expect a man to apologise and learn from his mistakes, and does not hold him to a high standard, she cannot complain if she does not get a good man.
The writing was adequate.

Overall, this was a nice read, but the heroine's guilt over feeling lust felt a little excessive and that made the ending a little unsatisfying.

Although this is considered book #2, you do not have to read the first in order to understand and enjoy this one. Yes, this story does feature characters we first meet in Twice as Wicked, but that is all. This book stands alone on its own.

I have to say I enjoyed this story, even if the "man has feelings for woman, but will set them aside to help her find a better man" story-line has become one of the most popular in this genre. I feel like given the past history between these two gave them another layer and made them more interesting. How would they handle that? Would they be able to keep the scandal from catching up to them?

This is an author who knows what they are doing. The characters are complex (even if I want to smack them sometimes), and the story is engaging to the point where I found myself completely engrossed in the pages (I finished in a little less than two days). There were a couple of things that I wish could have been done differently, or things that I felt really didn't really add to the overall story, but this is one of those novels that will be easily enjoyed by fans of historical romance novels. I can't wait to read more from this author!

DISCLAIMER: I received a complimentary copy of this novel in exchange for my honest review. This has not affected my review in any way. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are 100% my own.

My year of trying new to me histrom authors continues and Elizabeth Bright has been such a delightful discovery for me. This is my second book by her, I thoroughly enjoyed the first one and loved this one even more. It's really good that I read this in order bc Nick and Adelaide have a lot of backstory, some of which is laid out in book one which features the romance between Nate and Alice (the initials should be clue that we're dealing with 2 sets of twins here!). Anyway, this was so good, angsty and on the edge of my seat with how these 2 would find their way to each other. I loved it.

This book was even better than the first in the series. The characters were interesting. I really felt for Nicholas and was infuriated t that everyone tried to downplay the lifelong hurt he felt after being tossed aside by his family. Plus how do you not love a heroine who tries to hide and read in the middle of a ball? I would have liked more about their initial attraction in the past but I still loved this unusual take on a second chance romance.

A great addition to the Wicked Secrets series. So, we were all lead to believe that Adelaide might have died but she comes back and needs to become respectable before scandal catches up with her. Nicholas needs to maintain his respectability so he can get his reward from the Crown. I love Ms. Bright’s writing style. It is engaging and funny. Secrets, misunderstandings, and cake fights, this story has it all. Seeing Nicholas try to maintain control over his feelings is the highlight of the story for me.

I still have more questions. Will Montrose see a happy ending? He deserves one. What about Freesia? Who does she marry? Also, looking forward to the adventures of Wessex and Eliza. Love Wessex.

I received a complimentary copy from the publisher through NetGalley.

My Thoughts:

This book is easily as good if not better than the first book in the series, the author's debut novel.
Though there are characters in this one that also appeared in "Twice As Wicked" it can be read as a standalone without skipping a beat. Once I started reading it I found it hard to put down.

Adelaide Bursnell is a very determined lady. Although she was previously ruined and bore a child she has returned from the dead as everyone believed both her and the child perished in childbirth.

Nicholas Eastwood has been awarded a title due to his service to the crown. The title is an even higher one than the one his twin (older) brother holds due to the circumstances of his birth.
He has returned and is no longer in service or a spy. Finding and making right all the wrongs of his past to Adelaide is his greatest wish. However he has been told she is dead. Imagine his surprise to open his door to find the lady there and very much alive. Not only is she alive but she is pointing a very deadly looking pistol at him.
How will this sometimes comical scenario end?
I gave this very delightful book 4.75 of 5.0 stars for storyline and characterization and a sensual rating of 3.75 of 5.0 flames.
The intimacy in this book is less heated due to the nature of this couple's past.
I received a complimentary digital ARC of this book from the publisher to read and review. This in no way affected my opinion of this title which I read and reviewed voluntarily.

A lovely second chance story, this is the second in the series & although Nate & Alice do feature this book could well stand on its own, however both books are so good I’d recommend reading in order. Nick is still deeply hurt by the way his family has treated him, Adelaide is almost ignored by her father. They are very likeable characters & it took some time for them both to realise how they felt about each other. I love a hero trying to be selfless & saying he will give her to a better man, a heroine who likes to read in a corner of a ballroom, you have to love the pair. I enjoy an epilogue but who is Freesia’s husband? I hope she has her story

Lady Gone Wicked is the second book in the Wicked Secrets series. The first book introduces some of the characters you’ll meet in this one, but it isn’t necessary to have read to read this installment. Of course, I would definitely say read it, Alice and Nathaniels’ story is a great one!

Adelaide Bursnell was believed to have died during childbirth as well as the child. Her family mourned her, her sister Alice set out to avenge the wrongs done to her sister. Now that Adelaide has came back out of hiding, the scandal of her out of wedlock pregnancy with Nicholas Eastwood’s baby is not going to be far behind her. Now she must find a husband before that happens.

The sisterly bond/love between Adelaide and Alice I enjoyed so much in the previous book. It was clear how much Alice loved her sister, and she was bound and determined to avenge her. So, it didn’t surprise me when she opened her arms and heart to Adelaide when she learned she in fact still alive and well. Adelaide was just as sassy and brash, and certainly has no problem say what she wanted. Sometimes it did get her some stares. God, how I adored this girl!

Nicholas Eastwood was the twin brother of Nathaniel, but he his the blacksheep of the family. The outcast. Just like his family, most of the towns people even looked down on him. I think that he had a good heart though. He was willing to step aside and so that Adelaide could find a “suitable” husband. Tell me there isn’t some good in him somewhere?! There is a lot more to him than all that rough exterior he holds onto.

The writing in this is such that you get swept up in it all, I didn’t realize how fast I was going through the pages. You can’t help but to feel for Adelaide and Nicholas both. They have history together, not all good but not all bad either and the chemistry is off the charts but neither wants to give in. There are laughable moments and somber ones. And following Adelaide on her journey to find herself again and see how everything worked out for her was engaging right till the end.

I adore this series, and I am anxious to see who we are introduced to next. The setting, the characters and the romance make this a book that fans of historical romance will devour.

Miss Adelaide Bursnell is a twin, she fell in love with Nick, and had a baby. She was sent to a convent to have her baby. Nicholas Eastwood was a twin also, but he was a spy and soldier for the crown. Adelaide was thought dead for a year and half, until she went to see her sister and she was visiting her fiancé. Nick had gotten Adelaide pregnant over two years ago.
I believe this is a unique kind of story. How often do you read about a spy, the spy does not spy any more. Meets the girl, he ruined and they are still trying to protect her and she ,him. There are certainly some very interesting twist. both sets of parents are trying to make it thru Nate and Alice's
wedding.. The author has done a fabulous job of keeping it all together and eventually explaining it all. I really loved where she shot him (Nick). There is humor, maybe a little mayhem, especially when cakes are thrown. I think it was a very good book.

First off, I love the books cover. Second I love the start off of the book with a gunshot. The book was entertaining to me in certain parts of the story. Nick, Nathaniel, and Alice I thought were all strong characters. Adelaide kind of threw my opinion off about her when she quote unquote, swoon after she fired the gun.
What did she think what was going to happen? The dialogue and narrative was great. The narrative was simple and stuck to the point of the story. Great job with the book.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I have not read the previous entry in the series, but this is not a problem for me as the author has crafted a story that stands perfectly well on its own.

Nicholas Eastwood is the black sheep of the family. Thanks to his heroism in war, he is to be rewarded with a title that surpasses that of his father and older brother. All he must do is remain scandal-free while the House of Lords and the Prince Regent deliberate.

Adelaide Bursnell, is believed dead by her family after she is sent away in secrecy and disgrace. Returning now to hold the man who seduced her accountable, she seeks to regain all that she has lost.
Can these two people but their past behind them and avoid the scandal that hovers around them?

This is an interesting read with well-developed characters.I would recommend it to anyone who loves a devilish Rakehell and a determined woman.

Adelaide has finally returned to the land of the living. Her plans to murder Nick in an accident thwarted in discovering her target was actually his twin brother and her twin sister’s fiancé. What’s a girl to do when the subject of your ruin turns out to have a twin of all things? And marrying your sister to top it all off! Planning to assimilate herself back into her family as the perfectly respectable, perfectly behaved, perfect daughter, she sets out to find a husband with Nick’s help. Wicked inclinations must be resisted at all costs. He promises to marry her if they cannot accomplish their task, but swearing to present only the best of any possible suitors, he is confident he can match her with someone truly worthy of her. Plan in hand, they set out to secure her future. But passion flared between them for a reason and trying to keep that undeniable flame at bay proves impossible. While they may both long to be together, their futures are headed in a different direction. There's also that teensy secret Adelaide must guard at all costs … even from Nick. Revealing her truth would mean certain ruin all over again and she’d never be able to come out of such gossip a second time.

Nicholas has finally found her. He knew she was lurking about and she finally turns up on his doorstep of all places – and shoots him. What a welcoming. He planned to marry her to save her from ruin, but that is not what she wants. On the cusp of attaining everything he desires, he admits that marriage would mean a quick death to his plans of a title and recognition, so he relents and agrees to aid her in achieving her goals. He begins with a list in which everyone will be compared to … him. As a former spy and lover to Adelaide, he would know exactly what she needs in a match, so why not? As the end to their time frame draws near, Nick finds fault with every possible match. However, when the suitor who seems to be the match Adelaide needs turns out to be the very man who is behind getting Nick the title he covets, he bows out. But things do not sit right with Nick and suddenly he realizes that Adelaide can have no other perfect match because that role lies solely on him. But the truth of her secret could tear them apart for good, so when it all spills out, Nick is forced with a huge decision which will mean confronting the demons of his past or continuing to run from them. The curse of the second son may have eluded to certain death for a first son, but it has also played a huge part in the inability of Nick to live his life freely.

Oh, how I love this series! I absolutely love to discover historical romance of this caliber. Ms. Bright is a refreshing dose of exactly what every historical romance should aspire to be! I fell hopelessly in love with the Wicked Secrets series when first I encountered Nathaniel and Alice in book 1, about 3 years ago. It took me a while, but I am finally righting a serious wrong in not getting to this next installment sooner than now. Had I realized I was sitting on this ARC version, I would have corrected the oversight immediately. I laughed continually throughout this book as I did in the initial installment. The delightful wit and banter were an absolute treasure within these pages. I recall much of the first book fairly well considering the years that have passed since I read it. I made several predictions at that time. One I will reveal after I have continued with this series to see if I was correct. The other was that Nicholas and Adelaide were more than just a quick affair - despite Alice's belief to the contrary. Regardless, Adelaide is sent away due to her condition, then had actually faked her death and reappeared only to attempt to kill Nate, believing him to be Nick. Confused? It's actually quite a delightful series! What a fun spin that two sets of twins should fall in love with one another. Of course, no one revealed the twin factor initially, so when each discovered that the person they were madly in love with actually had a twin, it was quite a spectacle. But I digress in reminiscing about the first book as well as this one. I will say that while this book can be read as a stand-alone, I highly recommend reading in order if for nothing else than the pure joy in meeting these characters from the very beginning, easily welcoming them back into your own reading world each time they reappear in this fantastic tale as it progresses. Although I adore each of these couples, I have been utterly enchanted with Eliza and Wessex from the start and absolutely cherished each of their interactions. Unfortuneately, it seems as if I will still be waiting on those two to just come out and admit what everyone else can clearly see. If they never get together, I may die of heartbreak. And again, if I might say so myself, Wessex nearly steals the book for a second time. He’s simply fantastic! As evidenced by the lines I included above, there is no shortage of memorable thoughts and dialogue, but somehow Wessex always ends up with very nearly the best lines in the book. A man of minimal words, but frequently a life-altering effect. At this point, I suspect Wessex always has a reason for each move he makes and each word he chooses to bestow upon an individual. Time will reveal if I am correct in my prediction.

Maybe I should concentrate on Nick and Adelaide now. Finally. You can see how much this series has impacted me. I hope it has the same effect on each reader who chooses to immerse themselves in this brilliant world. If Alice and Nate are perfect for each other, then Adelaide and Nick are even more so. These two are exactly what the other needs, but their desire to run from past mistakes and haunting family legacies effectively squashes their ability to see through to a future together. And so they run … until they don’t. I believe, for Adelaide, a turning point was at the cake tasting party in which she overhears her sister acting like the wicked being she herself is trying so desperately not to be. For Adelaide, her attraction to Nick is the singularly most wicked part of her personality. That desire led to ruination and love for a man she cannot have and so, in her mind, wicked inclinations are completely unacceptable. Consequently, a cake fight ensues which may have been the absolute best scene of the entire book. Both Nick and Nate admit how turned on they are in a rather hilarious way and I could not stop laughing out loud – much to my family’s amusement. I do not believe that Adelaide’s secret was much of a shocking revelation, but I did enjoy how things played out as they took a direction I have not yet come across. This is one of Ms. Bright’s many talents … putting her own unique spin on a story in a new and engaging way. I found the Bursnell parents horrific. While their behaviors were pretty much in line with societal beliefs for that time, I’m more of a romantic and would like to think that a parent's love for their child would trump society standards. Sure, that’s the bit of dreamer in me, but it’s who I am. Because of their constant nagging on Adelaide and inability to see that Alice had flaws, I despised them. Necessary characters, mostly, but definitely the bummer aspect of the book. The complete opposite of their awful attitudes was the refreshing enlightenment provided by Nick’s father. Initially, I wasn’t entirely fond of him, but after he lets his guard down a bit and confesses his own regret (especially the beautiful epilogue), my heart went out to him. Two completely opposite sides of the fence these parents were.

What I found to be a welcome addition to the book was the slight time frame jump in the final chapter and then the eight-year jump in the epilogue. Ms. Bright left absolutely nothing to chance and tied everything up nicely. But here’s the clincher. She did it in a way that spoiled absolutely nothing for any future reads. Even Freesia could still have her own book – and dare I say … the Bursnell/Eastwood children could continue the series on for generations to come. I know I am jumping far ahead of myself as this is merely the second book in the series, but I can see so much set up for future reading enjoyment. I wouldn’t cry one bit if this series turned into something like Johanna Lindsey's Mallory family saga. The potential is most definitely present. I have no doubt. If I am lucky, I will be correct in my predictions. I have done well so far. From Alice to Nate, Adelaide to Nick, Freesia, and (hopefully soon) Eliza and Wessex, if you have yet to experience Ms. Brights’s enrapturing Wicked Secrets series, I strongly encourage you to fix that alarming mistake posthaste. Loathe as I am to admit it, I believe I will have to wait for Eliza and Wessex to proclaim their obvious love as the next couple seemed to have been set up in the final chapter of this book. *sobs* Absence makes the heart grow fonder … I suppose … maybe. *still sobbing* #BentonWessex #ElizaSebastian Despite my momentary state of grief, any lover of HR can easily call Ms. Bright a go-to author and should add her books to the top of their TBR list. I can promise with confidence that regret will be the last of any feelings provoked within this enchanting series.

I received this ARC from NetGalley and voluntarily chose to write a review.

Objectively speaking, this was a decent book, worthy of at least 3 stars. The writing is excellent, but the trope in this book is simply not my jam. It's also hard to root for a love story between two characters who are absolutely unbearable. Elizabeth Bright is a fantastic writer, but not even good writing could make me like Nick and Adelaide and the...secret Adelaide kept from him.

Nick and Adelaide are both flawed characters. However, they are not endearing like Alice and (especially) Nate. I got more excitement from appearances from Nate, Alice, Eliza and Wessex than anything else related to Nick and Adelaide. Nick's character is pretty easy to understand, but his actions from two years ago and his overall behaviour towards Adelaide were the opposite of swoon worthy. Adelaide was a liar through and through, completely denying Nick's absolute right to know the truth. Her damn secret felt like the elephant in the room, sucking all of my enjoyment of the story. Every chapter, this cursed secret was nagging me at the back of my mind. On top of that, Nick and Adelaide barely talked to each other, which made their whole arrangement heavy with unresolved tension, and not the good kind of tension. Adelaide and Nick were equally wrong in my eyes.

It took him a while, but at least Nick realized exactly how callously and recklessly he'd acted two years ago and how that affected Adelaide. Nick started changing and making an effort to be straightforward (i.e. he told her point blank that he was still attracted to her), but Adelaide just kept getting worse and worse. She was so distrustful of Nick, which made sense, but she couldn't even be bothered to give him a chance even after he started making an effort. Nor did she try to open up to him and then had the nerve to complain that Nick does not form "proper emotional attachments." The most annoying thing about Adelaide is how her way of thinking and reasoning had no logic! I was always so confused when I was in her head. Her reasoning is not only illogical, but it also stems from selfishness. It's all about her and not the fact that Nick might want to know the truth. What he did to her was shitty, but what she did to him is equally shitty, if not worse. I thought she'd be better than that. She's always crying about her oh-so-sad life, but she does nothing to save herself. She just closes herself in her room and cries like the loser that she is. Also, the fact that she got jealous of her sister...that was just so distasteful. Alice made her choice and she made hers. Deal with it.

And just when Nick started turning out okay, he fucks up and gets mad about the wrong thing LOL.

What I liked: the supporting characters, Nick's relationship with Nate and his father, the epilogue and the answers to my questions from the last book. What I needed, aside from likable characters, was knowing how Nick made up with his mom. Plus, the relationship between Adelaide and her father was not deeply explored. There was zero meaningful communication there. Anyway, boy am I glad I'm done with this book. I need to reread Nate and Alice's book to cleanse my palate. I am really hoping the next book is Wessex and Eliza's!!! <3

Last fall I had the pleasure of reading an early copy of Twice as Wicked, the standalone "prequel" to Lady Gone Wicked. While Twice as Wicked primarily focused on the blossoming relationship between Alice and Nathaniel, it also introduced the tumultuous, scandalous love affair between Alice and Nathaniel's respective twins - Adelaide and Nicholas. Therefore, when I caught wind that Lady Gone Wicked would focus on them, I couldn't wait to dive in. I hoped a happy ending was in store!

The result? I did in fact receive my happily ever after; however, the story wasn't nearly as charming and addictive as its predecessor.

My first problem involved Adelaide and Nicholas. From what I saw in Twice As Wicked, I figured I would have no problem loving them. Unfortunately, that wasn't the case here. I found both to be rather bland. I knew that Adelaide was supposed to be strong, daring, and quick witted, but I just never truly felt it. She seemed more a woman who couldn't make up her mind. I especially couldn't stand how she strung Nicholas around. Yes, in some ways he did deserve it, but in other ways, she ended up being just as guilty as him. Nicholas I liked slightly more - there was something deliciously rakish about him - but again I just couldn't connect. He seemed very one dimensional, and I wish it would've have been easier to "feel" his feelings rather than just be told them.

The plot in Lady Gone Wicked mainly focuses on Adelaide and Nicholas' reunion as well as their return to their respective families. At first, I found both story lines to be interesting. The first scene in particular held a lot of promise, and I also liked catching up with previous characters, but the more the book went on, the more I began to loose interest. I wanted more action, more passion, more tension - I wanted to feel, to be excited. Ultimately I wanted it to be more like Twice as Wicked.

Overall, while Lady Gone Wicked does provide a satisfying conclusion to Adelaide and Nicholas' arc as well as Alice and Nathaniel's, it left something to be desired. Maybe I had too high of hopes considering how much I adored the prequel, but something here just didn't work for me.

Mixed feelings about this one at the beginning. Didn’t think much of Nick. Hated that he had been told that his child had died but never expressed any interest in the child. It seemed to take a long time for him to reckon with his & Adelaide’s (supposed) loss of a child or the magnitude of the pain his treatment of Adelaide had inflicted on her. For a while, I had trouble even seeing how Adelaide was going to be able to forgive Nick. But finally did get it & when he did, he made all the right moves.

Adelaide’s constant self-flagellation got a bit tiresome. Lusting after the man you love isn’t inherently wicked, but that’s easy to say in the 21st century. Given the standards of the time, what her relationship with Nick had cost her, the love and respect of her father and the separation with her son, Adelaide’s incessant self-labeling as “wicked” makes perfect sense.

Final thought—This is book 2 of a series of 4 books. I haven’t yet read Alice’s story, book 1; I started with book 4, Wessex & Eliza’s story. Enjoyed that one so much that I decided to read the rest. I know these books all are marketed as stand-alone novels, but I’m certain I would’ve enjoyed them a lot more if I had read them in order. Do yourself a favor—read them in order.

Be careful what you wish for, because it may come back at bite you in the end. Maybe someone should have warned Nicholas and Adelaide before their scandal began. Both have tragic pasts. Each has so much love to give but doesn't think they deserve to receive it. Victims of circumstance. Can two disillusioned hearts turn heartache into happily ever after? Amidst the scandal, betrayal, pain and darkness, lies a haunting tale of courage, hope and redemption. Unforgettable in every way.

Terrific Historical Romance

This historical is just terrific and I was very absorbed in the story. It has a very nice HEA and several steamy scenes that I thought were quite good. You will most likely enjoy it if you like historical romance to have a few steamy scenes to it.

Interesting, well written story. It did have a few places that the story dragged on. These story fillers could have easily been omitted. Over all good read #NetGalley #LadyGoneWicked

Miss Adelaide Bursnell has a big problem. She was sent away to France in shame to give birth to her child, fathered by Nicholas Eastwood. A torrid love affair with the soldier/spy left Adelaide with child and alone, but everyone thinks she died in childbirth. Nick never received her letter telling him of her condition and he believed her dead as well until he meets her outside his family home, a family who sent him away when he was 12 years old for pushing his twin brother and heir out of a tree. Nick has resented his family ever since so seeing Adelaide again shocks him to his core. Nick is on the verge of having a title bestowed upon him if he can stay scandal-free for a fortnight. That could be in jeopardy if his previous affair with Adelaide is revealed. Complicating everything is that his brother, Nate, is engaged to Adelaide's sister Alice.

This was an thoroughly engaging story of twins in love with twins, difficult family dynamics and the hurt and resentment of a child wrongly accused of trying to kill his brother. Ms. Bright does a fantastic job of getting inside each character's head and revealing their most painful secrets. Nick, a war hero and accomplished spy in service to the crown cannot let go of the hurt and resentment he feels for his father for the way he was treated. Adelaide believes she is wicked especially when her feelings of lust/love for Nick pops up at the most inconvenient time. Would Adelaide ever rein in her feelings for Nick and marry a good and decent man or would she fall victim again to Nick's charms? Never knowing what happened to Adelaide has sent Nick's ordered life into a tailspin. Would he jeopardize a chance at a title to reclaim the woman he's never been able to forget? I couldn't read fast enough to find out what happens to these two. Fans of Regency romance will definitely enjoy this one.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for a fair and honest review.

Although this is considered book #2, in the series, you don’t have to read the first.
It does feature characters from the first book “Twice as Wicked” but it doesn’t really detract from the book.

Nicholas is a spy and soldier for the crown. But he’s a rogue and the black sheep of the family. And he’s finally come good, if he can stay out of trouble he will be given the title of “Marquess” and he will be able to hold his head up high in society again, but there is trouble coming round the corner......

Adelaide had the misfortune to fall in love with Nick and have his baby. She was then sent was to a convent in France by her parents to have her baby in secret (the shame of a child out of wedlock)
But she disappeared and was thought to be dead for the last two years.

Adelaide has a twin sister called Alice. (Yes the same Alice from book 1)
In Alice’s book, Alice came to avenge Adelaide’s death and downfall at Nicholas’s hand, and tried to kill him. Needless to say, all she did was fall for his “twin” brother. (Well ..... maybe she tried to shoot him a few times 😉)

The two sisters are reunited and it becomes clear that Adelaide wants her past to disappear and to marry into a good family. But there are twists and turns that keep Adelaide and Nicholas bumping into each other.
Nicholas wants Adelaide to marry into a good family and will try to “help” her regain her good name. But with the heat simmering away between them, it’s only a matter of time before something explodes.

It’s a well written story, and again the characters come to life, and the secondary characters make you hope that they get stories too.

A few laugh out loud moments, and a few moments where you almost reach for the tissues.

I loved it! It's such an interesting story about two people who love each other, but have no idea how to show it. So, they just end up hurting each other, and themselves, in the process. However, there may be a way for them to be happy even if they can't be together.....

Adelaide was betrayed once and now she cannot trust Nick. Although, she is in need of his assistance so she will accept that much from him. It's not that she has forgotten about what happened between them, it's just that there is no other option for her. Her family believes her to be dead, and now she is back and she plans to avoid scandal at any cost. Neither Nick nor herself can afford a scandal or else they'll be ruined beyond redemption or so she thinks....

Nick never expected to find Adelaide the way he did. He still remembers the sweet and kind girl she was. Now that she is here, in front of him, he can't imagine any other solution for their predicament than to marry her. It won't be an ideal marriage of course, but what else can be? He can't let anyone know about what happened between them and he can't let her cause scandal, because he is so close to achieve his goals. But what about happiness? Does it even matter? Maybe they will both find a way to redeem themselves or maybe they are just doomed to live unhappily as a penance for their wickedness....

Two set of twins, falling in love. Second chance in love. Secret baby. Revenge. I could name various tropes to fit this narrative.

Nicholas and Nathaniel Eastwood have parents whose paranoia of fratricide made them banish Nick from their home when he was 12. Their family history is steeped with the infernal crime and wouldn't want history repeating itself, thus the banishment of the spare to save the heir.

Nick has rendered his services to the Crown and has been offered the title of marquess as his reward provided no scandal is attached to his name until the papers are officially signed.

Adelaide Burnell twin to Alice, who's fiancée to Nate, was also banished to the nunnery to avoid the scandal. She's unmarried and carrying Nick's child, unbeknownst to Nick. Everyone thought Adelaide dead, they were informed that she and the baby expired at childbirth.

When Adelaide re-emerged, alive, and then shot Nick and demanded money without divulging her secret about their baby at first, everything unfolds slowly and scandalously. Nick's claim to the marquessate hangs in balance. Family reconciliation was slow but got there in the end. Adelaide and Nick still have this sexual tension between them. Adelaide and Alice might have patched up. but Nick finds it hard to bury the hatchet against his family.

This family saga is brimming with heartrending drama. Every single character is affected by it. It's a good read for readers who appreciate this trope.

I voluntarily read an NetGalley arc from the publisher. This is my impartial review.

Major thanks to NetGalley and the publisher, Entangled Publishing, for sending me the eARC to this book in exchange for an honest review!

If you’re a fan of Bridgerton/The Duke and I, then this is the book for you! This book is packed with thrilling secrets and scandals and romance. This book was such a fun read and I really enjoyed it. It was the standard historical romance in London, but that’s never a bad thing! This book did put its own spin on the scandals that took place.

I did find Adelaide to get kind of annoying sometimes, but she was manageable by the ending. Note: this is the second book in the series, but you can read it as a stand alone like I did. Apparently, there are character cross overs, so it would be super interesting to read the other books and get more insight into them!

This book was pretty good and was enjoyable! If you’re a fan of steamy historical romance, then definitely read this one! Elizabeth Bright seems to be a great author and I’ll be looking to read more of her books in the future!

Lady Gone Wicked is my first book by Elizabeth Bright, but won't be my last. Ms. Bright has given us a book that is well-written. Her characters are phenomenal. Nick was thrown away by his family at the age of 12. He has earned his way in the world and is now awaiting a title. Adelaide is an unwed mother, sent to a convent when her parents discovered she was pregnant. Adelaide and Nick's story is loaded with drama, secrets and sizzle. I enjoyed reading Lady Gone Wicked and look forward to reading more books from Elizabeth Bright in the future. Lady Gone Wicked is part of the Wicked Secrets Series but can be read as a standalone. This is a complete book, not a cliff-hanger.

I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book that I received from NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I *hate* the secret baby trope. Hate. It. And I'm still giving this 5 stars.

I don't even know where to start with this. The scenes between Adelaide and her father broke my heart. I loved the complicated, deep bond between Adelaide and her sister Alice. The epilogue wrecked me in the best possible way. I keep re-reading it, and then going back to the scene where Nick talks to his dad, and then I cry happy tears.

And then there's Adelaide. Somehow the author pulled off a sex-positive book with a non-sex-positive heroine, and it is BRILLIANT. You know how some romances are really great with love scenes, and some are just kinda blah blah blah, same old stuff? Not this. Every love scene has a reason, and if you skip them, you miss a whole lot of relationship and character development.

Lady Gone Wicked by Elizabeth Bright is book two in the "Wicked Secrets" Series. This is the story of Nicholas Eastwood and Adelaide Bursnell. I have read the previous book but this is easily a standalone book.
Nicholas is ready to get his reward for helping the Crown he just needs to maintain a scandal free existence until the deal is set. But then Adelaide comes forward who was thought to have past but now is here. They were once very close but now Nicholas has offered to help her find a husband so that she can out run her scandal and to help himself stay scandal free. But sometimes you can't run from you feelings even when you want something else so bad.
Good Second Chance at Love story.

Graphic sex
At worst, a pregnant daughter of the ton would have been thrown out on the street in the clothes she stood up in. At best, she would have been shipped off somewhere to have her baby in secret, and then housed in some very out of the way place for the rest of her life so her family wouldn't have to bear the shame of her existence. She would not have been welcomed back into her family's arms with joy. The belief that a person could fast for one day and fit into a dress obviously too small for her is just ridiculous! (If only it were true! Sign me up for that diet!) Finally, apparently no one ever told the intelligent, highly successful spy that a woman can't get pregnant and deliver a healthy baby in the space of a month. Apparently, the male MC can't do basic math.

so on one hand i devoured this just as quickly, if not more so, than the first in the series. elizabeth bright sure can write a book, and this was filled with all sorts of interesting and complicated family dynamics that for me only made it all better. on the other hand, this had that same moral streak i so struggled with in the first, stronger, but also with more context and resolution. so, there was that. definitely going to continue on with this series, i'm just going to have to decide if i go for the audiobooks available on hoopla, or if i'm seeking out hard copies. either way, i'm intrigued!
