Dr. Abigail Eaton stumbles into a massacre, but once someone tries to kill her it seems like no accident. While hunting for the perpetrators of a sex trafficking empire, Agent Finley Abbott saves Abigail from a professional hit and discovers the young mother might be the key to more than just her case. Finley takes Abigail and her family to what she thinks is safer ground, and runs right into the arms of reputed mob boss Cain Casey. Hell Fire was previously published in Girls With Three Novellas (Bold Strokes Books, 2016).
Ali Vali is the author of the long-running Cain Casey "Devil" series and the Genesis Clan "Forces" series, as well as numerous standalone romances including two Lambda Literary Award finalists, Calling the Dead and Love Match, and her 2017 release, Beauty and the Boss. Ali also has a novella in the collection Girls with Guns. Originally from Cuba, Ali has retained much of her family's traditions and language and uses them frequently in her stories. Having her father read her stories and poetry before bed every night as a child infused her with a love of reading, which she carries till today. Ali currently lives outside New Orleans, Louisiana, and she has discovered that living in Louisiana provides plenty of material to draw from in creating her novels and short stories.
3 stars Is the MC's name Finley or Riley? Because the author of the synopsis should've probably read the story... Otherwise not bad, but a bit too morally gray at the end for my tastes.
What's not to love about the Casey family? This story tells a tale of a branch of this family tree and unsurprisingly, the trait of commitment, ingenuity, family and support stands out once again. Find the kids adorable especially Liam.
In this novella-length story, FBI agent Finley is undercover with the NYPD trying to crack open a human trafficking ring. At the same time, Abigail, in NYC with her 3 young children, is on her way to meet the parents of her dead ex-wife when she encounters 3 men with machine guns and runs away from them. Caught on a security camera, Finley tracks down Abigail and her kids at a toy store just as a man shoots her. After Finley kills him and takes a wounded Abigail to the hospital, the two women and the 3 kids go on the run to keep the family safe. Someone is obviously trying to kill Abigail. But who?
This is Finley and Abigail's backstory leading up to their inclusion in the 6th Cain Casey book. It's action-packed with many twists and features Cain toward the end. I read it in one evening.
Abigail Eaton takes her children out for ice cream and they witness a vicious shootout. The incident seems random until Abigail finds her self facing down an armed gunman intent on taking her life as well. Help comes in the unlikely person of undercover FBI agent Finley Abbott who leaves her computers behind to be protector and friend to Abigail and her children. As they work together to unravel the mystery of why someone would want Abigail harmed, Finley discovers not only the traffickers she has been hunting, but that protecting this family is more than just her job, it becomes her reason for being. Fans of the Cain Casey series will enjoy this side quest story. Set in New York and New Orleans, this tale is a brilliant thread in the tapestry of interesting characters Ali Vali has brought to life.
It didn’t take long to know that Finley and Abigail would make a great couple. I love how easily the kids took to Finley and how it immediately turned into a comfortable domestic scene with all of them at Finley’s home... and I loved seeing Cain and Remi involved in this short. Yet another lovely Casey cousin :D

I really enjoyed it, hopefully Finley appears in other books of Ali's I have yet to read. It's a small side piece to the Cain Casey series which is why I wanted to read before moving onto the next CC book. All of Ali's characters have been intriguing and enjoyable so far.
He’ll Fire is a great continuation of the Cain Casey series. It will clear up a lot of questions about how Abigail and her children ended up friends with the Casey clan.
