Natalie Decker has an addictive writing style. It makes her books easy to read and her characters come to life.
Austin is having a hard time. His parents have split up and his mum is struggling to make ends meet. He should be out having fun with his friends, but even one night off made things even more difficult. He doesn’t want people to feel sorry for him. He would rather them think he was a flake with a gambling problem.

Adaline is having her own problems. Adaline’s best friend is in love with her and she wished he had never told her. She doesn’t feel the same way. Even worse all her other friends are coupled up. She doesn’t want to be the 5th wheel. She doesn’t want to date her best friend and she wants Austin to stop being a pain in her butt. He’s always late. He doesn’t have enough time and he keeps giving mixed signals.

These are both difficult topics, but the authors kept this book light-hearted. It does contain bad language. It can be read as a standalone, however, these books can be read on Kindle Unlimited.

Much like Natalie Decker’s second book in her Offsides series Right Kiss Wrong Guy (reviewed here), her third book, Right Girl Wrong Timing, is a push and pull young adult romance between childhood neighbors and friends Adaline Frost and Austin Reed who lost that friendship in middle school. Adaline although attracted to Austin views him more as the enemy.

For much of the first half the novel seems to plod along, with Austin being the far more interesting character (much like Jared in Right Kiss Wrong Guy) with his family situation, single parent household in which his mother just lost her good job and Austin having to work a couple of part-time jobs. He is being pulled between wanting to be a typical high school student and doing the right thing by his Mom and, of course, spending as much time as he can trying to get Adaline interested in him again.

When I saw the description for this book, I thought it sounded right up my alley. I love a good contemporary romance, and enemies to lovers is a trope I enjoy. I hate to admit it, but this one just really missed the mark for me. It seemed like I could read this one without having read books one and two, but the book starts out explaining why Adaline and Austin are fighting, and it just felt like I missed some things. I think you can still read this one without reading the others, but I do think it makes it feel a little disjointed.

I know that this is book geared towards teens and high school can be dramatic and everything is the end of the world, but I felt like the plot of the book played this up a little too much. I know I haven't been a teen in a long time, but the miscommunication and the immaturity of the characters didn't feel that realistic to me. Also, I am generally curious, do teens still use a lot of abbreviations in text messages? I had a flip phone and didn't have texting in high school, and I know a lot of us used it back in the day (I swear I'm not that old) because we all had T9. It's something I wonder about whenever I see it in books now.

I did like that the book also deals with Adaline's struggle to figure out college and what she wants to do. I think it's an issue a lot of kids have and it's a hard thing to tell a kid okay figure out what you want to do with the rest of your life at 16 so you can go to the right college. I also liked that it explores poverty and what kids have to do to help their families when it came to Austin's situation.

I just really couldn't connect with either Adaline or Austin in the end, and I found them both annoying. I also just didn't really buy the romance between the two of them. It was just fighting, fighting, fighting, let's kiss, fighting, fighting, let's kiss again, fighting, let's go out and the end.

I think this book just wasn't for me, but I don't want to discount it for others that might enjoy it. If you like drama-filled books with an enemy to lovers story, this might be for you, but the actions of the characters just never clicked right with me.

Natalie Decker is one of my favorite authors. Upon learning there would be another book in the Offsides series, I jumped on the bandwagon right away. What I loved most about this book is that Addy and Austin were best friends. Friends-to-lovers is a trope I will always love, no matter the book. I was thoroughly invested in the plot. It made me feel all sorts of emotions. It was a wild ride.
This is the first time I've ever felt a little "let down" by one of Natalie's books. I just feel like there's something missing. Just that little extra "umph" to feeling fully satisfied with Addy and Austin's story. But I am trying to look at this from a positive perspective. Or maybe it's just my secret hope that this story isn't actually "over". Maybe Ms. Decker has something more planned. I don't know. But this aside, I'm super stoked I got to read this book and I am happily waiting for more from this author.

I enjoyed it but...
It took so long to sort out their issues and once they did, it ended. No epilogue no one more chapter to see things were ok. you invest your time and emotions in these characters and I'm always left feeling a little disappointed or sad , when I'm left so suddenly. Like did they actually get an A on the bloody school project or not!
I'm hoping there is another in the series just to know that everyone is doing well.

I actually really liked Austin, that being said I didn't like much else in this book. Several items in here was so far fetched it was painful.

Evictions take time. This is not a matter of my kid didn't work ONE day and stole $100 to rent a suit/tux so we are being evicted. It was also later implied that being $86 behind on the electric bill that was about to be shut off was also his fault for the same incident of missing one day of work. One full day of work at minimum wage for a teen wouldn't cover that bill, let alone that and a mortgage. It also disturbs me to my core that his mother BLAMES him the eviction and is still in communication with his father without getting a dime from him. The father is dangled two or three times throughout this novel, mostly glossed over then a bomb is dropped that he's getting remarried and that is literally the last we hear of him. We don't even get a real reaction from Austin about the situation.

Adaline is just obnoxious, she states several times throughout the book that she is having the worst day of her life, or the worst morning ever, etc. all over minor issues like detention or a group project. While I understand the stress of high school and trying to live up to parents' standards when she is faced with Austin's very serious real-life problems she acts as if her upsets are on the same level and constantly gives him flack for leaving even when she DEMANDS he leave.

We spend this entire book with a pinball going back and forth between the two, no matter how many times Austin tries to tell and/or show Adaline that he likes her she doesn't listen. They get together in the last like three pages of the book, all because he asks her out via a large public sign that Rachel saw. NOT because he spent an entire day off work working on the project she desperately needed help with, not because he remembered her birthday and got her a gift, not because he defended her honor or gave her countless rides home or told her he LOVED her. No, she didn't consent till Rachel had seen him ask Adaline out. Exhausting...

I enjoyed the first book in this series so this was a bit of a disappointment.

It’s been a while since I read the second book in the Offsides Series, so it took a while to remember some details about the other characters. But it’s no big deal. It didn’t really affect my reading experience cause these books can be read as a standalone. I actually haven’t even read the first book and I never really felt like I was missing important details or anything.

Like Right Kiss Wrong Guy, Right Girl Wrong Timing by Natalie Decker was a fun and entertaining story. The writing style was easy to read and engaging. The plot was fast-paced and amusing and gave me one crazy emotional whiplash. I liked the chemistry between Austin and Adaline, but sometimes I just wanted to shake them. The hot and cold and all the back and forth made me feel quite exasperated. I liked the push and pull and it was fun, but there were times that I just didn’t quite understand the emotional outbursts. Austin and Adaline just kept making assumptions about each other and getting into arguments. It was annoying and so ridiculously chaotic that I found it amusing. The ending felt a bit rushed, but I thought what Austin did for Adaline was super adorable and romantic. There were defintely some swoons and I was quite satisfied with how everything turned out.

The characters were interesting. Even if I was frustrated with them, I thought they were quite realistic and acted their age. Austin and Adaline seemed whiney at times, but they just reacted and behaved like most angsty teenagers would. I can’t really fault them for that. Jared and Tyler were great friends to Austin and I liked that they were always there for him. Really great cast that you may not always like, but they’re pretty entertaining and charming in their own ways.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. There was bickering, drama, misunderstanding, ridiculous teenage angst, amazing friendships, delicious kisses, and swoony moments that managed to hold my interest until the very end. It wasn’t spectacular or anything, but it was an entertaining and fun story that made me laugh and drove me crazy… in a good way.

It was fine

First book in the series was still the best for drawing me in and I couldn’t put it down. The past two have been fine. It helped to know some of the back stories from other books to help interest me more but not necessarily to read in order. Across all the books though I should mention there is some sexual language and swearing that wasn’t really necessary and doesn’t add to the story. I’m not sure why it was included in teen book.

this is pretty similar to the other books in the series. its ’sweet’ and simple. there was a lot of back and forth in this book, a lot of “i love you, i hate you” drama. except you couldn’t really call it drama because not much happened. other than those parts, the book was fine. a typical contemporary romance, just lacking a bit of depth.

Another cute read. It is funny reading these as an adult thinking “if only I had to cope with that” I would tag out of adulting in a heartbeat, but when I look back to my high school days those issues were big for that time in my life. We loved forever (in lost cases) as adults, but we love BIG as teenagers❤️❤️❤️

Embarrassed for Addy

Great character development, so much so that I could not stand the main character, Addy. What a spoiled rotten, self centered little witch. I wanted to shake her several times throughout the book and tell Austin she has not worth it. If you can get past that, it was a quick easy read.
