Fear, jealousy, and the ultimate betrayal threaten to destroy the tentative connection between human and Leroni.
The Leroni have returned to the land of their ancestors but, for some, it is not the paradise they’d imagined it would be. Tllomell finds herself torn between her old life and her new reality. Fear pulls her in one direction and hope tugs her in another. Which path will she choose?
Jahira struggles to find purpose now that she can no longer fly. Krnar attempts to adjust to his new role as a hero. Both face the disapproval of peers over their continued relationship. Can their bond survive the return of Krnar’s people?

I enjoyed this one, as we get to know more about the planet and the animals that reside there. But even though there's plenty of food space and sun to go around, the humans and Leroni begin to murmur in discontent. Xenophobia begins to spread as some of the Leroni question the motives of the humans. Jahira and Krnar try their best to help both groups become acclimated before winter. And there's still Lusila and her band of defected humans to deal with. Our heroes are just trying to keep the peace amidst this new planet, while they discover their connection to each other. I can't wait to see what's in store for everyone next.
I read this book in one day! Just couldn’t put it down. It evokes Every emotion joy, anger and everything between. I wanted to punch a few characters they annoyed me so much lol but that means it’s a great story. I am invested and can not wait to read the next installment.
Nicole L. Bates writes so beautifully and has created a world which although strange is so rich in detail you become immersed in the story. It is such a great read and I can’t wait to read her next installment.
First Impression: I can't wait to continue this series! Also, another gorgeous cover.
Characters: The Leroni are a humanoid alien species to the humans who've landed on a strange planet somewhat like their own while vastly and dangerously new. I found the relationships authentic and the conflict believable. Of course my favorite is the love between Jahira and Krnar.
World Building: Again Bates brings exploration of Empyrean with peril and delight. Creatures, flora and fauna, and a host of other new discoveries await. I'm always impressed with this author's careful thought behind the technology and medicinal practices, as well as the character daily lifestyles and adventures.
Writing Style: Approachable and easy to follow, while building a complex enough sci-fi escape. Creating a series enjoyable for adults yet innocent enough for YA is no easy task, but Bates surprises me yet again with this accomplishment.
What I Enjoyed: What did I not enjoy might be the better question here? I want this series to go on forever. My favorite parts of fantasy and sci-fi combine to create a fast-paced adventure with enough tender and reflective moments to be immersive.
Overall Rating: 5 stars - Feel good at times, gripping at others. Everything I want in a story.
For Fans Of: Rhapsody series by Elizabeth Hayden, Jurassic Park
I use four general criteria for rating books. Did I have an emotional reaction to the story appropriate to the story? Did the plot keep me engaged and eager for what came next ? Did I care about the characters? How well was the book written?
Empyrean's Fall passed all four tests. Nicole also built an interesting world and the clash of cultures felt very real.
I am excited for the third book and where the story goes from there.
Even better than Book 1 and can't wait for Book 3! The bringing together of humans and Leroni and the relationships and challenges that form make for an engrossing read. Where Book 1 introduced each group, Emyprean's Fall really gets to the hopes, fears, and desires of the two groups in a new world. Loved it!
A fabulous second installment for the series! The author does a superb job of building tension and conflict on several levels. The writing drew me in right from the beginning and I was able to clearly picture the world and characters. I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
This book picks right up from where Empyrean left off. The characters that we met in book one really develop in Empyrean’s Fall. This is a dynamic development due to the living conditions and interactions among the characters.
I enjoy Nicole’s writing style so very much! I am enthralled in her storytelling and the beautiful world and characters she has created. This was another page-turner that I enjoyed so very much from start to finish.
I felt so many emotions during this one, from highs to lows and everything in between. I really found myself connected to the character's experiences.
I am saving the third and final book in the series, Empyrean’s Future for next month solely because I don’t want this story to end!
If you haven’t added this series to your TBR you really need to, it’s become one of my favorites.
