When the aquatic life on Atlantis’s adopted homeworld begins to threaten the city, Colonel Sheppard’s team discovers that the creatures are both intelligent and able to communicate. Another victim of the Ancient scientist, Janus, the squid-like creatures reveal how they were abducted from their own world millennia ago—and demand Atlantis's help to return home. Eager to assist, Sheppard and his team travel to the creature’s homeworld only to find its indigenous population hostile to the return of their kinsmen. And, to make matters worse, they discover a Genii salvage operation in the ocean that’s not only threatening the creature’s habitat but their very survival. Facing hostility above and below the water, Weir and Sheppard must negotiate a homecoming for their new friends and peace with the Genii before frayed tempers result in a bloody conflict that could destroy them all… Join the team for another novella length adventure set after the conclusion of the STARGATE ATLANTIS Legacy series.

This was such a fun read. This novella feels so much like a classic episode of the show, and I loved it for that, and so much else too. It's just a really fun adventure and felt exactly like an episode would. This is set after the 8th book in the Legacy series, but it doesn't deal with a whole lot of the details from Legacy, and I thought that was a really good thing. Don't get me wrong, I love Legacy, but sometimes the stuff that's set in or after that time frame can be surprisingly involved and a little complicated, especially if you haven't read the books in a while, and so I loved that this could be read mostly as a standalone when you know that Elizabeth is back and only a few other minor details from Legacy. This deals a little with what Elizabeth can and what she wants to do with herself now that's she's back, and I loved that we got to learn a little more about how she's doing, I always want to see more of her in these books. And it was really fun to see the role reversal that happens between her and John. The plot involves this new aquatic species on the planet where Atlantis is currently stationed and I loved the Squid people, they were a lot of fun, and I hope we could maybe see more of them in the future. Overall this is just a wonderful lighter quick read and I completely recommend it.
There were many plot lines that didn't go anywhere in the Legacy novels, despite being stretched out to an incredible length. One of the most frustrating of those plot lines is a lack of a commander in Atlantis, for, how long now? One of the most baffling ones is the giant squid plot line. They were mentioned for two or three novels, and there wasn't. Just. Anything. Happening. With them.
The latter plot line has finally been resolved in this book. The former one still hasn't.
It wasn't worth it.
I wouldn't say it was a bad read, it was pretty entertaining in places. But it was just... baffling. Certainly the most surreal of all the stargate novels I've read so far, and I've read most of them at this point. I probably would have rated it higher if it didn't have to deal with the leftovers from the Legacy novels, and was instead a self-contained entity. As is, though, with all the baggage, I can't help but to find it more lacking than it should have been.
Also, why is Rodney on the cover, front and center? He is barely in this book.
A great continuation to the series, picking up after the end of the Legacy series. I'm glad to see Dr. Weir back in action, and especially that it's not just "business as usual" for her, given everything that happened. The continuity was great! My only complaints are that a) this is too short for the first Atlantis novel in over a year, and b) it was like reading a Flipper episode. I love marine biology and sci-fi, but the cheese level was a bit too high.
Another entertaining post-Legacy SGA novella in which the inhabitants of Atlantis discover that they're not the only intelligent species on their current planet, a mission to repatriate their aquatic neighbours to their original homeworld ensues, and the Genii, as usual, throw a spanner in the works. Fun, but pales beside the previous installment. Now, if only there were more of these...
Atlantis deal with a new species and and old foe, well, mostly for sometimes friend in the Genii. The only thing I didn't like about this book is the length. Over way too fast.
A quick little story that could have been so much more but given that Weir was a main character I’m kind of glad it wasn’t. I find her utterly boring. The Genii are getting a bit old and done and there wasn’t nearly enough Ronon or McKay in this.
Enjoyed reading this story. This was a short read but follow the Atlantis mission properly. Keep it coming. Homeworld book story line might be a better way to go for a series read but this was a good stand alone.
I really love it and recommend to everyone who loved sy-fy or stargate overall and I would would recommend to everyone who liked action and thrill series
Follows the Legacy Series. Fun read but it might be hard to follow if you haven't read the 8 book Legacy series which takes places after Atlantis Season 5.
Loved Stripes the squid. Absolutely loved bargain technics by Weir. Actually the story was rich on WEIRiness, and I think it’s marvelous. She is great character, but really undeveloped. The dynamics between Weir and Sheppard doesn’t seem strong enough for me. He left her hanging in space, dead, for God’s sake! And now he’s like ‘are you back? Oh, ok. Dinner’s on the table. I’ll be a Teyla’s” Overall the story reminds a good fanfiction. Although 5 bucks seems like too much a price for this
Egyébként elvileg a lidércek is neki köszönhetik a létüket! hm…

Intersting the presence of Elizabeth Weir, that during the last seasons of the show is depicted as dead (in the Legacy books, she is first Ascendend and, then, returned to life).
[edit] Novella well written, I really appreciated it!
