Charge and the Energy Body: The Vital Key to Healing Your Life, Your Chakras, and Your Relationships

Rate this book
Use the power of life force to live your highest potential with this “landmark book” that addresses “the role of the chakras in personality and our intimate relationships” and “opens the door to the inner experience of the authentic self” (Peter Levine, author of Waking the Tiger)We all know what it’s like to have a “charge” about something. It’s a feeling of excitement, fear, sexual arousal, or irritation. But what we don’t currently know is how to use charge for the behaviors we want to create.Charge is a word for the basic life force running through us. This force is crucial if we are to meet the challenges of difficult situations, heal past wounds and traumas, and manage the stress of modern life. Even more, it is essential for understanding how to master your own life force and become all you can be.This book makes an important contribution to the growing field of Energy Medicine, by looking at charge as the interface between mind and body, and the missing ingredient in Mind-Body healing. It brings the reader into a deep intimacy with their own life force, as well as an understanding of how charge runs their relationships, their children, their clients, and patients. It examines how we can become “overcharged” or “undercharged” and how to bring about balance through practices of charging and discharging. Each chapter gives simple exercises to put these principles into practice.World-renowned teacher, somatic therapist, best-selling author, and advanced yoga teacher, Anodea Judith, Ph.D., addresses all this and more in her groundbreaking book on mastering the life force. Taken from her decades of teaching on the subject and her doctoral work in Mind-Body medicine, this book contributes something entirely new to the literature on healing self and others.

While this book includes somatic concepts developed by Peter Levine and Pat Ogden, while not clearly citing them as the source of this information, and talks about what trauma is, it doesn't provide trauma informed practices. "Charge" is Prana/Qi/Akasha which the person already has flowing through them. These practices are meant to increase the volume intentionally for health and healing purposes. However it doesn't mention or caution people about how this could trigger trauma response, heighten unhealed trauma, or retraumatize people by replaying or reactivating trauma stored in the body. "Charge" isn't universally healing any more than electricity is. It's active life force and so without direction or care will simply activate or enhance whatever you already are and are dealing with. This can have positive or negative effects and often both.

This book was published in 2018 (5 years ago).
The book contains 5 parts, 26 chapters and is 295 pages long. The author has a PhD degree and the sentences are very well written and easy to read.
This is my second book of the same author. The author is known by her work on chakra, and I hoped that the work on chakra would be her main topic reflected in the new age of self-help word.
In fact, the part of the book which speaks about chakras is only part number three. The author developed some kind of preaching about charging, which I disagree a lot, and developed 5 types of personality structures, and I disagree on that as well.
In fact, rather buy some advanced self-help books, and some recent book going into the dept about chakra reflecting today’s era.

Great read, thank you! This book appeared out of nowhere just at the right time! Very practical, would recommend to anyone who would like to understand and work with their own charge and emotions.

I enjoyed this book. AJ extends and fleshes out aspects of her work here that deal with the idea of “charge” - mostly emotional but also subtle energetics. The book is well written and easy to read, and has practical exercises and activities to enhance the intellectual aspect. Recommended.

Life changing

It really took talk therapy to a new level that allows us to not only open our thoughts but our physical and energy bodies. It allowed me to recognize my own holding pattern and provided charging and discharging exercises to help manage my mood swings. I couldn't recommend this book more highly and have already bought a copy for everyone I know.

One of my teachers said Judith was life changing for him. I have to say, I'm a fan. I learned a lot from this book. Judith, an expert in both psychology and yoga; specifically chakras, mixed both in this book. And it was eye-opening. So much so, I've already ordered another book by her.
