Overall some good ideas in this book to work towards improving a public school. However, some of the ideas focus more on compliance rather than true engagement.
Review: Leverage Leadership 2.0: A Practical Guide to Building Exceptional Schools by Paul Bambrick-Santoyo
This book was really interesting and packed with valuable information about what it takes to build and sustain exceptional schools. It’s practical, clear, and focused on what effective instructional leadership looks like in action—from data-driven instruction to strong coaching systems and consistent feedback cycles.
I read this as part of my Principal Certification program, where it was required reading and highly recommended as preparation for the state exam. I can absolutely see why—it’s one of those books that goes beyond theory and provides real, applicable strategies that future administrators can use right away.
I’m hopeful that what I’ve learned from Leverage Leadership 2.0 will help me continue to grow as a future administrator and leader who makes a meaningful impact on both teachers and students.
I read this book for graduate school and rated it according to other educational texts.
This was my last read for graduate school! Woohoo!
I am so glad that this was the final book I read for my Masters. It was easy and enjoyable to read, with practical recommendations that many educational leaders could put into place. The steps are laid out in a logical order and repeated just enough to reinforce the ideas without becoming boring. This would be a great book study for a leadership team that is also committed to putting the ideas into practice!
I had to read this book for my masters class. Though it was required, I have found this book extremely helpful as I have stepped into the world of being in school administration. I reference it often and love the tips, tricks and focus points that it gives to school leaders. I would recommend it to anyone going into school administration.
Yes I'm actually reading this. For graduate school. It would be helpful if there were more real-life scenarios or hands-on "how to" tips and tricks. When I'm reading a leadership book, I want to walk away with practical steps to implement. This book had plenty of ideas, but not as many concrete plans for action.
Generally a good leadership book with solid ideas. I'm not a fan of some of the changes from LL1.0 to this one though, and I think the authors overexaggerate the importance of teachers talking about data in school improvement.
I'm thankful for the the detailed descriptions and steps for school leadership. I also like the way levers are prioritized. I plan to use many of the resources provided this school year.
Bambrick knows what he is talking about! He outlines a systematic approach to school improvement with 7 key levers that can be wielded to yield school success.
