“Why would a living person worry about what happens after they die? I’ll just live freely for as long as possible.”
Ok, so I recently watched the drama adaption of this novel and it was LIFE-CHANGING so now it's time to read the source material!
The timeline of this story is split between two time periods around 13 years apart, and while the tv drama did a huge flashback that literally lasted for 60%+ of the show, so far the book is showing way more of the present timeline's story which is super awesome because honestly, the present timeline part of the story was what I found most compelling in the tv drama anyway!
The section about studying in the Cloud Recesses was noticeably different compared to the drama, focusing on only the main cast and not even introducing a lot of the secondary characters who made an early appearance during this story arc in the show, which I was surprised by. This actually worked better though in my opinion, I can't really handle stories that dump a huge number of characters in right at the beginning, and I did have a difficult time following what was going on when I watched the show for the first time.
It's a bit difficult to comment on the quality of the writing in this book since I am reading a fan translated version (no official translation exists yet, sadly) but I found a lot of the narration and dialogue to be absolutely hilarious, and even though I've already watched the tv drama almost 2 times through and am already quite familiar with the storyline, I was never even slightly bored and still find the mysteries to be very compelling, especially since the novel allows for the magic system and character relationships to be explained much more thoroughly than a drama adaption. Not to mention, the novel contains way more of the cute romantic scenes between the main couple that were sadly cut out of the drama! (China has dumb censorship laws. Boooooooo)
Character wise, I was surprised at how although Wei WuXian is very similar in characterisation, Lan WangJi is so much more aggressive 😱 (I guess it was unavoidable though, again because of the censorship :<) It's a bit weird to see that this was how he was originally written when I am used to seeing the adorable version of him in the drama, but he is still very wholesome nonetheless and I am just living for their interactions <3

Szégyellje magát a Művelt Nép - a magyar fordítás egyszerűen gyalázatos.
Persze, az eredeti mű sem tökéletes (not me giving it five stars anyway like the clown i am), de az esetlenül lefordított mondatokon kívül ráadásul tele van helyesírási hibákkal és elgépelésekkel. Wang Lanji és Jin Fengmian volt a két kedvenc ilyen hibám, meg aztán volt még Ji Zixuan, Lan Zhang, meg amikor egy mondat kétszer egymás után szerepel. Az ikes igéket meg a vesszőket is elég eklektikusan használják a könyvben, de jó, az utóbbiba ne kössünk bele, mert a magyar nyelv vesszőhasználatra vonatkozó szabályait leginkább úgy lehetne összefoglalni, hogy "ööööh, tegyél egyet ide, aztán majd lesz valami, idk".
Az látszik, hogy a fordító nagyon jól ismeri a kínai kultúrát, és biztos vagyok benne, hogy nagyon jól beszéli a kínai nyelvet, csak sajnos a magyart nem annyira...
Mivel az eredeti könyv egy kicsit azért ennél jobb, nem akarok neki két csillagot adni, de háromnál többet semmiképpen sem érdemel.

I kind of like it. I not love it as much as the series, The Untamed, but I enjoyed it some parts of the story, especially the last part, when creepy and kind of scary things happens, and the lovely juniors appeared. Wei Wuxian past self is annoying and frivolous, I truly understand why Lan Wangji hated him at first. The series is better in this too. In the series the characters are more understandable and more nuanced than the book. The writing style is not my favorite type of writing, and the informations coming really fast, which is not so useful.

parce que si j'enlève ça, j'ai passé un moment de lecture incroyable. je me suis vraiment amusée et l'univers m'a beaucoup plu. pour tout vous dire, j'ai envie d'acheter la suite directement et de ne plus lâcher la saga jusqu'à la terminer. mais ma pal est longue et je vais me montrer raisonnable

Szórakoztató mese érdekes karakterekkel, kellemes világteremtéssel, mágiával és kardokkal. Laza fantasy, ami meg tudott nevettetni, és ki tudott egy szép szeletet szakítani az alvásra szánt időmből, viszont azt sem érdemes tagadnom, hogy az értékelésben erősen közrejátszik a filmsorozat elbájoló hangulata is.

Nije za one koji bi odmah na najslađe. Romantičnije delove priče će dočekati samo oni čitaoci koji poseduju strpljanje za slow burn romanse i kojima se dopada autorkin stil naracije.
Početak nije lak, zbog dosta strana i prošlih događaja koji se pominju i pre nego što se objasne. Plus, tu su sva ona alternativna imena i nazivi klanova, gradova, planina, mačeva itd.
Nadam se da nikog nisam ovim prestravila - samo papir i olovku u ruke, i nema da brineš!
Brzina čitanja raste sa vremenom i u suštini priča nije preterano kompleksna. Izmešana hronologija ima ulogu da ukaže koliko se sadašnjost i prošlost razlikuju, ali i gde se istorija ponavlja.
Priče iz prošlosti su za mene bili najemotivniji delovi knjige i najduže su se zadržavali u sećanju. Kod tih prelaza iz prošlosti natrag u sadašnjost, treba malo pauzirati sa čitanjem. Duga je priča, kraći odmor je potreban i koristan, kako za telo, tako i za um.
Na kraju, teško je reći kog je žanra ova knjiga. Ima tu i ljubavi, i kritike društva, i detektivske novele, i političkih intriga. Na kraju će je završiti samo oni kojima se stil priče dopada. Ja sam konačno uspela, posle 4 meseca (are we there yet?!), i mogu da prenesem da su nastavci još uzbudljiviji.

Volume 1 covers from ch. 1 to ch. 37. Since this novel (series) felt so long the last time I read it, I'm going to count it as the four books it was published in after its initial serialization. But also I skipped a lot of the first Gusu flashback.
So, yeah, this was my second time reading it. There are things I didn't remember being in a different order, but that's because the donghua leaves out a lot and the drama is basically its own story, lowkey.
Anyway, I'm just thoroughly enjoying the OTP that is Wangxian. There were quite a few romantic occurrences that I'd forgotten because they were LEFT OUT BY THE DONGHUA AND DRAMA. Sigh. But also, thank you, Wangxian, for existing.
I didn't feel like doing an ongoing commentary the way I did with Heaven Official's Blessing. My original review for Mo Dao Zu Shi is already fairly detailed.

Никому не следует высказываться, не видя полной картины.
Чудесно. Перевод показался лучше, чем у первого тома "Благословения небожителей", история увлекательная, а главный герой очарователен, пусть и хулиган.
Нравится читать как о том, что происходит, так и разнообразные флэшбэки. Ни разу не стало скучно, опять поглотила книгу в считанные дни, посвящая ей все свободное время.
Все-таки Мосян Тунсю умеет писать интересные новеллы, вот уж не ожидала настолько втянуться в ее книги. Еще, еще и еще!

Justamente el día de hoy liberan el opening japonés y justo hoy termino la primera novela.
Hay tantas cosas que decir, tanto que sentí con el pasar de las páginas y tan solo va comenzando la historia.
Ampliamente les recomiendo está historia, sino les apetece la lectura existe la animación china (sí, china) el live action y el manwha. Hay tantas maneras de disfrutar esta increíble historia y ninguna pierde esa magia.

Je n'ai jamais vraiment lu de livre aussi long, et encore moins de mon plein gré, mais celui possède une grande place dans mon cœur. Moi qui n'étais pas du tout une grande lectrice, je suis désormais addicte à cette saga. Au début c'est compliqué d'entrer dedans avec tout ces prénoms et noms de noblesse mais, à partir des 40 pages, la lecture se fait toute seule et j'y ai passé des heures sans m'en rendre compte. Je recommande TRÈS fortement ce roman fantastique !

Том первый — только начало, бодрое, мрачноватое, но достаточно разбавленное веселыми и в нелепости своей милыми моментами, в которых герои очеловечиваются и обнажаются, подсказывая читателю, что между ними происходит на самом деле, при этом оставляя некоторые важные детали сокрытыми, а вопросы — без ответа (пока). Таковы законы жанра.
Китайский колорит — безусловно, привлекательная черта подобных романов, базис для сотворения фантастического мира, который при этом не кажется таким уж нереальным и далеким: от него веет историей, а исторические нотки соединяются в мелодию, которая вроде бы и диковинная, но становится всё более и более знакомой, чем больше в неё погружаешься.

Todavía recuerdo cuando comencé a leer el genero de los BL, solo por curiosidad. Nadie pensaría que terminaría llegando al Danmei.
La cultura China es muy hermosa, pero siempre la considerada complicada en las series televisadas y quizá de mucha información para mi pobre cerebro, es por eso que cuando vi una recomendación de Mo Dao Zu Shi en YouTube, me negué automáticamente a verlo. Paso muchos meses cuando por puro aburrimiento entre a verlo. No entendía absolutamente nada. Nada de nada y eso me frustro.
La escena resultaba ser cuando Lan Zhan bebe de más y espanta a Wen Ning, para luego Wei WuXian le diga que si los jóvenes lo ven de ese modo, podría estropear su reputación del gran HanGuangjun.
Si cualquiera ve esta escena en su primera vez, igualmente seria desastroso, al no entender de que va la trama. Es por eso que paso otro conjunto de meses, donde después de ver "Spiritpact" buscaba algo parecido, llegando a una recomendación de nuevo de Mo Dao Zu Shi. Algo molesta y resignada, me decidí por ver el Donghua desde el principio a fin.
Quede ¡FASCINADA! y ¡TOTALMENTE ENAMORADA DE LA HISTORIA!❤️😤
Llegue a terminar la Segunda Temporada, donde me llenaba de fondo en toda la historia. Pero, de nuevo me tope con un nuevo impedimento: The Untamed 😒. Era como regresar al inicio. Con mucho miedo, diría demasiado, comencé a verlo.
🤩OTRA VEZ ME ENCANTO, mas incluso que la serie animada. ¡LLORE y sentí que la música junto con la tradición de la antigua china, era hermosa a mas no poder! AME A LAN ZHAN Y WEI YING. Todo en lo que creía y me atemorizaba, se rompió por completo con ellos. Todavía hoy repito los episodios, una y otra vez, y sigo LLORANDO y GRITANDO por dentro, de lo hermoso que es. Incluso comencé a seguir a los autores, viendo los detrás de escena, recolectando covers de las canciones y escuchando teorías locas de ellos.

Tout d’abord, j’ai lu ce livre en LC ce qu’il la rendu encore meilleure !
Alors… Ça fait des années que j’avais le livre dans ma PAL mais j’avais peur de ce que ça pourrait donner, puis, j’avais peur qu’il soit moins bien que la Bénédiction des Cieux (autre titre de l’auteur que j’ai adoré), mais grâce à la LC, je me suis lancé !
J’ai adoré replonger dans l’ambiance des univers de Mo Xiang Tong Xiu ! J’ai tout de suite accroché au personnage de Wei Wuxian qui m’a fait pleurer de rire ! Il est génial dans son genre ! Quant à Lan Wangji… taciturne et piquant, pile le genre de persos que j’adore ! J’ai passé le livre entier à dire « Je suis sûre qu’il l’aime depuis loooooongtemps ! » 😂 Et il est tellement adorable avec ses lapins !

Alors… Ça fait des années que j’avais le livre dans ma PAL mais j’avais peur de ce que ça pourrait donner, puis, j’avais peur qu’il soit moins bien que la Bénédiction des Cieux (autre titre de l’auteur que j’ai adoré), mais grâce à la LC, je me suis lancé !
J’ai adoré replonger dans l’ambiance des univers de Mo Xiang Tong Xiu ! J’ai tout de suite accroché au personnage de Wei Wuxian qui m’a fait pleurer de rire ! Il est génial dans son genre ! Quant à Lan Wangji… taciturne et piquant, pile le genre de persos que j’adore ! J’ai passé le livre entier à dire « Je suis sûre qu’il l’aime depuis loooooongtemps ! » 😂 Et il est tellement adorable avec ses lapins !

A fun first book in the series, Im glad I finally began to read it after hearing about it for YEARS (and seeing sooo many gifsets for it on social media lol).
Like the other MTMX series I’ve read, this is a sloooow burn in which we get plenty of time to get to know the MC, his (future) love interest, and all the side characters that gravitate around them. I was happy to see the first book already includes hints of the upcoming pairing, and just wish the author had included more descriptions of the characters aside from all of them being hot. For instance, it would have been interesting to spend more time describing WWX before and after his resurrection, as the way the flashbacks were written made him seem the same physically.
Anyway, on to book 2!

Intéressant de connaître tous les détails, mais il y en avait beaucoup trop, ce qui m’a parfois perdu et ennuyé, j'ai préféré la magie visuelle du donghua.
