Shadow Vampire #2

Something Hidden

Rate this book
Newly single, newly dead... and just getting started.

After the disastrous trip that ended her life, Claire needs to get her magic and blood-lust under control. And let's be honest, she could stand to rein in the regular ol' lust too. Even so, thanks to her Vampire Disability Fund, life is good. Well, as good as it can be for an un-dead, single-mom.

But then two brothers buy the fixer-upper next door. Never mind that one's a sin waiting to happen and the other is a bit of a jerk, neighbors are bad news for a vampire in training. Plus, Claire can't shake the feeling someone's stalking her and since she hasn't heard from her maker, Bette, or the other members of the Triad since Florida, she's on her own.

Will Claire's innate magic, pearly fangs and biting wit be enough to help her through the incoming storm of trouble? Or will the darkness circling end up being her downfall?

Fans of Laurell K. Hamilton's Anita Blake, Vampire Hunter series or the True Blood, Sookie Stackhouse series, will love this quirky paranormal fantasy complete with mayhem, magic, fangs and freaks. One-click your copy today, and read the entire series exclusively on Amazon.

This book was previously published as Bite Me (Blood Chord #2) in 2015. Freshly edited, it now includes new content-- though the essential plot has not changed. Readers of the original trilogy can pick back up with the fourth book, due Spring 2018.

Born in the Deep South and raised right over the Mason Dixon line, Alex grew up feeling unsure where she belonged. That is, until she met up with a traveling Freak Show one fine day. Now she celebrates the unusual and appreciates how interesting life can be when you (ahem) open yourself to unique situations.

Residing in coastal Virginia, Alex spends her days wrangling words and children, and on occasion a sassy cat (or three), a bull-headed Labrador, or her old, cantankerous horse. Her husband has figured out that toeing the line is easiest in the long run. He’s a smart man.

I was planning to wind down with a book so I could sleep, but this book was too good to put down. Before I knew it I found myself wondering how I got through the whole book in what seemed like no time at all. I looked at the clock to discover it was nine in the morning. That being said if you plan to read this book clear your schedule because this has one thrill after another.

This is the second book in the series and picks up right where book one left off. I loved the first book, and I have to say I definitely loved the second as well because I feel the story flows so beautifully all the way through. More pieces of the story slide in the place leaving me with the need to read the third book as soon as possible.

If you are looking for a book that has vampires and some steamy scenes then this book is for you. I would recommend this book to readers 18 and up.

I voluntarily reviewed an advanced readers copy of this book. I was under no obligation to provide a review.

A must read book!!!

Wow this series keeps getting better with each new book. I am loving it so much that I can't wait to read the next book in the series to find out what is going to happen with Clair and Clive, will they get together and what about Bette and Gregor? Thank you so much Mrs. Owens for letting me read your first book which got me hooked on this series! And I truly can't wait to read any other books that you may write or have already written!

Claire is back! It’s late in the year and she’s still working through coming to terms with her old life and her new life. She left her job, divorced her no good ex-husband and is settling in to life with Morgan has her live-in nanny for her daughter, Quinn. Claire is doing her best to adjust but there are going to be some problems. Her biggest problem turns out to be her feeding habits. She can’t eat regular food anymore, and it’s not like she can just go to a blood bank and walk out with a few bags. She can dream though, right? But Claire is really in for a few surprises, and one is far from pleasant. One day, Claire receives a couple of packages. She’s hesitant to open them, so she puts it off until another time. Then, one evening when she is outside a strange overwhelming hatred makes itself known. Claire has no idea of where it is coming from or even who it is coming from. But whoever it is does not like her at all. Since she knows only one person who could feel this way towards her…she’s left with a short list of zero to who else fits the bill. Claire not only has her immediate feeding problems to figure out, but so much more when she gets a few unexpected surprises. So buckle up and get ready for a fun ride!
Something Hidden by Alex Owens is book two in her Shadow Vampire series. I am happy to say that I was thrilled with book two. Book one, for me, was a bit blasé at times, and was up and down in keeping my interest throughout. Book two is a roller coaster that engaged me from the beginning. Claire is more engaging and interesting as a character. I’m glad to see her working to settle into being a vampire. She’s working to lessen Morgan’s dependence on her. I view Morgan as an asset, but we’ll see what continues to happen between them. I think my favorite parts in this book are Claire’s interactions with her lame ex. She handles the situations so well, and I can’t help but smile wickedly and laugh half the time. This book has quite a bit of humor and a couple of really laugh out loud moments.
This go around there really wasn’t much that I didn’t like about this book. The author really does a great job with this book. I will warn that there are a couple of spelling errors. The author slips and says “desert” instead of “dessert” when describing a wine, but uses the correct spelling the second time around. Also, uses “site” when it should be “sight.” Other than those two small missteps, this book is absolutely flawless and flowing. Now, for those who don’t like cliffhangers…the author ends on one. Yes, it made me howl, but it just means I’m looking forward to the next book in the series.
All in all, I am rating this book 5 out of 5 stars. I absolutely loved this book and am glad that it was better than the first. The author does a fantastic job with the characters in this story. If you enjoyed the first book in this series, grab this book up immediately. But if you didn’t enjoy the first book that much, I recommend you pick this book up. The pace is better, and the characters truly come together and will keep you page turning to the end.

So, we are back for books two of this great series. Claire is back home and learning to adjust to her “new life”. She now has a nanny, Morgan who is a live in to help with Quinn(Claire’s daughter). There are struggles along the way being a single working parent. Her biggest problem is not being able to eat food, and the cravings are something else. Claire is changing and figuring and finding out about this whole new amazing world out there that she is now a part of. It was so fun to go on the ride through it all with Claire on this one.
Another 5 star read, I was right there in the moments, with the magic and mystery that is being introduced to us.
I don’t want to say too much but if you haven’t started this series you really have to now. This book was amazing, I could not put it down. As soon as I was done reading Something Hidden I picked up book 3!!!!

This is book 2 of the Shadow Vampire Series and it was absolutely fantastic and it’s only getting better as it goes along. Claire is a new vampire but she needs to keep her blood lust under control, she gets two guys as new neighbours one is a jerk but the other one she would love to sink her fangs in him and do naughty things as well. Claire needs to grow more of a back bone but I’m sure she will end up being such a kick a$$ in the next book. I had a good laugh with this book and I love that, and there was enough to keep you enthralled in this book. All in all it was a great read and I cant wait to see what happens in the next one. I highly recommend this book it’s definitely well worth the read.

This book picks right back up after the last one left you hanging...but in a good way. Claire , her daughter and the stripper turned nanny move out in the middle of nowhere. She slips into town and charms some people just to get the blood she needs. Then her life starts turning a little upside down. She gets mysterious packages in the mail! The violin from Bette who tells her how much She's missed her. She gets another package that she doesn't even open. She hides both of them away. She then meets her new neighbors who are brothers. Even dated one until the younger brother lets her in on the fact that they're werewolves! She runs home only to have Clive show up uninvited and unexpectedly! I'm lying in wait for the third part of this unbelievable set of books!

A transition story

This book felt like a transitional story. Claire is finding her way as a vampire/mother but without guidance she stumbles in the dark and light. Quinn and Morgan seem like hot and cold running faucets in their interaction with Claire. But I have to read the next in the series to find out just what she is and what she is going to do next. Ugh, the triad is still there waiting

If you want a good book that has suspense, comedy, action and a whole lot of fun to read, this is your book!
This is the second book in this series and I could not put it down. Matter of fact, I sat up all night reading it then grabbed the next book in the series and started reading it too.
If you want a good read that has everything you could want in a book and I didn’t even mention the hot love scenes, this is your book.

First let me state, I received an Advance Reader Copy, (ARC), but this in no way influences my review. I always leave an honest review.

I loved this continuing story of Claire' s becoming a vamp from book, Something Chosen. She's trying to be normal, like a mom, friend, neighbor, etc when she isn't. There's a lot going on, & even werewolves. I recommend this read. 5 Thumbs up

This book is full of mayhem and magic. Claire returns home from her trip to Florida, things are not the same. She has changed in more ways than just becoming a vampire. Claire has a lot on her mind. She is not going down without a fight. Claire has divorced her husband. Her life is constantly changing. I cannot wait to read book 3 to see what is happening in Claire’s life.

Editing needed

I’d have given this 4 stars if not for all the times I felt the need to highlight editing mistakes. I’m more patient with these when I read books from kindle unlimited because I’m not paying to read those. Since I purchased this book, I was a little more annoyed by obvious errors.

Pretty good

This book was pretty good, but felt kind of incomplete. Like not a full story with plot and whatever. Still interesting enough to keep going.

Amazing story of a woman dealing with everyday life as a single divorcee with a tween daughter, but with the twist of being turn in to a vampire and having witches powers. It made me laugh, cry, and fall in love with the the characters and their situations. I read the book in one night because I was so drawn in I could not put it down. I had to know what was next.
