North Korea can't reach us with a nuke. But ... what if they can?
A nuclear warhead detonated at 300 miles above the center of the United States would effectively take out the entire electrical grid and infrastructure of the forty-eight contiguous states. Most people don't think this is a possibility. But what if it is? What if a country like North Korea actually has the capability to do this but has led us to believe they don't? What if they had acquired stealth technology that would let them launch a missile that we didn't know about until it was too late to stop it?
Carly Marshall is a twenty-first-century single mom. She works hard and lives modern. Take-out food, the latest technology, and all the modern conveniences of the time make up her life. She doesn't have to worry about feeding her family. She doesn't think twice about water coming out of the faucets. She's on the path to advancement at her firm. Life can't get much better. But what if it could get worse?
Check out Book 1 in the Perilous Miles series by P.A. Glaspy. Readers are saying it's better than her first series. Find out for yourself!
A start to another great series! I have read many prepper fiction based on fact books, but P.A. Glaspy puts a different spin on them. A woman's perspective. I highly recommend her first series "A Powerless World" starting with " When the Power is Gone". Let's all hope and pray that these stories stay fiction, but it doesn't hurt to prepare. Thanks P.A. for another great read!
An intriguing pre-apocalyptic story with a bit of a twist. As someone who prefers to read about average people in survival stories, or at least relatable characters as opposed to the preppers with nearly endless supplies of everything plus the added benefit of having been in the military or being a human superhero this book was a refreshing change. In my opinion those truly prepared with a great shelter, a seemingly endless supply of everything, plus the coping skills and adaptability for whatever the situation is unrealistic. Personally I believe that most of those who in real life work towards being prepared for a wide variety of possible worst case scenarios will find themselves still feeling unprepared despite their best efforts. It would definitely be much easier to survive almost anything with virtually unlimited resources, knowledge and those "just right" friends or neighbors who turn out to be unexpected assets. Surviving with a tight budget, no idea of how long one has, or what kinds of supports they might really have seems a lot more realistic which is why this combination of what seems like a typical family combined with one member with foresight gives me hope for a well crafted tale to follow up this well written foundation story.
I understand about trilogy's so that the writers make more money & can expand on the story but it would be very nice if the whole story was written in one book instead of many. This is a good story none the less.
I thoroughly enjoyed this first book in a great new series! The author introduces us to the main characters and fleshes them out with every day scenarios. A single mom raising two teenage boys is sure something I can relate to. I was one of those teenage boys. She is surrounded by a loving family and has excellent communication and interaction with them. And the author also introduces us to the villain who is actually a real world villain. And the threat unfolds. This talented wordcrafter leaves us keenly anticipating the next book in this fine new series.
If you like apocalyptic stories then you have to check out 300 Miles series. I Started reading it and could not put it own until I read the whole thing. Just like all series I cannot wait for the next part to be releases. A must read...it will have you hooked!
I love Carly...single mom working hard for her kids and wonderful family around her. I can’t wait to see where the story is gonna take this family. Oh and not to mention Elliott. Love this guy!!
Wow P.A has once again given us a great read. I hate getting to the end of get books and always on the look out for the next one. Highly recommend and can't wait for book 2 Hurry up spring .
Loved it! Different from most of the apocalyptic books out there - written from a woman's point of view. I can't wait to see how Carly and her family manage to survive. Can't wait for book two!
Very believable characters and situations. Two teenage boys=big grocery bill. Working Mom=eating takeout frequently and shopping online. Can't wait to read the next one in this series.
Ugh! what a place to stop. I wont give anything away but Oh why stop here! Now having to wait til Spring for more, well like they says "Im sure the best is yet to come."
Wow! What a great beginning read of what will, no doubt, be a series! Great characters, great story and very hard to put down. The reader will love the characters that actually "come to life".
This story is awesome!! I can already tell it will become a top notch book series that many will like. I CAN'T wait for the next book!!!!
I loved the other series and was sad when it end so I was so happy to see this one finally out. It did not disappoint. Hooked me right away and ended too soon. Looking forward to the rest of the series and staying awhile with these great characters.
New EMP book tells the story of those totally unprepared for it. The characters are so believable and the storyline with today’s political climate is very believable. My only hope is we never have to face what the characters do. I find it a must read!
This was a great start to a series. The writing is really good and far less errors than many other books in the genre. There is no actual disaster until close to the end but a lot of character development leading up to it. I'm one that has to connect to and like characters to enjoy PA books and this one does that well. I like the mother, her sons, her parents and her father-in-law. I'm invested now and want them to survive what is coming. I hope the next book is out soon!
Loved it! Different from most of the apocalyptic books out there - written from a woman's point of view. I can't wait to see how Carly and her family manage to survive. Can't wait for book two!
300 Miles (Perilous Miles #.5) was a good start on a Dystopian Journey. The primary characters have been divulged and the stage is set, now to see what the journey entails.
I do not generally give give stars to anything as a general rule, but I will violate that rule in this case. It has a very believable story line with good characterization. My only "gripe" is that the middle that delivers the EMP strike supposedly re-enters the atmosphere and loses its stealth coating before exploding. But at the same time, it explodes at 300 miles above Kansas. I do not think the atmosphere goes that high. I think that is about the orbit of the International Space Station. Other than that quibble, I thought this was well written and accurate in the details.
I really like the writing. The characters are ok but kids seem to attentive and knowledge. That said I'll get the next book to see where the story goes if it is cheep. I also would have given it one more star if it was longer.
What a pleasant surprise. Thoroughly enjoyed the book. Looking forward to reading the next book in the series. Living in Tennessee I can relate to the trip from Pigeon Forge to (ugh) Memphis.
The foundation has been set for the following books of this series. The author wisely states that a vast majority of our modern society has no idea of how to survive minus electric and technology. Those with ears should probably heed some which is presented.
