Patricia Ann Kay was born on 7 March 1937 in a small town in northeastern Ohio, USA, where she raised along with three younger sisters. She considers herself a very lucky woman. The family didn’t have a lot of money, but she says that didn’t matter, because what they did have was worth more than money — a happy home. Her parents had a good marriage and they doted on their four daughters. That upbringing is reflected in the stories she writes. As readers all over the world have discovered, her books are filled with warmth and love of family.

Pat has lived in upstate New York, Northern Alabama, Southern California, and Stockholm (Sweden), and since 1969, in Houston, Texas with her husband. She says that no matter where she’s lived, she’s found that people everywhere are the same and want the same things: love and committed relationships. The marriage has three terrific grown children. They currently share their home with two longhaired cats, and a backyard filled with squirrels, birds, and other critters. Her hobbies and other interests include reading, walking for exercise, going to the movies and the theater, swimming, and traveling.

In 1990, Pat sold her first romance novel to Silhouette. Since then, more than four million copies of her novels have been published in eighteen different countries. Today, Patricia Kay, alias Ann Patrick and Trisha Alexander, is an USA Today bestselling author of 50 novels of romance and women's fiction.

It Runs in the Family is the second book in the Rainbow’s End series by Patricia Kay. This is my first book by this author. This is part of my personal challenge to read a paperback off my book shelf per month. I’ve had this book for so many years and I ended up enjoying it so much.

When Zoe Madison was only twenty years old, she had gotten drawn into the exciting life on the road with a rock band, singing back up vocals, and falling for the lead singer, Luke Trainer. When she discovered she was pregnant, she ran, knowing he would never want to raise a child. In truth, their relationship had run it’s course. Now, twenty one years later, her daughter, Emma, is the same age. Emma has asked so many times who her father is but Zoe never told her, thinking that keeping Emma from that life was the right choice. Because now, Luke’s band, Freight Train, was a world wide phenomenon.

Emma has always wanted to know who her father was. Her life with her mom has been a wonderful one. She’s twenty years old and is a gifted singer and pianist, studying classical piano in her junior year at college. But when she randomly runs across an old photo online of her mom and Luke Trainer, the time line works out and she just knows that he is her father. So she takes it upon herself to travel to Los Angeles and introduce herself to her father that never knew she existed.

This is not only a story of the relationship between mother and daughter, but also a story of finally finding a future you never dreamed of, of finding the person you were always meant to be with. Zoe thought she had protected Emma, and given her the future she dreamed of. But maybe those dreams changed. Zoe just didn’t want Emma to make the same mistakes she did all those years ago.

This book turned out to be such a surprise and I was surprisingly invested in these characters lives. This is not only Zoe, Emma and Luke’s story but Sam Welch, Luke’s half brother and manager as well. I fell so in love with him. He had dreams too, and just maybe he is suddenly getting his chance to make those dreams come true.

This was a sweet story and it didn’t take me long at all to read it. The next book in the series is called The Bad Boy.

3 ⭐⭐⭐ - OK decent reads.

So she’d realized from the beginning that Luke was completely and totally self-centered and focused on his music.

But if she had this baby, she’d have to leave the band. She’d have to strike out on her own again, because even if she could swallow her pride and stay, Luke wouldn’t want her there—a constant reminder of something he’d prefer to pretend had never happened.

And just as quickly as the possibility of telling Luke about the pregnancy had entered her head, it left. He wouldn’t be happy about her news. That had been wishful thinking on her part.

A clean break was best. He’d probably have a new girl before the next gig.

Twenty-one years later.

If her mother knew Luke Trainer, why hadn’t she ever mentioned it? Freight Train was one of the most famous rock bands in the world.

Enjoyed this book!

The storyline was typical. Bad boy and girl mess up, but what a twist. The characters are very realistic. I am looking forward to reading more of this author's work.
