It has been months since Miles Stevens, a time traveling CIA agent for the Department of Historic Intervention (DHI), has seen his former partner, Terri King.

Upon returning from his most recent assignment, Miles learns Terri and her new partner, Dr. James Brock, have been transported from 2050 and their offices in Langley, Virginia to thwart a bioterrorist assault on the 2032 Olympic Games in Sydney. A genetically altered chimera virus was used in the devastating September 1st attack, resulting in tens of thousands of deaths. It was never determined who was responsible, but AQIA, a terrorist organization from North Africa, was suspected.

Miles demands to join Terri and is transported to August 18, 2032. Terri is surprisingly cool to Miles’ return, having decided a life with a risk-taking CIA agent may be too stressful. Not giving up on their relationship, Miles gives her time and space.

The strong-willed Brock attempts to lead the investigation from Atlanta and win the support of Terri, but Miles has other plans. He follows his instincts to investigate a reported smallpox outbreak near Moscow, where clues mount and peril rapidly surrounds him.

Death, danger, and diversions lie ahead. Terri is torn between supporting Brock and following Miles to Moscow. With time running out, the CIA trio will need to come together if they are to stop the historic September 1st attack.

An author of mystery/crime novels, D.R. (Donn) Shoultz hails from Delavan, a small town in central Illinois, but has resided in the Southeastern U.S. most of his adult life. Donn and his wife Claudia have recently moved from their longtime residence in the Carolina Mountains to a home atop the Cumberland Plateau in Crossville, Tennessee. Claudia continues to share her considerable editing experience in shaping Donn's novels. In their free time, they both enjoy traveling and hiking nearby wooded trails with their dog, Milo.

Donn began writing fiction more than a decade ago following a sales and marketing career that took him across the world. His early work featured Miles Stevens, a time-traveling CIA agent, sent back from 2050 and his home in Langley, Virginia to intercept historic tragedies already in the history books.

Donn’s recent focus is adding stories to his Mountain Mystery Series. In each Mountain Mystery, tension rises quickly. The mystery (usually a murder) makes an early appearance. Hometown heroes spring into action, searching for clues, often competing with local law enforcement as they move closer and closer to danger. The stories are set in fictitious mountain communities with the Blue Ridge Mountains as a backdrop. Clues are sprinkled throughout with twists keeping readers off balance. These books are great for weekend reads, offering crisp, fast-moving chapters and up-all-night suspense.

If you’re looking for a mystery series with legs, this is it. Your favorite sleuths from the initial stories return in future novels, making them a series within the Mountain Mystery collection of novels.

In order of publication, his books include:

Miles Stevens Series
* Melting Sand
* Cyber One
* Gone Viral

Mountain Mystery Series
* At the River's Edge (Emily Edwards #1)
* Butcher Road (Jack Fowler #1)

* Dark River (Emily Edwards #2)
* Road to Justice (Jack Fowler #2)

Donn's short stories, which he interweaves between writing novels, are an eclectic collection of tales looking at the lives of lovers, schemers, everyday people, and even pets. Each includes a twist and is designed to bring a tear and/or a smile to the reader. His stories have received national contest recognition, including from Writer's Digest magazine. His short story collections include:

This book won me over with concept by combining two of my favorite genres - thriller and sci-fi. I was really impressed that it delivered on both and yet remained cohesive. It had a great cast of characters and a zippy pace. The thrills kept me turning pages while the premise kept me glued to the story. There were even some twists that caught me out, which is always nice. It was my first time reading from the series and I was perfectly able to follow along, so you can safely start the series here without needing any backstory. The story is complete in itself and delivers a satisfying conclusion. Fans of techno thrillers should really enjoy this.

My Thoughts
I stepped out of my usual genre comfort zone to give D.R. Shoultz and his Miles Stevens series a try. I don't know many book lovers who don't have pretty strong preferences regarding what types of books they read. Me, I love a good mystery and/or thriller, but time travel and science fiction, well, not so much. However, the day I read the book description for Gone Viral, the premise appealed to me and it was indeed an enjoyable read.
I found the characters well written, and the story progressed at a good pace. The thought of being able to “travel through time” in the real world would be quite an experience and I think my favorite part of this book was that it opened my eyes to a type of story that I have pretty much ignored. I would definitely suggest that if you like science fiction and action, this would be a book/series worth exploring. If you are like me and don't usually read this type of book, you might be pleasantly surprised if you try it. I know that I was and I will be looking for the author's other books.

This was a great read, I looked forward to picking it up after a long day. It was a great escape. I really enjoyed the writing style. It was tight, the plot moved along at a good pace and there were no long drawn out sections. The characters were interesting, each standing out and bringing something to the story.

One element I had a hard time getting my head around was the time travel bit. I wasn't sure why the author bothered with it as the story could have worked without that feature. However, on the other hand it does set it apart slightly from similar books out there that can all blend together after a while. I liked some of the twists it brought into play, one in particular toward the end that I can't mention without spoilers.

Bottom line, I liked it well enough to give it five stars. I would read another without a doubt. The action thriller elements were solid and reliable. A good read.

I hadn't read the previous Miles Stevens books prior to reading this but it turned out I didn't need to. This is a fun, thrilling read with good characters and it keeps up a good pace throughout. I've always been a time travel fan and this doesn't disappoint. It kept my attention all the way through and I enjoyed it a lot.

In reading all three Miles Stevens book to date I've found a pleasant comfort zone: knowing D.R. Shoultz is a dependable, reliable author who makes sure that his books treat you well. I don't read thrillers much but I like what this author does with them. I'm always a sucker for some time travel too, although in this novel time travel probably wasn't needed... intelligence agents probably discover emerging conspiracies and terrorism all the time, but definitely, hindsight is always easier! In a way I was surprised by how much knowing the future didn't help the three secret agents resolve the case faster with more help from their own spy agencies, as they were always reluctant to notify the authorities. As a point, how does time travel help if the leaders of the spy agencies cannot be told, or would disbelieve you, if you say you're one of their own, from the future? But it certainly helped Miles know where to start looking, and I imagine he wouldn't be able to solve the complex web without this hindsight. Besides, seeing the secret agents struggle makes the book more exciting.

I'm just glad we don't have time travel. I can imagine malicious disrupters going back into time to cause even more damage to world affairs.

Book Review:
This book was a good read. Essentially about the times that we now live in- in REALITY! During the Olympic Games best known as the Death Games held in 2032—the 34th Summer Olympiad where an outbreak of the Smallpox virus killed a lot of people and athletes. It was so dangerous that it wiped out the whole country of Australia. This resulted in a quarantine until the virus could be contained. Two agents were sent back to find who released the virus and resulted in the following tragedy. Unhappy, Miles Stevens requested that he be sent back to work with the two agents. His reasoning twofold- to help in finding the source and to rekindle his romance with his love Terri.
Upon getting there he met with the two agents already there Terri and James Brock. The three set up a plan to find the source of the virus and obtain the antiviral to release it if need be. However, through there ensuing investigation, they also found that there was a plot to release a modified form of the Zika virus at the Sydney Olympic games and do more damage. However, the plans to do that were in trouble as James Brock and another person picked by Miles to help out with the committee to find the source of the virus, turned out to be the persons who helped with the invention of the virus. While one died with his wife by hands of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda of Africa the other one went to release the virus at the Sydney games. They did foil the release but I won’t tell you what happened,
This was an excellent book along with the storyline. Kept me reading to figure out. Some twists that I didn’t expect. I don’t want to spoil it for you but what I hadn’t suspected was that the committee member was involved and the other agent of the Department for Historic Intervention was also involved. I like the fact that then Terri had to scramble to help save herself and her love.
I think that you should enjoy this and want to finish it in one sitting.
I gave this book a rating of 5 stars.

Gone Viral: A Miles Stevens Novel Book 3 is by D.R. Shoultz. This book takes place somewhere between 2020 and 2050. It involves time travel to attempt to stop terrorist attacks using viral epidemics. Those traveling are somewhat like the FBI as well as being doctors interested in the research of viral epidemics.
Miles Stevens has returned from his mission wanting to learn if Terri King had returned, since she had left him two decades ago. The two of them had become an item and he wanted to make sure she was safe. However, he finds she has gone on another mission with another partner. She and Dr. James Brock had gone to the past to determine how and why someone distributed a form of smallpox vaccination to a stadium of people in Australia. They were investigating it from the stealing of the viruses. If it is destroyed, the incident won’t take place. They are working from Atlanta and Miles picks up and takes it from Russia. Who has the virus and why?

Miles Stevens is fast becoming my favourite CIA agent. Not only does he never lose his cool, has great wit and is fast thinking, he always succeeds on impossible missions.
In Gone Viral he teams up again with Terri to travel back in time to 2032 to stop a terrorist attack that takes place during the Olympics. Like previous books in the series, there is never a dull moment. The story twists and turns sending Miles, Terri and another DHI agent across the globe to uncover who is/was behind the release of the deadly virus.
If you like time-travel thrillers then this series is not to be missed.

This book is solid. It has time travel and Sci-Fi. We follow a CIA agent as he works with an Olympic mess. That's my least favorite of things to read about, but the author did a good job. It wasn't dull or boring.

I voluntarily read an advanced readers copy of this book from Net Galley. All opinions expressed are entirely my own and this review is left of my own free will.

First time I have read a Miles Stevens series book. I was not familiar with the characters and their back story but enough information was added in this book for insight. The book was a fast read for me because it held my interest with the storyline. The storyline was plausible in today’s political climate and had enough scientific research description to make it believable. Did not think the time travel aspect was needed to make this a “good read”. It held its own based on characters and plot.

Thanks to Netgalley, the publisher. and the author for allowing me to read and review a digital copy of this book. Gone Viral is a great combination of action, crime and science fiction.
