Netherfield will never be the same. The Netherfield drawing room was full of guests. Mr. Collins had been rattling away at Elizabeth's nerves for over a week regarding her refusal to accept his proposal. She attempted to quietly dissuade him without drawing attention to themselves to no avail.
His persistence was aggravating and his ignoring her refusal exasperated her. As he continued his barrage against her nerves… their conversation became louder and drew the attention of Mr. Darcy. When her last nerve snapped, she told Collins she could not accept him as her heart belonged to another. He refused to believe her and she abruptly did something completely outrageous and scandalous. She then fled the room in tears... with Darcy hard on her heels. Oh, I just love him. This was my first read in 2018 and I knew it wouldn’t be my last. This was cute, cute, cute!! I love it when D & E have a moment to talk… I adore page time with them. Swoon!! Talk about your fan points. The first chapter has replaced the former one-shot that nearly sprained my wrist. Help me!
“We, as women, have this slight flaw. Yes, admitting it, we are flawed with a faultless memory in regards to the good and bad in men… Stored within our memory banks is every loving gesture and sugar-coated word, thoughtful moments, places, arguments, indiscretions, lies all catalogued, timed and dated… The list, for us, is endless… It is not our fault… You give us so much to remember…” –Virginia Alison
1st read: 1-1-18 [4-stars] 2nd read: 3-30-19 3rd read: 8-21-19 still like it 4th read: 2-14-20 It’s Valentine’s Day after all and a good swoon-worthy short is just the thing. 5th read: 3-3-22 love it… needed that romantic gesture. Whew, fan points galore!!! I missed reading this in February [the month of love]. However, it’s good any time you need a romantic lift. I’m moving this to 5 stars instead of 4. This just made me smile and I needed that today. 6th read: 2-2-23: It’s February, y’all. This short one-shot has now been expanded to 16 chapters. What a neat discovery. What a romantic love story. However, it is no longer clean and requires a strong mature rating. Just saying.
Well-written, perfectly constructed short story. Elizabeth is desperate. Mr. Collins has proposed over and over in the past week, but he just won't take No for an answer. Pressure is building from all sides, as Mrs. Bennet has convinced Mr. Bennet to join her in urging Elizabeth to accept. The family is at a social gathering with all the denizens of the Meryton area, yet Mr. Collins tactlessly persists in pressing his suit in public.
What does a white cravat have to do with anything? Read it and find out. It's really short, but it's a lovely mixture of humor, angst and romance.
If you don't finish reading this story with a big grin on your face you are too dour for me. This one off is set in a what-if of a dinner at Netherfield in a universe where Mr. Bingley gives a dinner and Mr & Mrs. Bennet have BOTH agreed to Lizzy's marrying Mr. Collins, although Lizzy has not agreed at all. During a particularly grueling diatribe from the Hunsford Parson Lizzy snaps and kisses Mr. Darcy with a very pleasing outcome.
When Elizabeth does the compromising… Frustrated by the never-ending pressure by Mr Collins to accept his proposal, Elizabeth does the unthinkable and kisses Mr. Darcy in a Netherfield drawing room full of people.
This book is excellent. I found myself screaming a silent “Yes!” when things were often said or done in this story. I enjoyed the frank exchanges throughout the story. With some good editing this book would be publication ready. I’d buy it. I highly recommend this one.
This may have started out as a one-shot, but the writer expanded it to novella length, if not a little longer. He does a fantastic job developing ODC relationship. Elizabeth is a little different here, a little softer, but that does make sense considering what is attempted on her several times.
I was so sad it ended so fast. I wanted so much to see where they would continue when re entering the house. Oh to see Miss Bingley get put in her place. I love those moments. I think I may be a wicked where she is concerned. I did find it a short fun read but deducted a star because I wanted more! Enjoy
In an act of desperation trying to avoid Mr Collins attention in a room of guests, Elizabeth shoves caution to the wind and kisses Darcy! This short story is romantic with all the happy feels :)
Delightfully Fluffy I came into this expecting a one shot short story, but since most of those reviews the author has updated the story and it's much longer. The first chapter is that original one shot and it is definitely something you must read; very cute and original. The rest is delightful and witty, but does veer into syrupy sweet, which the author herself laudably recognizes, yet the fluff is very fetching.
Darcy, Lizzy, and all of the character portrayals charmed me. I enjoyed this authors writing style and dialogue, just be forewarned it is angst light and Darcy is crazy besotted and needs a lot of reassurance. Georgiana gets some depth to her due to a change in circumstance, Mr Bennet & Kitty show growth, and Mrs Bennet is still silly but gets an endearing & indulgent treatment all the same. Although a lot of things improve for our protagonists, they are done in such a way that is gradual, believable and not overwhelming, as some instant JAFF easy fixes are written.
A short story turned into full length. The beginning was interesting although I had to suspend my disbelief in order to enjoy it. I really liked Elizabeth's insights on Darcy's character and the romantic dialogue, but then the 'Elizabeth Gets Attacked' trope was used one time too many, and then she became Super Lizzy, and then I got tired with Cheesey Emo Darcy so I skimmed to the ending. Also I was surprised by Georgiana's plot, she was great. This is unpublished JAFF so I think I'll try another story by this author.
Well written, nicely paced. Lizzy, in front of family and neighbors, plants a kiss on Darcy, effectively compromising herself. It is, of course, for a perfectly good reason. Mr Collins is singularly unpleasant
This apparently started life as a charming, romantic one-shot for which I have given two stars. The author then could not resist adding a further 15 chapters of overheated melodrama. Shame
