This little book surprised me with how much I enjoyed it. I liked that it explained each type of poem and then gave a few examples. I especially loved that Annabelle Lee was included, as that is one of my favorites. This book is perfect for kids trying to get their poetry section of the 40 Book Challenge done!
Summary: This was a great collection of poems with many known poets. There was a separation among different poem types and what they look/sound like.
Evaluation: I liked this book because of its many examples of different poems.
Teaching point: I would teach the different types of poems and read one each day to have students guess the type with reasoning as to why. They could also identify smilies and metaphors through them.
This is a nice collection to teach people the basics about poetry. It includes famous poems, classical ones, humorous ones, and even limericks! A fun collection to read in an hour!
Although I did not use this book for guidance, I wanted to read this poem book to learn all the different types of poems that are written. This book gives you a detailed explanation of the types of poems and also gives you several examples so that you can have a grip of better understanding regarding their explanations. Out of all the poems, I favor the humorous poem, Teevee by Eve Merriam. I'm sure you would understand the reason to why I favor it the most if you read the book! I recommend this book not only to those who need guidance for their original poems but for people who enjoy reading poems and for those who just want to understand more about the types of poems created.
What do you think a poem is? A short story that describes a situation, or a couple of words jumbled together? I personally think that a poem should talk like a story, such as a book called Bilbo's Last Song. In that book, it should lots of imagery like this poem book did too. It also talked about Haikus, which were Japanese short poems. I really enjoyed the book because of its diversity in types, for example, one talking about the sea, while the other talks about the land. I recommend this book for people that want a better foundation in the aspects of poems.

The things that I liked about this book were organization, the illustrations, and the length. The book had different categories of poems, which I thought was really good if you were a beginner to poems because you could learn what each poem looked like. And the illustrations made the book more fun and interesting to read. The length of the book was perfect because I read another book with poems, but it was way too long for me, so it got boring after a while. I think this is a good book to learn what types of poems there are and what they would look like.
Amazing poems and rhymes. This is a good book as it brings great poems that I’ve never would have found right into my hands. Nice simple illustrations that add so much to the poem. This book is very special because it brings the world of poetry into the libraries getting more people exited about poetry. This is a book that is great for all ages I would recommend it especially to young children trying to get a laugh or into poetry. You should read it as it doesn’t take much time and is very entertaining. When I read it it was very entertaining and I think you will be to
Poetry All grades I really liked that this book contained more popular poems. One thing that I really liked is that it categorized them by what kind of poem they were and explained what made up those certain poems. I was thinking that this would be a great book for students getting ideas for poems or for reading some aloud to the students.
A fun collection of poetry that I received as a child. I decided to reread it because why not. I did go into this knowing that it's aimed for kids but it was still rather enjoyable. Obviously for an adult, none of the poems are thought provoking or grand, but they were fun. It's a simple read and reminded me of why I started to fall in love with poetry to begin with.
I liked this book a little bit but not that much because it was a bunch of little stories. This is perfect for people in 5th grade and up. It is like other poetry books because there is different stories. It had a poem about a cat and an owl getting married.
Such a great teaching resource be better if it gave more of a thorough description of these types or even a second example of the concrete poems. Maybe the purpose was to introduce and it is the teachers' responsibility to provide more information.
I liked a few of these poems a lot ("A word is dead" by Emily Dickenson, "Alone" by Maya Angelou, "This is Just to Say" by William Carlos Williams, "I, Too, Sing America" by Langston Hughes, and "The Rose Family" by Robert Frost), but the others were classic yet unmoving.
Walks the reader through the various major poetic forms and provides classic examples of each. Good for middle school or older elementary school students, or anyone who wants a quick and fun introduction to poetry.
This book is just all about a ton of poems and what types of poems. I see it sometimes interesting in some types. I also enjoy some types of poems, some are just flat out weird to me. This book is a good poem book and I know it.
