Although very short, I thought this 1845 travel diary was a fascinating read. Alexander Muir gives us a very interesting insight into what travel could be like in the 1800's. It details his journey from Aberdeen in Scotland to Ottawa in Canada. You don't get the whole trip due to some of his diary entries being lost but you get more than enough for a great insight into Canada at that time and what it was like to cross the Atlantic. I would definitely recommend it to anyone that's interested in this kind of thing.
This just confirms how much I like journals/diaries, especially when they're travelogues.
Also annotated and researched very well. The background, history, and often the fate of the places and people mentioned in the journal are all in the end notes. Anyway, very glad I came across this book in that old second hand bookstore in Toronto next to chinatown. Probably 4.5 stars.
