YouTube For Dummies takes the classic Dummies tact in helping tech novices get a handle on a popular technology that more tech-savvy audiences consider "simple." With so much content on YouTube getting media attention, more first-timers are jumping on the site and they need help. The book also helps the next step audience of users looking to add content to YouTube. Content
I'm glad I read this book in order to affirm that YouTube is not what I was hoping it would be. I was thinking of video publishing a series (Channel?) of videos on the United Nations Sustainability Development Goals (SDGs). However, after reading this book, I realize that YouTube, instead of a resource for educational or informational videos, is really a social network like FaceBook only with videos. The appeal for posting videos on YouTube isn't to impart knowledge (let alone wisdom) but to grow as part of the video community.
I now know why YouTube has the stereotype of being for young people who aren't serious about life. While my disappointment in YouTube is not a reflection of this book, this book made me realize the shortcoming I should expect in YouTube. And I will say that the slapstick humor of this book is reflective of the immaturity of the YouTube communities. I have read several "For Dummies" book and usually enjoy the humor which is embedded in the instructional content. However, this was beyond humor and reminded me of Three Stooges humor.
