I requested an ARC of this book but was in no way influenced to write a review.

Amelia and her foster sister are all alone in this ruthless world. By chance, their journey is disrupted when a time traveler crosses their path during a spectacular but devastating, unscheduled stop. The consequences of witnessing this young man’s arrival threatens their very existence. Amelia is forced to trust this man, and his time travelling companions, in their race across the United States of America, seeking help from the leaders of a powerful time chamber.

The author, Caitlin Mazur, sets up this new science fiction series with an interesting premise; that being, what if the process of time travel is deadlier than any potential benefits? She gives us a raft of new characters, each with agendas of their own, and a well-paced story enabling us to take sides. There are plenty of twists and turns to engage the most avid scifi readers, and an enticing hook leading us into the heart of book two. I look forward to its publication, so that I can discover more exciting technology and the fate of our intrepid characters.

Despite not falling in love with the work immediately, the end of the book was pulse-pounding, and I found myself rapidly turning pages until the very end and grumbling that the sequel wasn’t out yet. The budding romance between Ben and Amelia kept the book interesting, and hints at more complex issues kept me guessing. However, there were a few plot holes, and I felt myself drawn out of the novel occasionally by structural issues. Some of the characters’ behaviors seemed unrealistic and drew me out of the story as well.

For a debut novel, Mazur shows promising talent, and I will plan on reading the rest of the trilogy. I enjoyed the inner-workings of Ben’s mind and how he battles his emotions. I mark this a CONSIDER READING if you enjoy YA time travel stories and slow-burning romances.

Excellent!

Interesting read. Took a turn I hadn’t expected and the characters. Cannot wait to read the next book.
The writer pulls you in right at the beginning, just like any good read.
