Undercover Princess by Lenora Worth is the first book in the contemporary romance Castles of Dallas series. This first book of the series is a modern retelling of Cinderella with the main character, Eleanor Castle, in the role of Cinderella. It seems that the second book will switch the main characters so this one can be read as a standalone.
Eleanor Castle had ran off from her family years before due to her evil stepmother but now she has returned to claim what is hers and to care for her ailing father. Disguised Eleanor has taken the job of head of security at Castle Department Store to get behind the scenes and get evidence of her stepmother's evil doings.
Nico Lamon has returned to Texas to barter a deal with Castle Department Store to help bring his families business, House of Lamon, back from the brink of bankruptcy after losing his father. Nico's plan is to find someone to model his creations including a pair of Valentine shoes he'd designed. Of course Eleanor catches Nico's eye but being undercover the last thing she wants is Nico's attention.
Undercover Princess wasn't a bad story really but I think since one of my top books of 2018 was a Cinderella retelling that I absolutely loved this one just didn't catch my attention anywhere near as much. You can definitely see the Cinderella elements in the story and it's good in it's own way but for me this one will unfortunately probably end up forgettable as it didn't stand out as much to me.
Eleanor Castle, is the heiress, of the iconic Castle Department Store of Texas, returns to claim her right. The prince, Nico, is the owner of a designer shoe's company and looking for a perfect model for the shoes that he himself has designed.
I like how the premise of fitting the shoe is setup in a modern world. And how Cinderella has to disappear at midnight, for reasons altogether different from the classic.
The story is predictable and straightforward. I just felt that Eleanor's disguise was hard to believe. I mean... nevermind.
So this is sort of a modern retelling of Cinderella.
Eleanor Castle, after being away for 14 years, is back at Castle Department store that her family owns, but not as the heiress, she's undercover as head of security. Not only to reclaim what's hers from her evil stepmother but also to save her ailing father. But then there's Nico. A man she once had crush on. A man who, like her, is also trying to save a family's business, and to do that she needs the perfect woman to wear the Valentine's shoes he personally designed and be the spokesperson of their fashion line. The moment he looked at Eleanor, or whatever name she's using, he knew she's "The One".
I think this is too corny for me. Too cheesy. Don't get me wrong I love fairytale retellings, even modern retellings, with some twists. But this one just didn't do it for me. I did like that she was undercover, and that Nico was too eager to get her. But other than that I didn't find anything interesting in the story, and with the character. So just three stars... I didn't really enjoy it or loved it but I don't have much complain either. This was an easy read. :)
I really wanted to like this one as I'm a huge fan of Cinderella and Cinderalla re-tellings. This one, however, fell short in a few areas. The biggest being how I couldn't get around the fact that Eleanor went undercover and deceived everyone including her step-mother. It's not believable and I couldn't get beyond that.
it’s completely insta-love and very over the top about everything in the story but it was still a fun read and overall a pretty cute romance of completely unrealistic and in many ways a bit too over the top.
still, the writing was good and the characters pretty well done and of the story wouldn’t have moved so fast and would have some moments be as reparative or over the top this would have been a fantastic book.
as it is it’s a great read and something for everyone that looks for a fun and cute romance that’s on the shorter site (around 200 pages)

Cute modern Cinderella-type story. It's likeable enough as long as you don't think too hard.
Eleanor Castle has been estranged from the rest of her family since she left for college 12 years ago. How did she pay for her education? What about her daily living expenses? How did she get a job working SECURITY using an assumed name? SO many unexplained questions!!!
I suppose, since this is a quasi-fairy tale, I'm not supposed to wonder. But I do.
The writing's not bad, but the story is frustrating. It starts out strong, but then there are a number of plot points that try to build and then just fizzle out. No "big reveal." There's SO much talk about the Valentine's Day party to come, for example, which ends up being chopped up into a couple of tiny scenes with all the action happening elsewhere.
It's an okay book with a sweet, clean romance. Just don't read it expecting too much.
Ellie goes undercover in her family business after being away for over a decade to see why their store (Castle) is struggling and to find out what is going on with her father who her stepmom cut her off from. Along the way she finds people who cared about her and her father after her mother's death who still care and want to help her. Plus, there's a handsome Italian man who makes shoes and other fashion items who is infatuated with her and wants her to be their spokesperson/model for the new line they are putting into the Castle store. This obviously causes a conflict because she was trying to be under the radar, but it's done in a really fun and clever way.
The Cinderella parallel is strong. She is no longer the shy mouse and she is back for revenge. This is a clean romance with a bit of mystery thrown in.
This was not a surprising book. A retelling of a classic story but not a bad version. Nice descriptions of luxury and indulgence and some nice characters coming through. The main issue I had was it was nothing special. Nothing really engaged me with the main characters enough, the bad wasn't bad enough, the romance wasn't sizzling enough. A bit more of something would have helped but it wasn't terrible and perfectly acceptable as a light holiday read both easy to pick up and easy to put down.
This is a very poor take on the Cinderella fairly tale. The plot moves slowly and the characters have about as much depth as a kid’s swimming pool. Nothing to see here, folks.
Eleanor Castle has returned to Dallas and the department store that she once roamed as a child with her mother and father. After her mother passed away her father married quickly and her step mother used her teen years to drive a wedge between her and her father. Leaving for college and not being home for 14 years she has degrees in criminal science and is now the head of security at the once proud department store that is being destroyed by her step mother. Nico Lamon was born to an Italian father and a Texas mother. His father once top of the line shoe line has fallen on tough times and now after his passing he has step up to take over the company and to hopefully rise it back to the top. Now with an agreement with Castle department store for a shoe promotion they are doing a shoe fitting. The problem is that now women for that evening has been able to fit into the shoe. After all of the people with tickets have been gone Nico asks for the women in red to try on the shoe. Not wanting to but giving in Eleanor gives in, and the shoe fits. What no one knows is that she is working undercover this is her first night and immediately someone announces a robbery of jewels. Off shoe goes like a modern day Cinderella the only difference is that she catches the thief but tells the man who is her second in charge to take the credit and that she will see him tomorrow. Now the rest of the book is her trying to find out about her father, and what type of things her step mother is doing to lower the profits of the store, and Nico working at getting her to go out with him and also enjoying all of the different changes she does each day of her appearance. A good story and that was a quick read. I did like the two main characters very much. I received this book from Netgalley.com I gave it 4 stars. Follow us at www.1rad-readerreviews.com

“Sometimes the heart knows what the head can’t figure out.”
This is the perfect start to a new series filled with lots of glitz and glamour and excitement. I really connected with the characters. This was a well-rounded book with a lot of details. Even the secondary characters had me intrigued. I can’t wait to read their stories. I also liked that the story was set in Dallas and featured a couple familiar landmarks that I could easily visualize while reading.

Wow! What a feel good romance! A modern-day Cinderella story. I absolutely adored and loved this book. It is a great start to the Castles Of Dallas series. Not only was this a beautiful story, but the characters were wonderful. I fell in love with them and I am so glad it is a series, because I want more of them.

Nico was a strong character who had determination and integrity. He was sweet and loving. I love the modern day retelling of classic fairy tales, the subtle differences, the other ways that each author adds twists and turns to a known story always capture my imagination. Undercover Princess is a delicious retelling of the Cinderella tale – with several delightful twists along the way.
Ellie and Nico make a fun, sexy and determined couple. Each with their own agenda, they must find a way to make “them” work, as well as getting their other wishes completed. I had fun with this first story in the Castles of Dallas series, and it certainly was enough to spark my imagination and need to know what is coming next.
This Cinderella is out to get back at the evil step-mother for the wrongs she’s done, and this Prince Charming will be right there alongside all the way – well ,except when he’s working his own magic that is. I liked them, I enjoyed their story, the different twists gave me a chuckle often and I’ll always fall for a true love story. I’d not hesitate to recommend Undercover Princess to any Contemporary Romance reader who loves a good story, likable characters, a secondary character cast you cannot wait to learn more about and a nasty piece of work for the villain. Can’t go wrong with a classic tale with a modern day twist.
*I received an e-ARC of this novel from the publisher via NetGalley. That does not change what I think of this story. It is my choice to leave a review giving my personal opinion about this book.*
A delightful story Undercover Princess by Lenora Worth, book one in her Castles of Dallas series, is reminiscent of a fairy story. Think of Cinderella with the wicked step-mother, step-siblings, and Nico Lamon as the prince trying to fit a pair shoes onto one of the women attending the one-hundredth anniversary of the Castle Store’s opening with a Valentine’s Day gala. Eleanor Castle, aka “Ellie Sheridan”, was in attendance undercover trying to gather evidence against her evil step-mother Caron and return to her rightful place controlling Castle Department Stores. Trying to stay in the background doesn’t work when Ellie is forced to try on the shoes and they fit her, and only her. Ellie was to become the Lamon Lady, spokeswoman for Nico’s Lamon line. This leads to a wonderful and sweet story about forgiving oneself for their past mistakes, finding the perfect love and discovering that alternate paths can still get one towards their goal. Nico and Ellie were sweet together and perfect for each other despite the obstacles they and Caron put in their way. I also enjoyed seeing the step-siblings, Annabelle and Aidan, grown-up and wiser to the ways of their mother.
I loved reading this story. Ms. Worth is an excellent storyteller, keeping me interested in this story so that I had trouble putting it down. I highly recommend this outstanding book to other readers and look forward to the next book in the series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
Ellie is back and ready to take the "kindom" back from non other then her step mother only problem is she has to prove something is amiss and not get caught. Biggest question is who can she trust? Nico will stop at nothing to save his families company but finding the right spokesperson is whats on the agenda when she up and disappears he knows he will stop at nothing to find her I mean how hard can that be right.
I loved this book I loved everything about it, well expect the end..... However that being said I know this is the first book of a series and I am hoping as the books go on there will be more to come from Nico and Ellie. I loved how this relationship was not all wrapped around sex, I found it refreshing. I can honestly say I don't think I read one curse word in this book either making it a good clean fun read. I felt like the author had a way of getting to the heart of the reader. You really feel like you wanted to know where she was going and how it was all going to line up. I really enjoyed the sub characters and I want to know more. I am excited to read this book and more to come. If you are looking for a fun, lighthearted story with a very, very strong female character then grab this book you will not be disappointed. Oh so good
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. Eleanor Castle is the only child of Charles Castle and his late wife Vivian, owners of Castle Department Store. Upon the death of her mother, Eleanor’s father quickly remarried. Caron Castle manipulated Charles into adopting her two children and causing a rift between Eleanor and Charles. Fourteen years later Eleanor returns to right the wrongs that have been done. Using the name Ellie Sheridan, she gains employment as Castle department store’s head of security. Nico Lamon, is seeking to rebuild his family’s legacy, designing elite women’s wear. Partnering with Castle’s to launch his new line he becomes enamoured with the mysterious head of security. With a cleverly designed marketing campaign to uncover the Lamon Lady, he strives to uncover Ellie’s secrets. A modern-day retelling of the classic Cinderella, this light-hearted read sweep us along in a tale of redemption and true love. I look forward to reading the next in the series.
Undercover Princess is the first book in A Castles of Dallas Romance by Lenora Worth. I loved this book, and I will say that I was sad when I read the last words, but they were perfect. Undercover Princess is a modern day Cinderella story. Eleanor “Ellie” had the perfect life until her father remarried, her stepmother was mean. When she could she left home, but not with out the baggage to show for the changes. Now jump forward to the current day. She had gone to school and has returned to home, but she has changed a lot, so she is going undercover to find out the truth of what is going on. But there is one thing that seems to be in her way, the perfect man, Nico. Ellie had a crush when she was younger, but now he is even more crush worthy and she seems to be finding him around every corner. Will Ellie be able to do what she came home to? Or will Nico cause an obstacle she can’t get around?
Nico Lamon is in partnership with Castle department stores and they are having celebration in order to find his Lamon Lady. She needs to be the perfect spokesperson for his line of shoes. Ellie hasn't been home in years but she knows her stepmother is running her father's business in the ground. She goes undercover as head of security in oder to discover what her devious stepmother is up to. She accidentally gets involved in the search for the Lamon lady and Nico insists that she's the winner. Can she discover what's going on in time to save her father's business? Can she discover where her father is being kept since he hasn't been seen in years? Will she and Nico be able to find happiness with all the deception? Wow, can this story get any more convoluted? It is a really intriguing story and I enjoyed every minute. I'm sure you will too.
This cute story is very loosely modeled on the Cinderella fairy tale. Eleanor (Ellie) Castle comes back to work at her family’s flagship store in the guise of the new security head. Before she even starts, she meets Nico Lamon, the new head of Lamon shoes who is trying to bring his company back to it’s onetime glory. Ms. Worth cleverly works the famous shoe scene into the book and Nico finds himself searching for the mysterious Lamon Lady while becoming more intrigued by Ellie in her security guise. Ellie is on a mission of her own that might clash with Nico’s and ruin the relationship they are slowly developing.
This is a nice read with very little spice but a fulfilling romance with a twist of revenge. It appears to be the first in a series and I will definitely read the follow up books.
What an utterly adorably surprising read. I started reading this and got immediate Cinderella vibes - I could tell by the cover that it was going to be something like that but it was so entertaining and the fashion twist was awesome. I can't be the only shoe lover who just drooled at the descriptions in this book - I want to be the Lamon Lady it sounds so wonderful. Points off just for the instaloveyness of it not a HUGE fan of that in books (then again, I'm not a believer in love at first sight, is it real? maybe). There was just the right amount of action too - I liked Ellie's take charge attitude and her job and her whole purpose throughout the whole book, normally it's men that have that drive in books it was SO refreshing to see a woman with a role like that and a man be a bit needy in a book for once! Awesome - thanks Netgalley for the copy I can't wait for book 2 to come out
Very nice clean Romance. Nico Lamon is in partnership with Castle department stores and they are having celebration in order to find his Lamon Lady. Ellie shows up undercover at her family's department store, determined to expose her step-mother's fraud and rescue her father kept ill and hidden in their family mansion.
While scoping out the department store, she gets roped into a PR campaign for a designer shoe label and finds her prince charming. But she must stay undercover! What to do...
What I liked: Nico figured out who Ellie was pretty early. I was glad of that because if it had taken the whole book for something pretty obvious to come out, I might have thrown my tablet across the room...
I'm a sucker for a fairy tale retelling, even though I didn't know that's what this was before starting. Call it morbid curiosity...even when I figured out I wasn't particularly interested in the characters or setting, I had to finish. Because...retelling.
The beloved aging father, the wicked stepmother, the prince, the shoes; see where the story is going? Still Undercover Princess by Lenora Worth is such a fun read. It reads as a stand-alone, but I hope that this is just the beginning with more to come.
The characters include Nico Lamon who has come to Dallas and Eleanor Castle. The undercover spy on Eleanor’s part is a nice plot device that I enjoyed along with the Texas setting. The story is well-written while the characters have a depth in them that fleshes out the Cinderella retelling. I found it just the thing to bring a smile during these cold winter days.
An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley which I voluntarily chose to read and reviewed. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
A modern day Cinderella story, Undercover Princess is a sweet contemporary romance set in Dallas, Texas. This story had lots of promise with Eleanor Castle returning to her family department story chain undercover in a bid to take her rightful place and oust her wicked stepmother. Enter Prince. Charming in the form of Nico Lamon who is, of course, looking for a lady who will fit his Valentine slipper and become the Lamon Lady, spokeswoman for his clothing and footwear line. The story is light and fun but there was a bit too much tell for me and nowhere near enough show. Couple this with dialogue that was wooden at times and a pace that tended to plod at times and I felt just a little bet let down. If you don’t mind your stories being predictable though this might just be the one for you.
