Jordan believes that personal development is a never-ending process of imagining who you want to be, interpreting why you want to be that person, creating a plan to get there, and then implementing that plan in the most enjoyable and fulfilling way possible.

Through his platform Imagitivetation (imagination + interpretation + creativity + implementation), he helps guide people to think differently and make daring changes in their lives. Jordan is trailblazing in the personal development field by using creative storytelling to allow people to gather their own insights from the characters he creates and the stories he shares.

Jordan is a son, grandson, writer, speaker, guide, editor, and soon-to-be therapist. He is a Northwestern and Kellogg School of Management graduate where he studied absolutely nothing to do with writing. He’s a former startup founder, restaurant manager, and soccer goalie. A solopreneur, community leader, podcast host, and 2x TEDx speaker, he is also the #1 bestselling author of Getting COMFY: Your Morning Guide to Daily Happiness and The Journey to Cloud Nine.

This book is great. Coming from someone who doesn't read much - the return I've gotten from reading this book has been awesome. Everyone could use a reminder to take hold of their happiness and focus on themselves a bit, and that's what this book did for me. Unlike a lot of books like this it wasn't preachy or in your face, just some helpful tips on staying mindful instead of going through motions.

Definitely recommend to any and all!

I’m not a morning person. I truly despise getting up in the morning, only motivated by social and personal obligations. I don’t know if Jordan Gross’s advice will turn me into a morning person, but it might at least give me some ways to make my mornings better.

Jordan Gross, unlike many self-help writers, isn’t necessarily an “expert” at getting up in the morning. He’s not a psychologist, he doesn’t use statistics or scientific backing in this book at all. Rather, he uses himself as a guinea pig, going through a series of trials and errors until he figures out what ways to get COMFY work for him. In this book, he encourages you to do the same and gives you some ways to start your own Getting COMFY adventure.

Perhaps my favorite part of this book is Gross’s conversational tone. At times his writing got rambling, mainly in the beginning, but overall his voice is engaging and I was never bored by what I was reading. In fact, I cracked a smile a few times and laughed at others. I found a lot I could relate to in Gross’s experiences, personality, and beliefs. I could definitely see some of myself and my struggles—both in the morning and other parts of my life—in him, and I think a big part of that has to do with the fact that the writing felt as though we were having a regular conversation.

Some of his advice is “same old, same old,” such as the Calmness and Movement sections. However, Gross explains that his advice is an amalgamation of his personal experiences and research he has done through other books and people, so this lack of originality in those parts is negligible. In fact, it’s good that Gross brings some of those up or else I’d wonder if he were just throwing untested material at his readers to seem innovative. After all, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.

Gross’s personal stories, as well as stories of other successful people, helped the 130 pages to fly by and served as very motivational examples for each component of the Getting COMFY morning routine. There were even times when they served as comic relief as well as proved a point, something which I was grateful for; I love a good laugh.

All in all, Gross’s book is great for self-help. He emphasizes personalization, which not a lot of self-help books do unless they’re afraid that they’ll get sued if everyone’s results aren’t exactly the same. His advice is also practical and easy to apply immediately, rather than having to plan something out and implement it slowly. If you’re looking for a way to make your mornings better, I highly recommend this book. Just be warned: you will have to go through some trial-and-error yourself, but that’s half the fun!

I just can't resist these self-help books. I'm sure the reason is why there are so many is one size does not fit all. It's a matter of seeking ideas and techniques that work for any one particular individual. This book is targeted to millennials, a young group (maybe not so young anymore) with the challenges of the distractions of modern society. Based on the young author's experiences and what works for him, he shares some good suggestions focused on getting the morning off to a good start. (COMFY stands for his approach--it's not about snuggling in.) There are other suggestions that I'm sure wouldn't work for me -- his ideas on openness didn't appeal but it may be because I'm more introverted. (Jordan, at the end of my day, I want to get away from people! However, like my cats, I enjoy interaction in small doses.) However, I am supportive of openness to new experiences, ideas, etc. in general. Too much openness, would leave some of us roadkill on the highway of life. Also, not all old people, speak without pretension or truthfully. Some learn life's lessons, but many do not. From reading your book, you've got a great family.

I struggle with mornings. I’m going to turn that around. According to Blinkist, “Mornings don’t have to be the roughest part of the day. By taking on a couple simple habits, you can craft a wake up routine that leaves you confident, collected and prepared to take on any challenge. Start each morning with a few minutes of mindful meditation, throw in some exercise, and build in a little time to pursue a passion that excites you, and the early hours of the day may just become something you look forward to.

Actionable advice:

Try the “lose your phone” challenge!

Getting COMFY is a great system for starting your day right, but it’s easy to get distracted. Force yourself to accomplish all your goals with the “lose your phone” challenge. First, make a list of all you want to do in the morning. Then, stash your phone somewhere out of reach and don’t pick it up again until you’ve crossed every item off the list. You’ll be surprised how much you can get done without the screen time.”

In Getting COMFY, Gross outlines specific and tangible ways for people to get the most out of their day and find more fulfillment in their lives. He offers perspective that is practical and applicable but also leaves room for personalization. Getting COMFY isn’t a typical self-help book. Gross uses humor, modesty, and compassion to connect with readers. He is remarkably introspective and addresses difficult topics like vulnerability, forgiveness, gratitude, empathy, and asking for help. Through personal stories, interviews, and anecdotes, Gross inspires and motivates readers to be the best version of themselves that they can be, beginning with how they get out of bed in the morning. In a culture that is often negative, stressful, and incessant, Gross succeeds in finding serenity, purpose, and vitality.

Applying these principals WILL Improve your life!!!

I truly enjoyed reading this book. Jordan took a risk and became quite transparent with his readers. The result is a book that catches your attention and leads you forward page by page to the possibility of living your life far better than you were before reading this book.
The principles he teaches are easily adapted to any belief system.
If you want to grow and have more fun, then read this book and apply it to your own life.

That was just the author telling what worked for him from his personal experience. Plus, there is no originality, everyone knows everything he talks about.

Please don't create excuses for yourself to "write a book". Being a coach does not entitle anybody to write a personal development book. If it really taught something, okay. This was pointless.

There's nothing new, nothing you already don't know. Don't waste your time.

Like talking to a friend

Jordan has managed to write a self help book that feels more like having a conversation with a good friend rather than work. The COMFY morning routine is flexible, so that anyone can do it and feel better. Thanks so much Jordan for being vulnerable and sharing so much of yourself in this!
