I enjoyed this book but it was filled with unnecessary angst! I get Trough’s reason for the decisions he made regarding him and Syx but I feel like he didn’t give her a say in the matter. A lot of time was wasted when it didn’t need to be. Also I enjoyed Sevyn more as a background character. Not completely sure she needed her own storyline. Welp let’s wrap this thing up.
This book expands on the love stories of two creative sisters Syx and Sevyn. Syx is a new dress designer that got her push from her estranged lover Trough, who happens to be rich with a lot of industry connections. Sevyn is a free lance writer that also blogs. Sevyn is in love with Trough's cousin Ace who happens to also be estranged. This story basically documents them both finding their way back to each other. I was unsure if I liked Trough and it's a resounding NO. It's not a requirement for me to like characters to enjoy the story, but I wanted more from this Alpha. He was clearly older than Syx, and I felt like he tried to use that against her. How you ghosting someone for months, soiling your royal oats with every plastic barbie you can find but don't expect her to move on.... It was giving hypocrisy. Then when they finally reunite and communicate, it was anticlimactic for me and I felt Trough's reasoning was lame 🤷🏾♀️Ace was more likable, and he wasn't moving like he had no sense during their time apart. I also appreciated his effort when he returned in Sevyn's life.
I am definitely a Big fan of Grey, but I wasn't a big fan of this book. The two novelettes prior to this I think could have been a part of this book to make a full novel. Overall, my biggest issue was the editing. There were misspelled words, words used incorrectly, and I had to reread some sentences to figure out what she was trying to convey. Enjoyed the concept of the story, but it lacked execution.
I enjoyed this book. I understand what Trough was trying to do to protect everyone but he could have handled it differently. I liked that Seven got her own storyline to give her perspective. Glad everything worked out for the sisters.
Series 4.5⭐️ and 2.5🌶️ - “Syx and the City” 6 novellas and 1 book
It’s Christmas and you’re headed to NYC to visit your sister, however, you catch your boss in a compromising position with a man who is not her husband. And by New Years, you might know what her husband is like in bed. 🫣😬
Syx is a travel assistant for Amiyah Mallard, world-renowned vocalist. However, she’s also an artist who not only paints, but designs and makes her own clothes, specifically formalwear.
Trough Mallard, Amiyah’s famous record producer husband, wanted us to believe he was grumpy, and he was, but only because he couldn’t have who/what he wanted. Syx. How would that look? Scandalous. A chance to fly her to NYC on his private jet during bad weather turned into a whirlwind for these two.
Syx is definitely one of my favorite FMCs from Grey. The guilt she felt in certain situations was real. The feeling of being abandoned by the one you care about and love, felt genuine. But Trough was a married man and I appreciated that they were mature enough to know what they wanted from each other, just couldn’t be. Syx didn’t let that stop her from pursuing her dreams and Trough didn’t let it stop him from saying her name in the right rooms to help her dreams, even if he couldn’t have her heart. 🤎
I also loved that we were here to witness the love story between Syx’s sister Sevyn and her love Ace. I definitely cried. 🥺 The relationship between the sisters was comforting and needed with such an emotional story.
I was introduced to Grey’s work through her novellas a few years ago and I highly recommend them because she knows how to tell a complete, heart grabbing story in a short amount of time. This series is one I’ll definitely put on my shelf. 🤎 ✨Forbidden Love ✨Cheating (justified?🤔) ✨Close Knit Families
If these authors don't stop with these novellas!!!😁😁😁 Now that that's outta the way, Grey Huffington is a treasure. Her style of writing, her descriptive phrasing, is so different, but once you crack the code, you'll love it for its uniqueness. Couple that with A plus storytelling and it's easy to discern why I consider her as one of my favorite authors out there.
From beginning to end this book held me in a trance! There was not one point where i did not want to continue this book! Grey has quickly become one of my favorites! #BingeRead
I read all 3 "books" (the first 2 are so short that I'd call them chapters) and I liked the overall storyline but man, did Trough disappoint!!!!!!!
When I saw mostly 5 stars, I was intrigued nd gave these couples a shot. It was building very nicely and then BAM, you have one of the main characters sell you horse crap like "I love you, it's always been about you, blablabla, I had to break up for your sake too, blablala". How is sleeping with a different woman every week for 4 months during their "break up" an act of love? Huge face palm!!!!!!!!! I mean, couldn't he keep his dick in check for those 4 months because he loved Syx that much?
And Syx was a nice enouhh character but seriously, I loathe weak héroïnes so when she was basically just saying to everything that Trough said and asked, I started disliking her... I skipped many passages of this short 3rd book just to see what the ending would be.
So yeah, evzn though it all started with so much potential, it just crashed in this installment...
3 months has passed since the sudden breakup between Syx and Trough and Ace not reaching out or responding back to Sevyn. Syx business has taken off and she still missing Trough and seeing that he seems to have a woman on his arm. Syx focuses on her business until she meets a man that has peeked her interest, when Trough finds out, he comes back staking his claim. They spend a night together, but than Syx finds out about his lady friend and leaves him. Ace finally decided that all he wanted was Sevyn and he wasnt going to give up until she was his again. Ace sent gifts, apologies and asked for forgiveness and Sevyn gave him another try because he proved that he was serious. To make a long story short, the couples were reunited and received their HEA. All in all, this was a great ending to the stories of Syx and Sevyn. They fell in love, got hurt, got over it a little, but got their men at the end.
“Syx Thirty Sevyn” book three of the Sutuationship series was awful for numerous reasons. Foremost, it’s exhausting reading and deciphering through all of the punctuation, grammatical and spelling errors. Thereafter, I despise how Ms. Huffington frequently inserts multiple pages from a previous book in this series (does GH not think these pages aren’t familiar to readers….duah⁉️), the duplicate pages are out of context. Finally, I loath both Trough & Ace! Accomplices in a scheme these simpletons devised to evade alimony, scrutiny and or publicity could have been resolved with attorneys. For a nominal fee aka retainer, produce a preexisting prenuptial agreement, a paternity test, medical records, private investigator & a court order. Consequently, the former Mrs Mallard would have been compelled to concede defeat and all outside of the public’s purview. 🤷🏾♀️
Honestly, I just feel like this is drawn out for no reason there’s no reason Trough couldn’t have just told her what was going on. There was no need to protect her in that manner when you could just open up your mouth and explain why you were making the moves that you were making , you let that girl sit up there be heartbroken for months for no reason at all. When you could have just opened your mouth. also think that there’s too much sex zero conversations and then they’ll have sex. I haven’t spoken to you in months you come say three words to me and then put your hand in my pants and I’m supposed to just be like “all right cool we’ve made up everything is good” no! The lack of communication blew me. I’m also not a super fan of sevyn and ace. I think their storyline was unnecessary.
I really wanted to like this story/book, but it just didn’t do it for me. I don’t care for this author’s writing style. Many scenarios in this book were a tad bit unrealistic, in my opinion. I felt no attachment to the characters or their love/relationship. Nothing about this book or the novellas invoked any of my emotions. This story was just blah. Not to mention, the incorrect use of commas, misspelled words, and a few other grammatical errors throughout the book.
This series was my first read from this author and unfortunately, based on my experience with this series, I have no desire to read anything more from this author.
Ok now we are talking!!!!! Trough and Ace are living up to the men that Grey Huffington has all of us swooning over. There is nothing sexier than a man righting his wrong doing. Their apologies being just as loud as their mistreatment was. Ace came to his senses and made sure Sevyn knew where he was coming from and how he mishandled her. Don’t worry Syx was about to get her life but too but Trough was a hater and wouldn’t let her be great t the thought that she was moving on. Syx tried her hardest to stand her ground but baby that man had her like puffy in his hands and he knew it. Because that door scene 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥. I hope like hell we see the love story take place from her on out.
I'm soooo damn happy these couples got it together. Syx & Sevyn did right by making them suffer tho. Men are dumb. They never know what they have til it's gone. Trough Trough Trough..... That ending. Whewwww 😅 that was magical. I love Trough for doing that. Show your woman off. Let the world know how much u love her. True love at its finest!
I'm soooo sad this is the end, but Mercy u did it again!!! 🙌🏾🙌🏾 Another one *Dj Khaled voice* 😂😂 another great body of work as usual 👏🏾👏🏾 #UTheBest
Grey, Grey, Grey! This was so so good. Those shorts had me so hot because I wanted more. I finally got it. And it did not disappoint. Trough and Ace are brothers than cousin. I love their relationships. Poor Syx she was only as string as she could be, but she held up good. Sevyn was more of the wild sister, loved her. This was so good. It is funny when you get what you asked for and now you don't want it to end. I want d2 weddings and pitter patter of lil feet. Good read and great job Grey.
Trough and Ace are baes! Like why they have to thug them like that (boosie reference) Trough and his sophisticated complex thinking to make sure that the woman he loved best never had to hurt behind his mess was everything. He knew what to say when to say it and how to say of to get things done. Ace... Lawd Ace falling in love for the first time was swoon worthy. Like I could feel his love fall off the pages. Like I don't want to be selfish but I'm selfishly asking for more . 5 star read for sure
While this book was great, I feel duped. It’s like reading Chest to Chest from Mercy B. Now I’m not sure if they are the same person or if the editor didn’t catch the plagiarism that took place but the same words and actions that are used by ace to describe syvn are verbatim the same used in Chest to Chest. Love scenes, verb-age. All a whole different book by a different author. It wouldn’t be so bad but Grey basically plugs Mercy B’s Chest to Chest in the second installment of syx in the city asking to be caught. I was such a big fan. Not any more.
This story of love is a very interesting one. What a rollercoaster ride. I mean you fall in love with your wife's assistant, Come On! Well, you know what some say you can't help who you fall in love with. I guess that's the case for Syx and Trough but in Sevyn and Ase case I really feel if Ase didn't help his cousin Trough out Sevyn and Ase would've been okay. I just hope the sisters relationship will be resolved. All in all I'm happy that everyone is back in stride again with this Love Thing. Great Read!👍 ReneeG
Yassssss I love me some Trough and Syx. I understood why he did what he did I just wish he was able to tell her everything so they wouldn't have gone through all the hard ache and pain. But at the end of the day it was all worth it. Ace and Sevyn were so made for each other and the love they shared was priceless. This was a great read and I enjoyed every minute of it.
I really and truly wanted to enjoy this book, but I couldn’t get into it. It was confusing in places because it seemed like auto correct went to work on sentences with the wrong words, and what was trying to be said wasn’t clearly conveyed.
It should have gone through a longer process during editing. I spent too much time re-reading paragraphs and reading between the lines.
I still adored the characters but the errors interrupted the pacing and flow of the story.
I really enjoyed this story, it seemed like she lived in a thesaurus and was tryna reach a certain word count while writing it lol. Sometimes the words/phrases used were clunky and didn’t make sense, but I was able to use context clues to figure out her meaning. I know this is one of her earlier books though, and she’s definitely grown as an author. Can’t wait to read more of Syx and Sevyn’s adventures!
Starting book three, I was hopeful and I was definitely intrigued in the beginning, but I was left disappointed in the end. It just wasn’t holding my attention the way I thought it would and I found myself skimming through certain chapters. If it weren’t for Sevyn and Ace I might have DNF’d. As far as Trough, I’m just not a fan of his. Was hoping Syx would drop him and we’d get more of Trey.
The dynamics between Syx & Trough and Sevyn & Ace are truly captivating. The lengths to which Ace and Trough go in an effort to shield them from scandal speaks volumes about their honor, yet it's the undeniable strength of their love that ultimately prevails, making it impossible to maintain such protections forever. The portrayal of love ran so deep and powerful. Definitely a good read.
Love, love, loved the dynamics between these two couples. The spin on the names and the interaction of both the sisters and the cousins. Family over everything as it should be. One irritating annoyance, spelling and grammar distracts from the read. For example, in various sentences the word idea replaces ideal, or appealing is replaced with appalling. It seems to be a pattern is most Grey's books. Perhaps the publisher should review more efficiently.
This was definitely a good!!!…The fact that Trough ex wife Ana her new beau thought to try and drag him down so that he would be responsible for taking care of their baby is CRAZY!!!… Sevyn is definitely the sister that will ride with her ppl and I’m so happy for her and Syx!!!… I can’t wait to see what is to come for these couples because so far that have me smiling and excited for them!!!…
A title with significance to the character Sevyn. We all have our own assumptions of the reasons people do what they do. Never really stepping back out of the situation to look at it from their point of view. Ace and Trough were both smart business men. They did what had to be done in order to protect their finances and the women in their lives. We've heard of the old saying distance makes the heart grow fonder. That's exactly what happened for these two men.
The story is unfolding in this book you see more of ace and sevyn. Heartbreak, love and surprises. I wasn’t feeling sevyn being mad at syx like ace told her that was selfish but she didn’t drag it out so that was good. I honestly was hoping to see what became of trough’s ex wife gold digging self but we have to more books to go who knows how the story may unfold but I’m along for the ride and enjoying it.
Loved it. That Trough is something else lol.. the way he took control in that hall way was boss ish. Glad he didn't lose her to ol boy. It's good Sevyn and Ace got their happy ending too.. I have a feeling the crew will be back along with a certain ex-wife too.
I am so in love with a Trough and Syx. Trough is the true meaning of an exceptional man. Even though he broke Syx’ heart, he went out of his way to prove his love to her. Although Trough is the man, Ace is giving him a run for his money. Grey has captured my heart with this book and I hope that she will be giving us more of both of these great couples!
Ace and Trough..Trough and Ace, beautiful ending for Syx and Sevyn. I was worried for a minute for Trough because Trey!??! I'll take him. Syx and Sevyn were regular women with extraordinary talents. The lengths the guys went through to ensure that the ladies were taken care of, no matter what, were admirable. Now about Trey....
