Evolution's Blunders, Frauds and Forgeries

Rate this book

This book is extremely interesting and exposes the dogmas of evolutionists. Each chapter is an interesting case of scientific fraud, some of which are well known, that are largely ignored by those in the "in" crowd of "science". The final chapter, which details why fraud is rampant in the field of science, is particularly enlightening. Like all fields, science is victim to the limitations of man, despite being propped up as the final arbiter of truth and, for many, a replacement for religion.

I highly recommend this book and think each student beginning a university science degree should get a copy, because as they get into real science, such as that done by structural engineers when testing a new alloy for use in bridges or for aircraft fuselages (where lives are at stake), they will be confronted with the demands for evidence in real science and then will be able to compare that to the kinds of evidence that is dished out by the education system and pop-science media to promote the materialistic origins myth known as the theory of evolution. In addition, all university libraries should get a copy, at least those that consider themselves tolerant and open-minded and who think students have a right to a second opinion on the issue of Origins (rather than being force-fed the establishment view).

About two thirds of the way through this book Bergman examines some rather gut-wrenching material, the experiments of the Stalin-era Soviet biologist, Ilya Ivanov, who in the 1920-30's attempted to use artificial insemination to produce a man-monkey hybrid (thus proving the evolutionary continuity between man and ape). While Ivanov obtained financial support from the Soviet regime, he also found support in the "Capitalist West". In the US, fund-raising was initiated by the American Association for the Advancement of Atheism. In France, the prestigious Pasteur Institute was supportive. Spinning his research to the Soviet regime Ivanov made clear that his goal was explicitly ideological, to undermine belief in Genesis (which states that man was made in God's image) and thusly, "proving" evolution. Unsurprisingly, ethical matters were not much of an issue with these researchers and test subjects were generally NOT told the real purpose of the experiments. And of course, all this was a big flop. No human-ape hybrids were produced... Amongst other things, scientists at that time were not aware that the number of chromosomes in humans and chimpanzee did not match...

Bergman’s book does an excellent job of underscoring how desperate evolutionists are to come up with hard empirical evidence for their theory, which has reduced them to grasping at peripheral, dubious and little understood data to promote their theory and then perpetuate the use of such data many years afterwards, even when a fraud has been clearly uncovered. That evolutionists find themselves grasping at such peripheral, dubious and little understood data to promote their theory is largely due to the fact that the central claim (mineral world to the biosphere with ONLY the involvement of natural laws) of their theory cannot be replicated or refuted. This leads us to a comment made years ago by Karl Popper, an evolutionist and also one of the most influential philosophers of science of the 20th century, who conceded that this theory does not meet his own standards to qualify as a scientific theory (1963: 964):
"There is a difficulty with Darwinism… it is far from clear what we should consider a possible refutation of the theory of natural selection. If, more especially, we accept that statistical definition of fitness which defines fitness by actual survival, then the survival of the fittest becomes tautological and irrefutable."
The frauds and bungled evidence used by evolutionists documented by Bergman of course raise an additional question: How much more evidence currently put forward by evolutionists to promote their theory will eventually be exposed as either fraudulent or irrelevant?

Another case that follows the same pattern that Bergman has documented is the "Junk Gene" concept. In the late 60s, in the early stages of genetic research, scientists gradually became aware of the fact that a high percentage of DNA in most organisms did not appear to be translated into proteins at the moment of reproduction. Evolutionists quickly seized on the propaganda value of this ill-understood phenomenon. Evolutionists quickly began pontificating that such "non-coding genes" were in fact "vestigial genetic relics" of DNA's past evolution, having served a useful purpose in the past perhaps, but now discarded by the evolutionary process. This is basically a bad retread of the bogus vestigial organs argument, but ported into genetics. As always, evolutionist's main concern is scoring propaganda points, not advancing science. But as genetic research advanced, it became obvious that in some contexts, so-called "non-coding DNA" were in fact functional and useful. This fits to a T, the pattern set by the Bathybius haeckeli and Eozoön cases discussed by Bergman in chap. 3. The evolutionary exploitation of the "Junk Gene" idea suggests that not only has the theory of evolution produced bogus concepts, but additionally that straightjacketing the data in evolutionary concepts has actually impeded scientific progress. Examining this matter in the Scientific American, journalist Wayt Gibbs asked the Australian geneticist John Mattick about the implications of the new understanding of "non-coding genes". Mattick responded (in Gibbs 2003: 49):
“I think this will come to be a classic story of orthodoxy derailing objective analysis of facts, in this case for a quarter of a century," Mattick says. "The failure to recognize the full implications of this — particularly the possibility that the intervening noncoding sequences may be transmitting parallel information in the form of RNA molecules — may well go down as one of the biggest mistakes in the history of molecular biology."
Of course no reputable researcher would dare make a direct, explicit link between out-dated prejudices obstructing scientific research and the theory of evolution. Researchers do have their careers to think about... Not too long ago, Adam S. Wilkins, the editor of the prestigious journal BioEssays, inadvertently underscored the primarily ideological role played by evolutionary theory, writing (2000: 1051):
The subject of evolution occupies a special, and paradoxical, place within biology as a whole. While the great majority of biologists would probably agree with Theodosius Dobzhansky's dictum that 'nothing in biology makes sense except in the light of evolution', most can conduct their work quite happily without particular reference to evolutionary ideas. 'Evolution' would appear to be the indispensible unifying idea and, at the same time, a highly superfluous one.
Since the "Junk Gene" concept has finally been recognized as a dud, the evolutionary establishment has now gone into damage control and one now hears talk in pop-science media about “dark DNA”, the new frontier. Yes, and now it is hoped that everyone will quickly forget the bogus "Junk Gene" concept…

Wide and Deep Exposé

The author details the embarrassing history of major and not-so well-known frauds perpetrated to prop-up the failed idea of human evolution.

With each chapter the intellectual veneer of evolution is quickly sanded back to ultimately reveal an empty shell. Examples like Bathybius haeckelii and “Lemuria’s” speechless Pithecantropus alalus are cringeworthy.

The nasty morality behind evolution which drove not just Francis Galton’s eugenics movement, but also Ilya Ivanov’s fertilisation attempt of Congolese women with chimp sperm is also revealed.

Overall, a key book to understand the facts of history disproving the ‘fact’ of evolution.

Excellent review of the the problems involved with the area of evolution as well as too many so called scientific beliefs.

Dr. Bergman’s earlier books on Darwinism have focused primarily on Darwin himself and the disastrous impact his ideas have had on the world. "Evolution’s Blunders, Frauds and Forgeries" examines this pervasive philosophy from a different viewpoint, exploring some of the fakes, failures, falsifications and fictions that have mutilated the history of paleontology and turned countless young people away from their Creator.

Some of these accounts will be familiar to many readers, but the author has provided color and context that make them eye-opening. Others will probably be new to most, including his discussions of a mythical continent where a certain missing link was supposedly born, and truly horrific attempts at human/ape hybridization. In every case, he has done a masterful job of presenting the facts, in the process underscoring the willful ignorance of this increasingly gullible world.

Major embarrassments to paleontology? You bet. But the truth will out; and with this book, Dr. Bergman has given it a tremendous boost.

I still think "Slaughter of the Dissidents" and "Silencing the Darwin Skeptics" are Dr. Bergman's most important works, and everyone should read them both just as soon as possible. But "Evolution's Blunders, Frauds and Forgeries" comes mighty close to being as critically important. Perhaps the three should be sold as a companion set, with the "Blunders" unveiling the lie that has deceived generations, and "Slaughter" and "Silencing" explaining why it looks like all "real" scientists have bought into that lie.

Highly recommended!

My ratings of books on Goodreads are solely a crude ranking of their utility to me, and not an evaluation of literary merit, entertainment value, social importance, humor, insightfulness, scientific accuracy, creative vigor, suspensefulness of plot, depth of characters, vitality of theme, excitement of climax, satisfaction of ending, or any other combination of dimensions of value which we are expected to boil down through some fabulous alchemy into a single digit.
