Tensions are high in this galaxy far, far away for Doctor Aphra. She's got a new master holding her reins…and he's a Triple-threat. Also – Magna Tolvan. Friend or foe?!
Weird stuff. Interesting direction the Aphra/Tolvan thing is taking. Doesn't really feel like Star Wars though. And some bits are wordy, like the writer just enjoys exposition a little too much. Colourful.
So far, this is the absolute worst of any Doctor Aphra comic I have read ... and that's out of about ~25ish or so.
Everything to the left of this seems so well planned and executed, whereas this issue seems to almost be a standalone, feels rushed, and the execution sloppy.
There's a little romance scene, a somewhat interesting droid-monster deal, a party of mercenaries, and murder-bots... you think this would hit hard - but it falls short is just comes across as weak.
My initial reaction was to give this a 1 star, but I am trying to be positive and find the good in an extremely lackluster Doctor Aphra comic, especially compared to the rest.
This was pretty bad, the art might be decent but the writing was awful, especially the dialogue! It felt like every single line was trying to emulate the sarcastic, flippant style of Joss Wheadon, to the point that it was ridiculously over the top and became a chore to read. The story felt muddled and lacked direction, this used to be an enjoyable series but it has managed to already become a parody of itself. It's such a shame as well as we finally have a lesbian character bringing a bit more diversity to the Star Wars universe, unfortunately featuring in a comic that seems to be on the downturn.
I'm pretty split on some of the dialogue in this. At times, it feels like Aphra is emulating Invader Zim the way that she repeats words, like "Looty," to make it seem like everything is normal. I do like Triple Zero wanting his memories though. It's a great motivation for the character.
Enjoying the Tolvan/Aphra flirtation in this arc, but that's about it so far. Triple Zero is entertaining in small doses but I'm starting to burn out on him. The merc team characters are just weird. I do like that we are tying back to Wat Tambor here.
I have really been enjoying this last arc if Aphra and this is getting better and better. Im loving all the underworld over the top characters and the Aphra/Tolvan relationship.
This was a fun story arc. Typical Aphra. Things go haywire, there’s a crazy plan, some humor, and some completely unexpected twists at the end you never saw coming. Always a good time.
