This is another book by Boa that helps prompt us to prayer. Unlike the first volume this was more about spiritual growth than the first volume was. It was great to be able to pray scripture. I liked the first volume better but only because it had more prayers in it. This volume at the half way point just turned to a list of verses by topic instead of the structured prayers like in volume one and the first half of two. Still a strong resource
This was a bit of a different take on a devotional for me. There were no teaching points. Instead, verses from the Bible were split into thematic groups (Attributes of God, Character to Cultivate, etc.) and written as affirmations, in the first person. You read several verses under the theme, then stop to reflect on their meaning and pray. At some points it was very dull; I like getting new information. At other times it was deeply affecting and inspiring. I would recommend this to anyone who wants to strengthen their relationship with God and with others, someone who wants a way to focus their prayer life.
Kenneth Boa hits another home run! Don't ask me how I got volume 2 before volume 1, but this book of prayers and meditations based on various Scripture passages are enlightening, humbling and encouraging. Boa is a writer of accomplished grace, scholarship, and sensitivity to the Spirit. Highly recommended!
Boa, an Anglican, makes praying Scripture easy with minimal prompts and appropriate personalization of the texts. He has furthered my ability to pray, particularly in the department of praying the very words over and again, until the Scriptures find in my heart or mind something to lay hold of, and bring up to the Lord.
I did this book between sets at the gym, and I found it a wonderful way to have my natural "high" from working out aimed at God and increasing myself in gratitude and meditation in normal activities. "Blessed is the man," or so it goes.
This liturgy was fine to point someone struggling to a spiritual routine. It is not deep or to replace biblical studying. It’s a scripture centered daily devotional routine to build spiritual formation in one’s life.
This is a follow up to (Face to Face/Praying the Scriptures for Intimate Worship Book 1). When I got it, I thought it would be an extension, where I can read book 1 for three months and then book 2 for the next three, repeating. After reading it, I think it's more designed to start the morning with book 1 and end the day with book 2.
The first book divided each collection of Scripture reading into 8 parts: adoration, confession, renewal, petition, intercession, affirmation, thanksgiving, and closing prayer. This book has five divisions: The Attributes of God, the Works of God, My Relationship to God, The Character I Want to Cultivate, and My Relationship to Others. My opinion is this book focuses on giving you thoughts to meditate on so you can grow in your Christian life.
I believe the two books have two unique purposes, and I recommend both.
A great book for guided prayers straight from the Bible. Every time I use it, I feel like God is convicting me of some personal struggle. It has 3 months of prayers, 31 days for each month. It also have a section in the end with verses for each personal prayer topic and another section for writing down prayer concerns. You don't have to read it every day, but it is very useful and definitely causes me to hunger for more spiritual growth.
This book is a great way to commit to daily devotion with God. As you pause each day, reflect on God's goodness, how you fit into His works, and how you are shaped and formed by your relationship with God and others, as well as the character traits you need to develop to become a better person.
This is for anyone who desires for true communion with God and to see Him face to face.
Great book of scriptures formatted to pray within any timeframe. Broken down by parts to use as devotional prayer prompts or topically. All for spiritual growth and deeper relationship. Recommend.
9.05.2023 The book is formatted in three month, daily readings, so I read/prayed through it again. Kudos to Kenneth Boa for compiling these daily meditations.
Rich spiritual encouragement page by page. One of the best devotional books I have ever been through. My husband and I have used this as a daily devotion over and over. We have used other books as well but come back to this as our favorite.
