She had a feeling as if she had exited not the usual building situated overground but some deep basement, practically a bomb shelter, where everything was conserved centuries ago. And from the outside the hospital looked no better than from inside – it too resembled something ancient, dug out of the ashes just recently, it seemed that if one would enter the building once again one would find there some motionless plaster casts of people as in Pompeii… Or the statue similar to that of Laocoön but the role of the smothering serpent would be played by the snake of Asclepius and instead of Laocoön and his sons there would be the patients.
