It's a historical novel about Vincent van Gogh and his brother Theo van Gogh...well, mostly we see Theo the art dealer more often in the story than his more famous older brother.
In between the brothers' journey, we also see a Japanese art dealer and his assistant navigating their way through the blossoming Paris and opening doors for the Japanese artifacts, mostly the Ukiyo-e, to gain acceptance among the up-and-coming Paris middle class.
I did some checking and I'm glad to find this Japanese art dealer guy actually exist and he isn't some made up fictional character.
PS: I honestly didn't remember Theo fell ill and died only six months after his brother's death. *sighs*
PSS: I also didn't remember Vincent van Gogh is supposedly one the artists who were influenced by Ukiyo-e the most.
PSSS: I learned from the author's website that she also wrote a novel about the death (or murder mystery?) of van Gogh! I'm excised! (LINK: https://www.amazon.co.jp/gp/product/B...)
so good. one of the books that changed my life and made me change my course to art history. i love how maha tells stories of artists and somehow makes me feel like i know them so well, as friends. was the perfect book that i needed in a rough time.
