Great beginning to the story - kind of reminds me of a talkative Batman 😂😂

This was an interesting take on Belle - By making her a part of a long line of monster hunters, it sets this story up to be different already.

It's set within the Grimm Universe, that as far as I know deals with other supernaturals and well known folklore from the Grimm's fairy tales so this seems to fit in just fine but this issue starts you in the middle of an action scene and leads into some quips and another fight before ending with a cliffhanger so it feels like maybe I missed something or if this was done on purpose to garner attention. The artwork is pretty for sure and I do love that this heroine is definitely more clothed than the norm, reminded me of DC's Batwoman. As usually the first issue to anything, it's to early to see where this is headed so I'll wait and see if this will be another BatB to fall in love with and collect.

Not bad, the artwork is pretty, but I’m missing something here. I hope the other issues get more e into the meat of the story. 3 solid stars.

Belle: Beast Hunter is about a well-endowed female monster hunter from a long line of monster hunters. A series of attacks leave her scrambling to defend herself and those she loves, and trying to solve the mystery behind these incidents so she can put a stop to them. Sounds good, right?

Things I enjoyed about this book:

There are lots of female characters in important roles.
Those women are tough and smart and strong.
They have conversations with each other that aren't just about men.
There didn't appear to be any romance in this story.
The shots of the male monster hunter showed him shirtless, so he was not any more appropriately clad for battle than the women.
I'm sort of curious about what happens next.

Things I did not like about this book:

The first 3/4 of the book felt very repetitive. I didn't feel like the plot really got moving to anything other than monster fighting til the last quarter of the book. Otherwise it seemed to be about Belle getting the snot kicked out of herself and complaining about her life sucking.
The costuming. Aside from a brief section in a jumpsuit, Belle's clothes are offensively sexualized and impractical. If you are fighting vicious fanged/ clawed monsters, would you really leave uncovered access not only to your enormous breasts but also, I dunno, YOUR HEART? IMO she could have melted down those fancy epaulets and made herself a handy breastplate. Besides, ladies wear sports bras for a reason. Breasts, especially large ones, have a habit of flopping around inconveniently when one is active and they are inadequately restrained by like, say, a very low cut shirt. And don't even get me started on the impossible gravity of the strapless costumes. Straps under the armpits don't count.
The anatomy. and the way it was featured. Belle was remarkably well-endowed, which was always on display. And the artist loved to frame that and her butt as the central focus of the scene. Seriously? it's a tense action scene, and you flash to a shot that focuses on her spandex clad rear as she's fighting??
The way many scenes were framed. Not just the butt and boobs shots, but also the fight scenes. They were deadly fights between monster and woman...yet they managed to look sexualized and kinda rapey, like creepy 80s advertisements.
I really didn't get how this was in any way connected to Beauty and the Beast. This is not a retelling. All that I noticed that they had in common was inspiration for the costume and similar coloring.
I did not like this story enough to slog through future editions to find out what happens, so now I guess I won't get closure.

In summary? I was probably not the intended audience for this book. I'm sure there are plenty of fanboys who are, however. I enjoy reading graphic novels with fantasy/ paranormal/ superhero themes, especially ones starring strong females. But this was just super disappointing and unappealing to me. I guess I should be glad that I got this free from Netgalley.

If this sounds like something you'd enjoy more than I did, the publication date is January 15, 2019.

Sorry, This Isn't Working For Me At All

I'm a big fan of the Grimm Universe, and especially like and admire the look and the feel of their entire Alice mythos. I had hoped that these first four issues of "Belle" would capture some of that old magic and style. But, while these four issues were pretty, and had the occasional amusing or clever moments, it was all fairly generic and predictable. There is nothing special, or even distinctive or memorable, about the heroine's look, backstory, personality, or skilz. Often, Belle just monologued and kvetched to kill time or fill space between monster appearances. Oddly, issue four recaps everything and feels like a reboot of what we just read in the first three issues. So, I really appreciated having the opportunity to read these four issues, but this just didn't ring my Bell(e).

NOTE! This review is for all 6 parts, as there isn't a complete volume-version here on Goodreads.

Hoo boy, this was quite a ride! As a whole, these 6 parts are awesomesauce, but I can see why some reviewers who only read the first one thought it was just meh. It takes a little while to get to know the characters and the world as a whole (especially if you're unfamiliar with it in the first place, as I was). But as soon as you get into the story, it's thrilling!

There is so much ass-kicking, a cool female lead, witty dialogue and great artwork. To be recommended!

A very commendable start for this series, with a feisty female monster-basher trying to protect humanity from mythical creatures. Oh, and she's Belle and her male Oracle-type is Candlestick, so we're in some bizarre world of Beauty and the Beast fandom, of a kind. I wouldn't like to say whether or not her zaftig bosom is ideal for a young audience, but the read is a pleasant one, and the design more than competent.

Belle: Beast Hunter #1 (Kindle Edition)
by Dave Franchini
This is an interesting twist on the old story, allowing a new audience into the old french fable in a modern and different way. Belle comes from a line of female beast hunters. Her mother is a famous and infamous hunter, who spares a young child when she saves him from a beast. When she disappears on a mission it changes Belle, and her best friends world. Its a great start.

It feels like a typical Zenescope comic in that it's immediate action, pretty girl kicking ass, weird creatures, sense of danger, and boobs. However, I will say that the fact that Belle is clothed way more than a lot of other heroines is exciting and the story line has me intrigued enough to find out what happens to

It's a fun concept and the ending made me want to read the next one.

There were a few places the art in the action scenes could have been a little clearer. And there were a couple things that seemed more regressive than they needed to be in a fairy tale update. Disney influence? Hard to tell with just the first issue sample.

Great art and action. Kind of a female Batman with monsters--H. P. Lovecraft monsters!

Issues provided by the publisher. Thank You!

This is no princess tale…

When I first was notified of these issues I was extremely interested. It’s a twist on a classic tale, which as you may have guessed, Beauty and the Beast. What really captured my attention was that Belle is from a long line beast hunters. I’m sure there is some other retelling where Belle hunts down the beasts, but in these issues, she hunts way more than that.

There are many layers to the story being told involving characters (some you may recognize from the story), choices of weapons, locations, and even the creatures in which Belle has to fight. I was even shocked when a certain mythology creature showed up.

There isn’t a scene that is dull or boring and every page is filled with action and dialogue. The art and style were also very pleasing to look at and you can even spend some time taking it all in. This was really an entertaining read.
